Attorney Galen M. Hair on Building a Business that Puts People First

Business owners build businesses for various reasons, like designing a particular lifestyle or reaching a financial goal. Most of those motivators point back to self-enrichment. But Attorney Galen M. Hair is motivated by something else: a desire to put people first and allow them to experience the rewards as a result.

Galen M. Hair is the founder of Insurance Claim HQ, a firm that seeks to put its policyholders at the forefront of the business. The company serves clients in New Orleans, Louisiana, and many more around the United States, helping people suffering tragic losses due to disasters who do not get fair compensation or coverage.

As an insurance claim and compensation-centric practice, Hair and his firm put a lot of effort into representing people who have received the short end of the stick. But, to Hair and the team, it’s more than just about compensation but fairness and justice. At the core of the business is understanding how people operate and using that to get ahead in every case. “We tend to focus on human behavior,” he shares. “Businesses should monitor human behavior daily, including vendor behavior, consumer behavior, and employee behavior. We always say, ‘row with the disaster, not against it.'”

To Hair and his legal experts, the COVID-19 pandemic was a stark example of how often institutions must adapt to uncertainty. The legal practitioner led his team through the crisis through volatility and change. One way the firm pivoted during the pandemic was to utilize communications technologies to better coordinate with its clients. He does not see the work-from-home and flexible work arrangement trend going away today and for the foreseeable future. Despite that, the company still tries to keep a social and personal touch on its business model, putting people at the forefront of the Insurance Claim HQ’s values and vision.

As a leader in the property insurance space, Hair has now helped over 800 families rebuild their homes, businesses, and lives after tragedies like typhoons, storm surges, floods, and even the recent pandemic. He has become a highly-rated Super Lawyers Rising Star and received the honor of being a part of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100. At the core of his success, he says, is a desire to put clients first. Going beyond a “values statement” has become a commitment engrained into Insurance Claim HQ’s day-to-day operation.

On top of running his practice, Hair regularly holds philanthropic events in the city of New Orleans. His team also eagerly pitches in on the effort. As a result, the firm and its founder take up a hallmark signature as a law practitioner and practice that devotes time and effort to building the community through its legal services and the many ventures they take to improve people’s lives.

To this day, Hair continues to push his team to put clients first. “We teach our team that we are here for our clients,” the Attorney adds. “We want to ensure we never forget the positive impact we can have when working together.” Hair hopes to assist 1,000 clients every month get back into their homes after a tragedy. With the help of his team, Insurance Claim HQ continues to inch toward that goal.

Veronica Figueroa Creates Opportunity In the World of Real Estate

Veronica Figueroa has followed in her mother’s footsteps when it comes to her career by becoming a strong leader. Figueroa is a force in the world of real estate, and she’s taking others with her.

Veronica Figueroa is the Team Lead of the Figueroa Team in Orlando, Florida. She also has many other titles. She’s a real estate coach first and foremost–as that has been her lifelong pursuit. Whatever she ended up doing, she knew she would be teaching and guiding others. She sits on Zillow’s Advisory Board and has been named an Inman Influencer. (Inman 100 “recognizes real estate industry leaders whose ingenuity, strength, conviction, power, and persistence are driving change.”)

If that’s not enough–there’s plenty more, but what is unique about Veronica Figueroa is that like her mother, she creates opportunities for others. Team Fig is made up of over 50 people–with an emphasis on women and people of color. “I am a huge advocate for women in leadership and diversity. I have always gone against the status quo and dared to think differently.” Figueroa said. It’s this mindset that has motivated her to create a real estate team, as it provides an opportunity for others to reach their dreams.

Figueroa isn’t only thinking of her team and business partners–she’s thinking of the people she serves. “I always knew I wanted to make a difference.” Figueroa said. Having a team behind you in the buying and selling process is better than having just one person: “We understand that consumers deserve more than just an agent, they deserve an experience when buying or selling a home that is customized and with the power of a team, consumers receive the very best service.” Figueroa put it simply. Home buying is a life-changing experience and Veronica Figueroa is making a difference in that experience when her clients are properly taken care of.

