How Common Are Motorcycle Accidents (and Fatalities) in the USA?

Motorcyclists are at a higher risk of being injured in traffic accidents than drivers of other vehicles because motorcycles occupy a smaller and less visible area of the road, and riders are more exposed and, therefore, less protected.

That means, sadly, many injuries and deaths involving motorcyclists happen every year. But exactly how common are motorcycle accidents and fatalities in the USA? Let us take a look at the stats to find out.

Common Causes of Motorcycle Accidents in Big Cities
As you might expect, many motorcycle accidents happen in big cities because there is more traffic and more potential hazards.

For instance, in Chicago alone, more than 100 people die in motorcycle collisions or crashes each year. And approximately 160 people die in New York every year due to motorcycle crashes.

Some of the most common causes of those accidents are:

  • Impairment due to alcohol or drugs.
  • Negligence of motorcyclists and other vehicle drivers.
  • Distracted driving.
  • Hazardous weather conditions like snow, heavy rain, and high winds.
  • Road hazards such as poor road conditions and debris on the road.

Other causes of motorcycle accidents include, but are not limited to:

  • Speeding.
  • Impairment due to fatigue.
  • Impairment due to illness or injury.
  • Poor road design and layout.
  • Mechanical failures of vehicles.

If you are involved in a motorcycle accident in a big city like Chicago, New York, or anywhere else, and the accident is not your fault, it is important that you contact a personal injury lawyer after you have received medical attention for your injuries so that you can bring the responsible party to justice and claim the compensation you are entitled to.

You could receive financial compensation to cover the cost of things like medical expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering.

How common are motorcycle accidents and fatalities?
According to the latest figures from the US Department of Transportation, there were 83,000 motorcyclist injuries in 2020.

That means there were 992 injuries per 100,000 registered motorcycles. As for fatalities, the same report shows that there were 5,579 motorcyclist fatalities in 2020, which means there were just over 67 fatalities per 100,000 registered motorcycles.

Exploring the Statistics in More Detail
To explore those stats in more detail, we need to look at the National Safety Council’s analysis of the NHTSA’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System data

The findings show that while motorcycles account for only 3% of all registered vehicles in the US, motorcyclists were involved in a whopping 14% of all road fatalities and 4% of all injuries in 2020.

The report also shows that fatalities among motorcyclists and passengers rose by 11% between 2019 and 2020, and over the last ten years, the number of deaths increased by 20%.

Interestingly, the report also states that motorcyclists who were involved in fatal crashes during 2020 had higher percentages of alcohol impairment than operators of other vehicles.

27% of motorcyclists involved in fatal crashes were impaired by alcohol in 2020, while 23% of passenger car drivers, 19% of light truck drivers, and 3% of truck drivers involved in fatal road accidents were impaired by alcohol.

The Takeaway
While many motorcyclists ride regularly without ever being injured in accidents, as we have seen, many injuries and fatalities do occur every year.

That is due to numerous factors, but it is largely due to the fact that motorcycles are less visible to drivers and are less stable than four-wheeled vehicles.

Furthermore, operating a motorcycle requires the rider to use a different combination of mental and physical skills than drivers of cars and other four-wheeled vehicles.

Motorcyclists and their passengers are also more vulnerable to weather conditions and road conditions than drivers in closed vehicles. Therefore, if you ride a motorcycle, you need to be extra vigilant to reduce your risk of being injured in a road accident.

World Homeless Day: Social Entrepreneur Valerio Zanoli Gives Life to the Documentary “Homeless”

World Homeless Day is observed every year on October 10th to bring awareness to the issues of homelessness and inadequate housing. Homelessness is a global challenge: The United Nations Human Settlements Program estimates that 1.6 billion people live in inadequate housing, and the best available data suggest that more than 100 million people have no housing at all. Over half a million Americans sleep on the streets and in shelters every night. Inequalities are evident among subgroups, and risk is significantly tied to gender, race, and ethnicity. As with so many other areas of American life, historically marginalized groups are more likely to be disadvantaged within housing and homelessness spheres.

