Over the years, several artists have used music as a universal communication tool, breaking the cultural and physical barriers to convey deep emotions of love, hope, and dreams to their listeners. As one of those artists fostering human relationships through music, Zebby “James Zero” continues to redefine music’s boundaries by giving a voice to the voiceless.
Hailing from Pennsylvania, James Zero is a 23-year-old alternative singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and the owner of the newly found alternative-rock label Anything But Kountry. Growing up in the small town of Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, known for its historic railroad tunnels, James was exposed to different genres of music. He spent his formative years learning multiple musical instruments under classical teaching. Then, to deepen his knowledge and musical prowess, he spent over a decade under the tutelage of his best friend Devn LeComte, who passed away in 2015, learning music production, and soon began recording electronic music as a producer and engineer.
An old, creative soul dedicated to learning in every phase of his life and career, James carries on his best friend’s legacy and teachings by making songs centered around relationships, love, and loss. The raw and passionate yet sincere emotion that can be heard from James Zero’s music has endeared him to music lovers worldwide. As a result, he has collaborated and received support from several international artists. He is currently working to establish a signature sound, offering a truly unique combination of alternative, indie, blues, and good, old-fashioned rock.
To pay tribute and unravel the mysterious death of his best friend and music mentor, Devn LeComte, James released a hip-hop song via YouTube titled “Designated Hitter/Sidewalk Stains.” The song was infused with a deep sense of love and loss, garnered over 20,000 streams in the first three months of release, and was even featured on popular Pennsylvanian news network WTAJ-TV.
He has since continued to work hard, creating sounds that reflect his authenticity and credence to his lyrical ability. His newest album and sophomore release, Oceans (& Other Bodies of Water), was written during the COVID-19 quarantine of 2020-2021 and released on August 3, 2021. The songs featured on the album, all of which revolve around a Christian-gospel theme, collectively circle a feeling of oceanic and maritime events. The album can now be streamed on all major platforms, including YouTube and SoundCloud.Â
A truly independent artist, James Zero is 100% self-funded and solely records, produces, mixes, and masters own songs while playing musical instruments such as guitar, bass, keys, brass instruments, and drums. His work ethic has earned him the title “The Hardest Working Musician in Pennsylvania.”
Singing about love, loss, and pain, James makes music for anyone who enjoys music, connecting with listeners to share their thoughts and feelings through music.
“My music speaks for itself to people that are hurting, and my songs are dedicated to anyone that’s ever lost a friend, and I think that’s something that resonates with almost anyone,” he shared.Â
James Zero hopes to grow his fanbase of music lovers that resonates with his sound and lyrics in the coming years. In addition, he wants to grow his brand and record label Anything But Kountry by helping other Pennsylvanian artists promote their music.Â