Veronica Figueroa’s true passion is to inspire others to follow their dreams, so whether she is helping her team members transcend what they thought was impossible or helping everyday people become homeowners, she is fulfilling that passion. Following her true passion is attributed to her ability to be self-aware: “I pride myself in being my most authentic self. I am a strategic visionary always playing offense and [I’m] obsessed with the journey of self-improvement and mastering focus. Since I don’t focus on the competition… I am only focused on myself being my competition.”

Because Veronica Figueroa competes with herself, there is no stopping her. She has plans to write a book–which is already in the works. She’s launching courses for real estate agents and is working on an international growth plan for global agents.

Gifted Singer-Songwriter Aria Jay Shares Inspiring Story of Perseverance and Success

To succeed in any endeavor, merely having skills or talent is not enough. Even the most accomplished people know it takes perseverance and dedication to thrive. In the music industry, one gifted individual is making waves not only for her incredible artistry but also for her admirable work ethic – Aria Jay.

The singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York, ventured into the mainstream music scene in the spring of 2018 with her debut EP Growth, which Cam Outlaw of Whirling Wolf Records produced. In addition, she also released her first music video for the single “He Said.”

Despite being a newcomer, she has quickly won the hearts of listeners and music enthusiasts. The same year, the talented woman was selected as the artist-in-residence at Holyrad Studio in Brooklyn, where she created a visual album for Growth alongside producer and director Janet S. Kim.

Ever committed to honing her craft, Aria tried her hand at producing and engineering in 2019. Since then, she has recorded countless songs in her home studio, including “Secrets.” The creative musician went on to drop numerous hits such as “Show Me the Receipts,” “Wide Awake,” “When the Sun Comes Up,” and her recent release “Cried All on My Own.”

Even though the artist’s solo career is quite new, the young woman is no novice in the music business. In fact, she discovered her passion for music at an early age. She pursued singing at the age of 11, studying under the careful guidance and mentorship of opera master Judy Hages.

However, her journey was not always smooth sailing. A nodule was found on her vocal cords that had the potential to affect her blossoming career. Nevertheless, the determined singer pressed on and through and using the classical Bel Canto technique for only a year, she was healed without undergoing surgery or voice rest.

Inspired by her triumph, Aria continued to improve by involving herself in various musical activities. In high school, she sang for a select choir, in the school jazz band, and an original funk band.

She proceeded to study jazz performance and composition at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Manhattan, where she had the opportunity to work with jazz icons such as Reggie Workman, Charles Tolliver, and Rachel Z. After which, she toured with several acts in the music industry across various genres.

Aside from her impressive experience and portfolio as a musician, Aria is also a distinguished entrepreneur and the founder of the production studio Saint Morretta. Under the enterprise, she produced an EP called When the Sun Comes Up, an all-original, self-produced material.

As a testament to her unrivaled expertise, the singer-songwriter was recently invited to Ari Herstand and Danny Ross’ SongCon, where she had the chance to work with Grammy-winning songwriters, producers, and engineers like Chris Sclafani, Dan Edinberg, and Marc Plotkin.

Moving forward, Aria intends to continue her upward trajectory in the music scene as a solo artist. On top of that, she hopes to scale the influence of her production studio and help more promising musicians find their voices in the industry.

Finally, the gifted woman is preparing for the upcoming release of the StoneBridge remix of her song “Cried All On My Own,” scheduled to drop on August 23. In the meantime, fans can stream her other tracks and EPs on various platforms, including Spotify

International Soccer Player Michael Gianino Shares How He Used Criticisms as Fuel to Live His Dream

Dreaming big can be daunting, especially because one does not necessarily know what the future holds. But rising soccer player Michael Gianino believes not trying is scarier than failing. So, with nothing up his sleeves but his dream of someday cementing his name in the soccer industry, Michael ventured to different parts of the world and eventually played in Europe, an opportunity often unheard of among American soccer players. Not only did his hard work equip him with all the necessary skills a promising soccer player should have, but his adventures also allowed him to broaden his community and make meaningful relationships with soccer players, freestylers, content creators, and influencers from all walks of life.