Valerio Zanoli is a film director and real estate investor (www.valeriozanoli.com) who has shaped his entire career around the concept of social entrepreneurship. He stated that “right after graduating from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Mom passed away. She was a social worker, and she taught me that giving is better than receiving. Soon, I realized that filmmaking could – and should – be used to make a difference.”

Valerio Zanoli’s latest film, the documentary “Homeless”, is an exploration of the causes and effects of homelessness, and is part of the umbrella project Let’s Make a Difference (www.letsmakeadifference.info). All the movies that Zanoli has recently produced and directed are socially conscious films that talk of important issues (i.e. childhood cancer, bullying, Alzheimer’s), raise funds for charities and hospitals (i.e. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital), and move audiences to action. These projects have featured Academy Award winners, have been distributed all over the world, and have won several awards (including a Social Commitment Award, an Excellence Award, and dozens of film festivals). For instance, Zanoli’s previous film “Not to Forget” talks of Alzheimer’s Disease and caregiving, and stars Karen Grassle and 5 Academy Award winners: Cloris Leachman, Olympia Dukakis, Louis Gossett Jr., Tatum O’Neal, and George Chakiris.

Valerio ZanoliZanoli has debuted the first teaser trailer for his latest film, the documentary “Homeless”, at the 2022 Statewide Conference on Ending Homelessness. The event was hosted by Nevada Homeless Alliance, and included speeches and workshops with representatives from local and national organizations, such as Steve Sisolak (Governor of Nevada), Jason Pu (regional administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development), and Brooke Page (Director of Corporation for Supportive Housing).

The conference took place in a very critical moment in U.S. history: Rent prices are skyrocketing, inflation is the highest in decades, and a new recession is looming. In this context, the documentary “Homeless” provides an honest look at what it’s like to be homeless. Though it was filmed in Southern Nevada, it depicts a situation that affects every metropolitan area in the U.S. and is ever more urgent.

The movie follows the stories of 5 homeless individuals who share how they ended up on the streets, the fears and issues they need to face every day, and what keeps their hope alive. The film has the support of countless organizations, and features interviews with many homeless and housing advocates: Christine Hess (Executive Director of Nevada Housing Coalition), Catrina Grigsby-Thedford (Executive Director of Nevada Homeless Alliance), Chris Petersen (Legal Director of ACLU of Nevada), Donald Whitehead Jr (Executive Director of National Coalition for the Homeless), etc.

DocumentaryThe 2022 Inaugural Statewide Conference on Ending Homelessness was hosted by Nevada Homeless Alliance, whose Executive Director Catrina Grigsby-Thedford stated about Zanoli: “He is what we consider a last-chance landlord: He goes above and beyond to ensure our veterans are not left behind, especially knowing that most of them have bad credit or a criminal record. He doesn’t ask them questions or pass judgement. Instead, he welcomes them with open arms and provides them with a safe and decent place to live. When in the past I was Assistant Coordinator at The Salvation Army Veteran Services, I was introduced to Valerio as a precious resource to help our homeless veterans get the affordable housing they deserve. Over the past few years, Valerio has helped an incredible number of veterans get back on their feet. He has always shown uncommon compassion and has never turned down a veteran in need. […] Having an ally like Valerio on our side is a precious resource and an inspiration. We share a deep desire to change the world around us and impact the future to end homelessness. The chronic lack of fair-priced accommodation in Las Vegas has become even worse with the Covid-19 pandemic. What Valerio Zanoli does is a considerable step in the right direction: He gives homeless and low-income individuals a chance at turning their life around by providing affordable housing and the trust and dignity no one else is willing to give them. The endeavor to end homelessness is destined to succeed if we can support initiatives like Valerio’s and all the kind-hearted people who commit themselves to helping the underserved and proactively act to help others succeed.”

Over the years, Valerio Zanoli has developed numerous initiatives, including the project Helping Vegas (www.helping.vegas), which brings together several landlords, charities, and organizations that operate in Southern Nevada in a collective effort to mitigate the housing crisis. In 2023, he plans to give life to the Homeless Festival, together with Nevada Homeless Alliance, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary of bringing people together to advance solutions to homelessness.

