Mijung Choo Challenging the Notions of Social Media Influencing

Nowadays, social media influence has been reduced by the far majority of personalities to a commercial activity. Influencers view their social media platforms through the eyes of monetizing power and advertising spaces. But one social media personality and fashion thought leader, Mijung Choo, is out to challenge those notions by using her platform for a more altruistic goal: to empower women everywhere and inspire them to succeed.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, on August 15, 1969, Mijung Choo was born into a family who set a good foundation for her future. She took up Korean Literature in university and proceeded to work as a flight attendant in Korean Air for a few years. After that stint, Choo left her first profession to pursue her passion for teaching, a career she devoted twenty-five years to as a public school teacher. While working in education, she would marry late to a loving husband who worked as a bank executive. Together Mijung and her husband have one loving son, whom the influencer has devoted much of her time to.

Mijung Choo discovered social media influence not too long ago and fell in love with it. It started first as a hobby, but her following would grow through time, and she would start providing valuable content on fashion, lifestyle, and beauty to thousands of followers. Around the same time, she would start working as the vice president for the Korea Beauty Association, an organization committed to pushing forward beauty influencing and thought leadership.

One of Choo’s most notable milestones was joining the Mrs. Globe Pageant-Classique for the 45-year-old or older category last June 26, 2021. She went on to win first place in the competition, becoming the first Korean ever to take home the grand prize in the history of the whole club. Her entry into Mrs. Globe wasn’t her first stint in beauty pageants. She had joined a Korean contest in the past but would only bag second place. Her second attempt would be her crown-winning moment, proving to many women that perseverance pays off. She hopes that her story would inspire women who miss the mark to keep trying until they reach their goals, no matter how late the opportunity might seem.

Today, Mijung Choo has judged more than ten contests and uses her platform to inspire women to believe in themselves. But unlike most influencers, social media influencing remains to be a mission for Choo. “I try things that other mothers don’t try and experience new things to boost other women’s confidence by setting an example,” shares Mijung. “The Mrs. Globe Pageant was just the beginning. I will continue to challenge myself to be a good influence to other women.”

Mijung Choo hopes to be a role model for others, especially for middle-aged women who think they have hit their twilight. She also continues to build on her reputation as a thought leader in fashion and lifestyle. The social media influencer and beauty queen also looks forward to using her platform to fight for underprivileged women’s rights through a joint venture with the W.I.N. Foundation, the charity project connected with the Mrs. Globe competition.

On top of all of that, Mijung Choo also continues to play a crucial role in her husband and child’s life by providing them support and love. Learn more about Choo by visiting her Instagram profile.
