The much-talked-about humanitarian and co-founder of the organization wishes to empower the youth through her dedicated efforts in mental health education.
The prestigious and world-renowned Diana Award is considered to be one of the highest accolades and respect that is given to a youngster aged between 9-25 for working toward making a positive change through social actions or humanitarian works. Anusha Chowdhury recently earned her name on the list of such celebrated personalities relentlessly doing humanitarian works. She attained this prestigious award for her work through Let’s Talk Mental Health (LTMH), her very own organization, working rigorously for the betterment of people facing mental issues in their daily lives. She was recognized through the award for her passion and her incessant hard work for people in society suffering mental traumas and problems. Her social contributions, from imparting more awareness among people through various campaigns in Bangladesh to even virtual initiatives and campaigns to reach people worldwide, led her towards attaining such prominence in the whole of mental health sector.
Over 1.2 million people have been a part of LTMH through various activities in the last four years. The organization has aided more than 37,000 people, and activities of this organization are ongoing in 7 counties around the world like the Philippines, Dubai, India, Zambia, Spain, Canada, Bangladesh and USA. LTMH works on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-3 which aspires to ensure health and well-being for all.Where mental health is not excluded from this goal. To achieve goal 3 of the SDGs, ample attention to mental health is so essential.
As the Co-founder & President of LTMH, Anusha Chowdhury went all in to get to the grass-root level of the many mental issues and traumas faced by people in society, and this motivated her to come up with various innovative campaigns under her organization like Loneliness and Mental Health, Lighten The Load, Stand up to Stigma, Sparkle of Smile, Suicide Prevention Awareness, Mental Health Wellness for seniors and many more.
Losing someone due to a mental illness triggered her thought of being the help to the helpless and also being the anchor for individuals mentally struggling. Coming up with LTMH meant talking about the stigma around mental health and ensuring to provide professional help to everyone in need while maintaining a safe environment for all.
LTMH operates nationally and internationally, helping youths and the elderly. She envisions having her own mental health podcast/series to increase awareness and end the stigma. She also wants an application that can be accessed on phones for easy reach for professional help and coping techniques.
As the awardee of the Diana Award, she says, “Receiving such a prestigious award, which was established in the memory of Princess Diana, the Princess of Whales, is beyond being surreal. I guess it will take some more time to sink in that I have been honored by this special one, as it is something that goes to people for their social and humanitarian work, and I am proud that my efforts have reached worldwide attention towards mental health. Receiving an award for the same has only strengthened my motives and my quest, even more, to keep doing my best and to keep working for those who need more compassion and empathy.”