HomelessZanoli and his team are constantly looking for new housing opportunities to help the low-income members of our society. Unfortunately, land and construction costs have reached unprecedented records, making it difficult for real estate investors and developers like Zanoli to increase the number of affordable units on their own. Zanoli has stressed the importance for private and public sectors to cooperate: “If you consider that an individual on supplemental security income [$841] shouldn’t spend more than $250 per month on rent and bills – or 30% of their income – it’s immediately clear that public assistance and innovative solutions are needed now more than ever.”

In his real estate career, Valerio Zanoli was able to acquire and provide affordable units through accurate planning, a wise use of funds and resources, good management, and the creation of a network of charities and individuals with his same passion and goal: “The burning desire to make a difference has been the driving force behind all of this. When I make a movie, I build fictional characters and their stories; in my real estate career, I build affordable units, but, above all, I have the chance to build people up. Their stories are real, and they need to be shared with the world.”

For the past several months, Zanoli has been supervising the renovation of 2 rooming houses, which Clark County Social Service will use to house up to 25 low-income individuals, every night, right in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. Christine Hess, Executive Director of Nevada Housing Coalition, fully supports this project and stated: “To end our affordable housing and homelessness crises, we must consider all opportunities to provide solutions that meet those in need where they are and support their path along the affordable housing spectrum to housing security. The renovation and expansion of these two rooming houses is one example of an alternative solution that can impact multiple lives for years to come in Las Vegas.”

HomelessThe several awards and certificates of appreciation that Valerio Zanoli received from the Governor of Nevada, U.S. Vets, The Salvation Army, and many other homeless and housing organizations are evidence not only of Zanoli’s achievements, but also of the fact that combining a successful business and social commitment is possible. Zanoli is the recipient of the “Lions Pride” award from Lions Clubs International, which is home to 1.4 million members who are dedicated to serving their communities and the world. He stated: “Our motto is very simple: ‘We Serve.’ Most people think that one is supposed to lead from the front or the top, but author John C. Maxwell extensively wrote about ‘leading from the middle.’ We are on a mission to support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally. Leadership is not a position, but an action. It isn’t a pyramid with the leader at the top, but an inverted pyramid with the strength being the point upon which others are built up. If I am not serving you, I am not a leader.”

Valerio Zanoli added: “Unfortunately, fighting homelessness is still a daily commitment, and it is something that we cannot overlook or ignore. Charities like The Salvation Army and agencies like Clark County Social Service are doing an extraordinary job, but this is a social problem that affects all of us, and all of us – as a society – need to come together so we can solve it. … As a famous quote says: There is no ‘us’ and ‘them.’ There is only us, one human family, connected in ways we sometimes forget.”

Additional resources and ways to help are available on the website of the National Coalition for the Homeless (www.nationalhomeless.org), a national network of people who are committed to a single mission: To end and prevent homelessness, while ensuring the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness are met and their civil rights are respected and protected.

Here’s What You Need to Know About Rising Artist Skrilla:

Hailing from Lawrence, Massachusetts, Liam Amparo–professionally known as Skrilla–has been rising to the top of the hip-hop game as an established producer.

His aggressive NY drill and melodic/nostalgic component beats have been grabbing the attention of many artists, landing him placements such as “Have Nots” by Jay Critch and “Bassline” by Jay Gwuapo.

Music is something that is intrinsic to humanity and is often passed down from generation to generation. The same holds for Skrilla, as he considers his family his most significant source of inspiration. His friends and cousins exposed him to various types of music at a young age, which helped him determine his sound.

Skrilla began his musical career in 2017, DJ’ing events and get-togethers. Slowly, however, he realized that he would not only enjoy giving a new twist to some of his favorites but also making his music. So, in 2020, Skrilla began to make beats at FL Studio, using the songs he would spin as the early inspiration for the beats he would later create.

The music industry has always been a place that tests an artist’s patience and passion, as frequently, the stress and competition of the industry make it challenging to avoid burnout. However, Skrilla chose to combat this with an optimistic attitude and a determination to stay away from things that hamper your success. He further adds, “You can’t let people limit your ability and where you’re able to go. You gotta trust the process and, most importantly, God. You gotta build your empire brick by brick and people who aren’t contributing gotta hit the door.”

