The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) is preparing to launch an exciting new initiative called “Reach for the Stars,” expanding its commitment to young people through the transformative power of music. The initiative will be developed in collaboration with newly appointed ambassador and member of MISO’s Global Advisory Board, Adesh Sewraz, a Mauritian businessman who will represent the orchestra in Africa and Asia.
The new foundation will initially focus on underprivileged children and youth in Miami and throughout the state of Florida. Its purpose is to provide young people with greater opportunities to build a better future through access to music, education, mentorship, and the cultural experiences that an organization such as MISO can provide. The initiative reflects the orchestra’s belief that music can play an important role in inspiring young people and helping them recognize their potential.
For MISO, “Reach for the Stars” represents an expansion of work that is already underway. The orchestra has an established youth program, but the new initiative is intended to take that commitment to another level by creating additional opportunities for children and young people who may not otherwise have access to them.
Maestro Eduardo Marturet stated, “We already have a youth program in place, but this new initiative takes our commitment to Miami’s youth to a whole new level.”
That commitment places young people at the center of the initiative. Through the foundation, MISO seeks to create an environment where children can experience the power of music while developing confidence, creativity, discipline, and a broader appreciation for the arts. Adesh Sewraz will serve as an ambassador for the orchestra in Africa and Asia while contributing to the work of its Global Advisory Board. Ambassador Carolina Herrera, a member of MISO’s Global Advisory Board, expressed the broader significance of the initiative, stating, “This is an extraordinary opportunity for MISO to expand its reach and gain greater global recognition.”