Michael grew up in Staten Island, New York. Before sealing the deal to play soccer in Europe, he was selected by FIGC coach and current manager of Inter Femminile, Attilio Sorbie, as one of the final 16 among the 800 American and Canadian soccer players who tried out to compete against the Italian National Team on an all-expense paid venture in 2016 as part of Puma’s Il Viaggio program.

After scoring 72 goals and 54 assists collectively in his four high school seasons, Michael was awarded by many renowned soccer organizations and events, including the 2017 NYC Mayor’s Cup All-Star Game, the CHSAA All-League Award, and the Staten Island Advance All-Star. He was also nominated as Best Offensive Player on Staten Island four times and Staten Island Advance Player of the Week many times. Michael was also the 2017 CHSAA Undefeated City Champion and was selected for the New Jersey Olympic Development Program Squad.

He played for two seasons of NCAA Division 1 soccer at Long Island University but dropped out of the team during the pandemic, deciding to expand his horizons by signing a contract with a professional soccer club in Spain called CD Leganes. Today, he trains with another team in RFEF Tercera Division in Madrid and is committed to playing in the upcoming USL2 league this summer for his old club, NJ Copa FC.

With his success and career today, traveling the world while playing his favorite sport, Michael aims to inspire the younger generation of aspiring athletes to reach their dreams. He remembers how he struggled to get to where he is today, emphasizing that he can relate to the kids constantly being told they are not good enough for the big leagues. He wants to show them that he is living that dream and it is a reachable goal, as long as one is willing to put in the effort needed to get the job done.

“I want to inspire kids to believe in themselves, especially when it comes to soccer. They need to know that with a dream and property work ethic, anything is possible,” the athlete explained. “After being told my whole life that I was too small or too slow, I was determined to prove everybody wrong. I always believed in my ability and potential, in addition to God’s plan for me. I know so many aspiring soccer players dealing with so many struggles, especially with underlying corruption within the game itself. I’ve seen so many players give up when they were more than good enough to play at the next level. I want kids to know to never give up on their dreams because they are possible,” Michael added.

How To Hire The Right Sales Rep For Your Coaching Business – Patrick Galang Shares 7 Steps To A Successful Hire

Written by: Patrick Galang

Handing off the most important part of your business, SALES, can be daunting.

Here’s what you can do to make sure you get the right person to crush sales for your business.

These are the exact steps we implement in our sales recruitment business – Setters & Closers

  1. Have a solid application process. Not only do you want to have questions about their experience, but you want to ask:

    a. What’s motivating them to change to another role?
    b. What’s the ideal role look like for them?
    c. Who are the people they’ve learnt sales from?
    d. How much have they invested in their professional development?
  1. Include a short 1 to 2 min video about who they are. This is a crucial part of the process. From our experience, those who don’t provide a video were never 100% interested in the role. One other thing to watch out for is that they follow instructions of the video. For us, the video tells us a whole lot about the candidate.
  1. Next step is the interview phase where certain qualities can come into play. Once you’ve gone through some basic rapport building, it’s time to move onto specifics. Here’s a list of questions we like to use:

    a. What are your expectations from having a chat with us? We find this is a slight pattern interrupt and not something a lot of sales people prepare for. It can show us how quickly they can think on their feet.
    b. Who have been your biggest influences in sales? Everyone is influenced by someone else in sales. If they say they figured it all out themselves, be curious.
    c. How well do you know your sales stats? Tell me about your best month in sales? Here, you want to hear conviction in their tone.
    d. Pretend I was a client and you wanted to get an understanding of what I need, how would you go about it? An impromptu mock call is always great to check for confidence, but also to see if they lower expectations by saying that they ‘weren’t prepared for this’.
    e. What are your goals and what’s stopped you from achieving them? This can give a good insight on their mindset and also what limiting beliefs they may have to achieve what they set out to do.
  1. Now that the questions are done, the next step is to give them the vision you have for your business. This is your chance to showcase what you have planned, as well as what you’re going to do to achieve them.
  2. Discuss your marketing plan. This will show the commitment you have for building your business. Sales people love good leads! And if you have a strong marketing plan laid out, they could see that as massive potential to make sales and commissions!
  1. Give clear expectations for the role. There’s nothing worse than having the right person start but then be shocked when what they were expecting is not the reality. Be clear with what your expectations are and then they can be clear that the role will be for them.
  1. Make the offer! Last but not least, be sure to make an offer for the right candidate that’s in line with their skills, experience and something that will motivate them to come and stay with you.

There are a few factors in getting the right hire. By going through this process, you give yourself the opportunity to bring on a team member that will do good for themselves and your business.

Founder Dani Monroe Announces The Line Up of Empowering Speakers For The 2022 MV Chief Diversity Officer Summit This August

The field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is blossoming – at a time when our country cries out in deep need for the empowering work being accomplished by the leading Chief Diversity Officers. There is no better time for the 2022 Martha’s Vineyard Chief Diversity Officer Summit. An inaugural event, it is with excitement that Founder Dani Monroe announces the speakers due to take the stage come August 8th.

The stage is set for history, as we move closer to the inaugural Martha’s Vineyard Chief Diversity Officer Summit. The convening of over 125 of the brightest in the world of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) will take place from August 10th to the 12th – featuring speeches, panel discussions, and a collaborative discussion with the greater community of the Vineyard.

The summit, the first of its kind, continues to draw excitement in parallel with the now blossoming field of DE&I.

Its founder, the changemaker Dani Monroe has been a pioneer in this space as the trusted advisor and Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) who has led organizational change within institutions like Pfizer, the Central Intelligence Agency, Walt Disney Company, Hasbro, and Mass General Brigham.

When Monroe began her career forty years ago, the concept of a Chief Diversity Officer was yet unheard of. Fast forward to 2022 and she’ll be hosting the most innovative members of the DE&I community at a CDO summit that will be cemented as a Martha’s Vineyard tradition for years to come.

Martha’s Vineyard is a longtime respite for America’s most diverse communities and a cherished landmark for the likes of African-American heroes Frederick Douglas and Langston Hughes. This August, the Massachusetts island will be home to renewal. Monroe’s vision for the event: a haven with a deep sense of wellness and joy.

“There is the opportunity to experience healing and psychological safety in the environment of Martha’s Vineyard,” Monroe says, “while at the same time being in community – with people who are going through similar experiences as you as a Chief Diversity Officer. That in itself creates healing.”

As such, it is with anticipation that Monroe reveals the esteemed list of speakers and panelists who will lead the dialogue in Martha’s Vineyard. Guests include:

Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett: the scientist whose work was essential to the creation of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Damon A. Williams, PhD: the CEO, thought leader, and author who has served millions through strategic diversity leadership.

And Nicole Hannah-Jones: the Pulitzer Prize winning author of the 1619 Project and Professor of Journalism at Howard University.

With too many highlights to name, you can find the full list on the Summit’s website.

Monroe’s first concept for the summit was to hold an intimate gathering in her living room – the sheer number of people who have jumped at the chance to serve and be active in their community has amazed the Founder. “The Spirit put this on my soul to carry out – I didn’t know the full message until we started walking this path. The beauty of it is this isn’t a Monroe path – this has been a collective effort.”

This meeting of DE&I’s greatest minds and innovative CDOs could not have come at a more critical time for our nation’s workplace and politics. Equal parts respite, celebration, and dialogue, this convening will observe the stunning growth that the field has accomplished in the last few years, while looking forward with agency and hopeful optimism to the work still to be done.