Skrilla was also inspired by other artists who have already trailblazer a path towards success in the industry. Artists such as Chief Keef, Pop Smoke, Gunna, ABoogie, and Lil Durk showed Skrilla how to make it big in his way.

Since his debut, Skrilla has continued to work on many projects, landing placements with Fivio Foreign, Rowdy Rebel, Don Q, and more. WHAM BAM! NYC In The Roaring Sixties, Fascinating Tales of NYC in The Sixties

Wham Bham is a remarkable memoir written in a way that primarily focuses on the Sixties language, making it all the more interesting. But it doesn’t end there; the book is not for people who tend to get easily offended. The author, Robert Isenberg, has described too much reality and in-depth narration of his life for the readers to enjoy.

Reflecting sexual emancipation deriving from the fifties, the readers discover the rapid social transformations taking place during these vital and revolutionary times. As we speak of revolution, the book also mentions the ongoing advancements in the business world, modifying lifestyles, feminist uprising, and minority rights, to name a few. In addition, the readers experience a deep dive into the intimate side of family dynamics and relationships. Discussion on such significant aspects propels the readers to avoid keeping the book down until they learn about the culture, religion, sex, and the boiling politics in America.

The author, Robert Isenberg, initiates his unbelievably interesting life in NYC. The social changes in the 1960s are worth exploring. They would leave the reader immersed in an enriching experience of a vast part of America. The autobiographical story of a young man in the roaring sixties revolves around an individual on a mission to make a name for himself. Interestingly, readers today can even connect themselves to the countless experiences Issenberg goes through.

Robert Issenberg is nothing less than a witty and smart individual, and his stories of the sixties clearly defined his incredible journey of launching his own roast beef sandwich business. The author, while busy exploring life all on his own and learning quite a lot of versatile experiences, gets fired from a job at a moment when he did not see it coming at all. Clueless as to how to move forward with life, the drastic and intense circumstances do not break his spirit. Liked by countless women, but life decides to give him a fair share of challenges. And he chooses to keep moving consistently with the light of hope in his hands.

The author is as clueless as all of us, and that makes the entire story even more relatable. In an era when everyone was paying massive attention to how to build their future and shape their lives, NYC in the sixties was an exceptional place to live. The character’s stories are not only worth reading, but they will make them laugh out loud as well.

Readers will find the characters making life-long decisions while experiencing difficulties and certain struggles. People’s idiosyncrasies and whacky behavior are bound to make the audience smile. While the author’s life is full of unpredictable events, full of pretty women roaming around, it becomes utterly colorful and pleasant when Issenberg finds the love of his life, Esther, marries and settles.

It is a must-read memoir and shouldn’t be missed, mostly because the sixties era was brimming with the strong energies of freedom and losses and also a perfect time to enjoy life in its truest sense. Every corner had a story to tell and an equally interesting past to uncover.

Apart from his trying to build a successful future, his charisma of not giving up is commendable. There are other certain interesting characters, such as Pat, Sue, Abbie Hoffman, Elaine, and artists, such as the Shirelles. The book also includes a whole chapter about Vietnam War. Robert has made an incredible effort to define the times of the sixties in NYC that will keep the readers engaged and entertained for good. Such a memoir is, beyond any doubt, a piece of art that should pass the eyes of every reader worldwide.

This book follows Belle, our main protagonist, as she goes through different stages of her life, gaining nothing but success. Yet, something holds her back from having it all. The readers’ hearts will break as they will get to know how much hurt Belle still holds in her heart for something that had happened in high school. Flip through the pages of “After All These Years” if you want to get to the end of this!

The way Belle progresses through life is as real as it is magical, which is just what Gayle wanted. Being an avid reader of the romantic genre herself, gayle wanted to try her hand at writing the stories which took up most of the space in her mind.

Gayle Deguzman says about her penchant for creating realistically fueled romantic stories, “I love writing with a passion. And I wanted to show the world all of the ways in which people can fall in love and inspire them to go out and make their own romantic story!”

