Nearly four years ago, two childhood friends saw an opportunity to do good and turn a profit.
And now, even as sales last year proved the profitability and need, Joseph Levy and Jake Jansheski are proud to continue saving an old-school source of sharing information in the digital age.
Levy and Jansheski restore and repurpose used to slightly used books and place them on the Amazon marketplace to be enjoyed by new readers.
And for the books that are too far damaged to be repaired, they ensure they are properly recycled or placed in their personal libraries.
They provide their service as The Book Guys, a 100 percent Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) business, focusing on used books. And as the market continues an incredible trajectory into a massive online industry, they continue to see growth potential.
Last year they sold over 34,000 books on the Amazon marketplace.
After hitting that milestone, The Book Guys were excited to add to those efforts to ensure knowledge is available in a traditional form for young readers with a donation of $25,000 supporting local community college students in obtaining textbooks.
“Through supporting the continued adoption of the written word into the mainstream, we see positive benefits for everyone,” Levy said. “We’re glad we can help facilitate that by helping the students of 2023 get a key source of learning, books.”
“Literacy is the foundation of all learning and is essential for individuals to access and evaluate information, and books are fundamental to that. When people can read and understand written material, they are better equipped to identify and reject false information, a skill more important than ever as online access to information continues to grow.”