There’s much to celebrate: 50% of CDOs came into their role in 2019 and 2020, a testament to the rapid evolution of the DE&I landscape. “Corporation’s have become more socially conscious than ever before,” Monroe says. “They have begun to realize that their employees care about the issues of social justice and they can no longer sit on the sidelines.”

The cultural revolution called to action by George Floyd’s murder, the burnout and human capital issues invoked by the pandemic, and – most recently – SCOTUS’ decision on Roe V Wade which disproportionately impacts women of color and marginalized communities, are among the issues that rest upon the shoulders of our country’s CDOs. The summit gathers the intellect, resources, and support needed to turn such problems into triumph.

To all the CDOs who have fought this good but thankless fight, Monroe is building a place at Martha’s Vineyard where they can be renewed with wellness and joy. “We see you,” Monroe says. “Others may not, but we do.”

An event as historic as this would not occur if not on the shoulder of giants. Monroe honors the pioneering spirit of the late Adrienne Williams, Phd; and her mentor Dr. Price Cobbs, amongst countless other heroes who devoted their lives to the emergence of DE&I which will now be celebrated this August at Martha’s Vineyard.

This may be a closed event exclusively crafted for the CDO community, but its song will ring throughout our workplaces and our country. The attendees represent every industry and their platform spans across organizations including Amazon, Google, and BlackRock.

“We’re a beacon of hope and light for people in organizations who often have to stand tall and stand their ground when others aren’t right,” Monroe says. It’s no wonder why the 2022 CDO Summit’s logo boldly wears a lighthouse.

On August 10th, a great light will emit from Martha’s Vineyard – with it a message. “Support each other as human beings today,” Dani Monroe says. “Step back into that space and humanity – half of what we’re dealing with would go away.”

For those fortunate enough to attend, there are still tickets available to the Community Conversation on August 12th. To keep up with the incredible work being accomplished by the Chief Diversity Officer Summit and its Founder, Dani Monroe, be sure to visit their website.

2022 reviews are in: Top picks for Independence Day fireworks from each region

Melaleuca Freedom Celebration; Photographer, Nick Jones

Written by: Tedfuel

It’s that time of year again! The sky is dark, the air is cool, and Americans everywhere are celebrating Independence Day with dazzling fireworks displays. This year, we’re taking a look back at six of the biggest shows in the country from different regions and grading them on their performance. Drumroll please…

East Coast

Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show

The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show in New York City was filled to the brim with entertainment. This year’s show featured celebrity performers Brett Eldredge, Carly Pearce, and Pitbull followed by the Young People’s Chorus of New York and The United States Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus, led by Ray Chew as the musical director and producer.

The show launched 48,000 shells, fired from the East River, beginning a beautiful display of colors that lit up the sky, honoring America’s history. This was followed by an impressive array of fireworks that exploded in all directions from five barges, filling the sky with light and excitement.

The grade-A entertainment and colorful spectacle made this our top pick for those on the East Coast.

Midwest

Navy Pier Fireworks

Crowds throughout the Midwest region flocked to participate in this year’s Navy Pier fireworks display in Chicago, IL and were not disappointed. The Navy Pier is already famous for its regular fireworks shows throughout the summer season, but every year they amp up the firepower by 50% for Fourth of July festivities.

Spectators saved seats across the Pier all day, anticipating the evening’s events, scouting out the very best views from which to watch the fireworks.

The river beautifully reflected the colorful array in the sky and dazzled the thousands who came to celebrate. And for an event that had been littered with violence in the past, this year’s event was safe and memorable for all viewers, thanks to local law enforcement and mindful event planners.

Rocky Mountain Region

Melaleuca Freedom Celebration

Just a short drive from Yellowstone National Park, the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration in Idaho Falls, ID is a favorite event for spectators in the Rocky Mountain region. The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration has been noted by national media, such as USA Today, Travel + Leisure, and Readers Digest, along with the American Pyrotechnics Association (APA). It is also a four-year winner of the “Best Annual Event” by 150,000 readers of Post Register newspaper. And when you’re there among the mountain views, antique tractors, and off-roading Jeeps course, it’s easy to see why.