“After All These Years” is Gayle’s debut into the literary world of heartbreak, longing, and reconciliation. The characters go through a lot of different scenarios in which they feel various emotions that are described with raw expressions that leave the reader rooting for the main couple.

Between newfound friendship and a past lover, the choice becomes more difficult as both are equally as swoon-worthy as the other. The readers will be at the edge of their seats till the end of the book as Belle will struggle between the obvious choice and the right one.

The brilliance of such a solid plot is wholly upon Gayle Deguzman, who is a romantic at heart. She wants the readers to relate to the characters she creates, which makes it possible for her to write them in the most human way possible. Gayle finds romance in every little thing, from nature to a stranger holding the door for you. This has what made “After All These Years” possible after the author spent many sleepless nights dreaming about all the ways people can fall in love.

Gayle Deguzman is an enigma which has been sailing for more than a decade on her 36-foot MacGregor catamaran all by herself with a Chinese Shar Pei dog for company. Her work experience has given her the experience to write about stories that she has spent hours imagining, and once she had started, she could not stop. “After All These Years” and various of Gayle’s work in progress stemmed from just an idea that she birthed into words that could tell the stories to people that she wanted to tell.

Gayle lives on Vancouver Island these days and spends much of her time writing away captivating romantic stories that are far more than just stories because they are not only romantic but thought-provoking and mind-blowing. The author hopes that with her debut novel, “After All These Years,” the readers will get to know the kind of author she is and will ardently look forward to what she has to put out in the recent future!

When Past Sins Come Back To Haunt

In A.D. Logan’s horror-filled thriller book, titled “Stain” one can find themselves in an immersive plot of witchcraft and dramatic suspense.

The story starts with the character name Carolyn inviting people to a grand party to have some fun. But little did they know, it was merely a trap where each individual would have to pay for their past sins. A.D. Logan has written a masterpiece, a novel that fascinatingly explains the unpredictable transformation of a weak person into something mighty. Or one may want to say horrifically monstrous. But Carolyn was not always that hideous and scary. It all starts with a simple woman who has been inflicted with undue behaviour and the unjust circumstances of life. While living an ordinary life, everything turns upside down, gradually and all too sudden.

When Carolyn meets her soulmate, she thinks life will become a bed of roses, to some extent. The thought of life turning into a beautiful journey was a mere thought. And before she knew it, she found herself trapped in a seemingly never-ending cycle of rescuing her loved ones. The oppressive and unjustifiable behaviors of others forced her to turn into a person ready to take everyone’s life without thinking twice. In amidst of being busy taking revenge, her loved ones turned against her trying to put an end to her. While one may think of Carolyn as the absolute villain of the story, the readers will find a shocking twist, realizing that it was her trying to save her family. The plot is not all about avenging the loss but also about the severity a person would go to sacrificing themselves to an almost unlimited extent.

The question, however, remains if she will succeed in saving the lives of her loved ones or destroy everyone in her path. Interestingly Carolyn goes through tremendous ups and downs in her life, a complex challenge at every step, but she never let go of resilience. Bravery and courage were her two significant assets. It makes all the more reason why she was given the tricky and tough task of making a choice between saving or taking lives. The plot thickens when the individuals invited to the party realize her true intentions of Carolyn; she turns into an evil demon and kills every face present in the house. The view is undoubtedly immensely gruesome, and some may find it hard to imagine. However, the novel deeply explains the reasons behind Carolyn’s harsh and ruthless actions. Every chapter of the novel invites the readers into an entirely different plot twist, making it harder to put the book down.

The conversations between the characters and the dark past every individual carries are worth reading about; A large part of the story revolves around the choices people make. And how every choice has a consequence. Each character is equally interesting and plays a significant role in the plot. One cannot just skip through pages to know the end. Carolyn makes it a goal to let go of any guests unless they confess to their actions. But she also believed that none deserved to live. The road to vengeance, deception and revenge can be a hard one. And often, there is no way back. The novel is a treat for those who love reading thrillers, extreme gore, love mystery, supernatural and suspense. Stain offers a lot to its readers, including twisted fantasies and dark imaginations.
