DMTS on Turning His Life Around to Become a Positive Influence and Community Hero

With experience comes mastery and a strong resolve to never be on paths that proved to be undesirable from the past. For Deivone Tanksley Sr., aka DMTS, he has used his past experiences to better his life and is now using the same lessons to help other people better their lives.

Born into abject poverty and everyday struggles in New Britain, CT, DMTS stood a very little chance of making it out of the hood. At the age of eleven, he already got in and out of jail, which was defining for him. As a black kid, he knew he needed to do better for himself and break the cycle that many young black people were already stereotyped for. This informed his choice to change his life, and he embarked on the mission of giving back to his community while helping other young people make better choices for themselves.

DMTS has founded many initiatives to help the next generation lead better lives and make the most of their abilities. He’s the founder of a basketball mentoring program called New Britain Legacies, which has a presence in youth jails all over Connecticut. He also established DMTS Network, an entertainment platform that helps artists and creators flourish with their talents. On the business side, he owns a restaurant called My Wife Didn’t Cook, an active player in feeding over 5,000 less privileged people all over Connecticut.

DMTS has tried to expand his reach by contesting for Mayor in 2019 as a petitioning candidate. Even though he did not win, he has remained committed to his service to humanity and his community. As a father of six kids who did not graduate high school, DMTS never fails to emphasize the importance of education for everyone, and he proved that by obtaining an electrical diploma from Lincoln Tech. His impact cuts across with him extending it into the literary world with his books “A Mother’s Pain” and “Pain. Guilt & Success.”

Deivone Tanksley Sr. takes pride in his story and sense of communal building. He has built a solid platform in his name and is actively using his acquired influence to improve lives all over Connecticut. His goal is to extend that impact to other states in the United States. He also established We Believe Academy, a mentoring and prep school that sends kids to college all over the country. While he’s a powerful agent of change, Deivone Tanksley  Sr. has been walking the talk as well by getting a full pardon of his record. He also received the “Youth Tomorrow’s Award” from the NAACP in 2019.

Being a music artist using his creative skills to inspire the masses has endeared him to many young people’s hearts, and his new EP Poverty 2 Prodigy lends credence to that. Over the next few years, his goal is to change the mindset of millions of young boys and girls and get recognized globally for his humanitarian work. He also hopes to achieve success in his businesses to contribute significantly to bettering others’ lives through investment and empowerment and putting an end to hunger.

Deivone Tanksley Sr. charges everyone to play their part in making the world better. “We all have pain in our lives, some more than others, but we all share one thing that can help shift the world in a positive direction. And that’s LOVE. “Don’t wait until you’re rich to give. Give now.”