An expansive landscape marked the viewing area for the Fourth of July festivities. This open lawn amphitheater was designed and custom-built for the annual Melaleuca Freedom Celebration, making it the only location in America specifically designed for spectators viewing fireworks. The 40-foot inclined platform and half-moon bend to the grounds provided every viewer with a seemingly front-row seat, accommodating with ease and comfort the 200,000 eventgoers.

With 18,237 brightly colored fireworks, this show is spectacular. And these fireworks are a cut above the rest. For the last two years, The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration proudly announced the majority of their fireworks were made in the USA, providing brighter colors and custom-created designs seen nowhere else.

It’s a 31-minute story of patriotism and spectacle that makes it a fan-favorite year after year for those in and out of the Rocky Mountain region, particularly for those customers who love Melaleuca products and are proud to participate in the festivities.

West Coast

AmericaFest

To celebrate Rose Bowl stadium’s 100th birthday, this year’s AmericaFest focuses on some of the most memorable moments in the venue’s history. The show welcomes back fan-favorite TNT Freestyle Motocross with a thrilling 30-minute performance before Fourth of July festivities take way. Afterwards, Drake Milligan performs a musical set to the delight of the gathered crowd.

While tickets and parking for the venue is expensive, the entertainment and spectacle leave nothing to be desired. This year’s event marks the 96th annual AmericaFest, making it the nation’s longest running Independence Day shows in America’s history.

The crowds were awed by this year’s pyrotechnics as they not only celebrated America’s independence but also the stadium’s centennial.

Southwest

Kaboom Town

Addison, TX lays claim to one of the best fireworks shows in the Southwest and has been featured as a fan-favorite by local and national media.

This year’s show was no exception. 500,000 spectators took over the 16,000-resident city to witness the Independence Day festivities, lit off on July 3rd. Crowds gathered at restaurant and hotel viewing parties to get the best views and experience the thrill of glittering pyrotechnics.

This 25-minute fireworks show was accompanied by a live-broadcast soundtrack from a local radio station with a mixture of pop and patriotic songs. And after a long day of swimming, playing, and eating at the many viewing locations throughout the city, the crowd settled in for a lovely show.

The South

Let Freedom Sing!

For those in the South, the Let Freedom Sing! event in Nashville, TN was the place to be. The event brought in hundreds of thousands of spectators from all over the region to celebrate America’s troops and America’s freedoms.

Leading up to the fireworks show this year, Amazon sponsored the “Family Fun Zone,” which included bounce houses, bungee jumping, face painting, axe throwing, and more, making it fun for the whole family. Families spent the day on the grassy lawn of the fun zone enjoying their day of festivities.

As you might expect, live music by big-name artists was the name of the game for Music City’s annual hoopla. This year’s headliner was Old Dominion with other diverse artists like Gramps Morgan, Cassadee Pope, and Levi Hummon as part of the entertainment lineup.

The breathtaking fireworks display was accompanied by the GRAMMY-winning Nashville Symphony, which concluded the fireworks portion of the celebration. The impressive finale brought cheers from the crowd.

Next Year’s Plans

The Great Resignation

Last November, a record-breaking 4.5 million workers left their jobs. As of this May, that number hovers at 4.3 million, according to the Labor Department’s latest report.

“Before the pandemic, millions were struggling with feelings of burnout,” says Dr. Darren D. Moore, Ph.D., a licensed marriage and family therapist and professor. “After an extended period of working from home, many of them began prioritizing work-life balance and personal fulfillment over their careers. If there is a lesson to learn from the Great Resignation, it’s that employers can no longer take their employees for granted.”

Is the Great Resignation over?

This workplace revolution is moving ahead at full steam. In fact, according to a recent survey of over 52,000 workers worldwide, one in five employees plan to resign sometime during 2022.

“The pandemic caused many to reevaluate where, how, and why they worked,” remarks Dr. Moore. “Some decided they needed a greater work/life balance, while others appreciated increased flexibility and wanted to continue working from home. With time to reflect, many realized they wanted more fulfilling careers.”

After coming through the collective experience and impact of COVID-19, tens of millions of employees reexamined what they considered to be fair compensation for their time and skills. They took a hard look at their worth, their needs, their family’s needs, and their values. In many cases, they decided these things did not align with the compensation they received from their employers and left to pursue better opportunities elsewhere.

“Whatever their reasons were for leaving, changing careers causes massive stress,” says Dr. Moore. “The transition takes a toll on the employees who resign themselves, their families, their co-workers, and their employers. In addition, the months of upheaval employees experienced during the pandemic are still very much in the back of their minds. A declining economy and continued workplace uncertainty contribute to mounting anxiety. The question faced by organization leaders today is how to respond. Will they move forward as if nothing has happened, or will they answer their employees’ needs with compassion?”

Is burnout fueling the great resignation?

Monster’s 2021 hiring survey reveals that burnout is the top reason employees have been — and still are — leaving their jobs. Burnout can be a reaction to prolonged stress, and is often characterized by feelings of exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced professional ability.

“To address burnout, employers need to transition from an administrative stance to a more progressive employee-centered role,” suggests Dr. Moore, who works with leaders regarding mental health in the workplace. “The leaders who navigate the new workplace realities by putting employees first and responding with compassion will be the ones who retain a greater percentage of their employees during the Great Resignation.”

Compassionate employers are forging new strategies and building people-centered workplaces. These employers realize that their decisions make a real difference in the lives of their employees and their businesses, and are helping to set the stage for the future of workplaces everywhere.

Is remote work solving the problem?

The transition to remote work is causing stress in many workplace environments. While some workers thrive on the flexibility of working remotely, others do not. A shift to remote work can cause some workers to put in long hours and blur boundaries between work and home. In addition, decreased social interaction between co-workers leads some (though not all) to struggle with prolonged feelings of isolation, loneliness, and depression.

On the other side of the coin, employers worry productivity is suffering. However, many have noted improvements in work productivity among remote workers. When more and more employees work remotely, communication throughout the organization can become challenging. Therefore, it is not only important, but critical for employers to adapt their communication strategies. Power struggles can arise between employees and employers who have different desires, needs, and values regarding how, when, and — more importantly — where work is performed.

Employers can establish a task force to smooth the transition to remote work. It’s vital to keep tabs on how remote workers feel, offer support, and help them remain connected.

As remote work is becoming the norm in many organizations, company leadership should consider how to maintain relationships and fun in the culture. Almost everyone who works from home struggles with feelings of isolation to some degree. Social activities like virtual happy hours and holiday celebrations can help make remote staff feel valued and included.

Addressing needs with increased communication

Employers who consistently communicate with employees will drastically reduce workplace turnover. They need to put forth a message that is transparent and clear, but they also need to listen. Open communication reveals workplace sentiment, fosters community, and inspires confidence.

Modern workplaces are constantly evolving and navigating new territory. Employees are aware there isn’t a playbook, and they don’t demand all the answers. What they want is timely feedback and a chance to offer input.

“In light of changes in today’s workplace, employers are learning the value of honest communication,” Dr. Moore adds. “When company leaders and employees openly discuss needs and goals, the workplace can adapt.”

Employers can commit to practical communication in several ways. Frequent manager surveys taking a pulse on areas such as work/life balance, workplace culture, and collaboration are critical.

“The Covid-19 pandemic was a defining event worldwide,” Dr. Moore observes. “Many employees remain vulnerable and uncertain. Instead of defending a return to pre-pandemic workplace culture, employers must find ways to show their employees that they deserve more than money to compensate for their time and talent. Compassion and empathy are the tools to make workers feel valued and put an end to the Great Resignation.”
