So far, it’s been a pretty good year for hip-hop artist and rapper S7GMA.
And the remainder of the year promises to be even better.
Later this fall, S7GMA will release the “Mind Of Me” project, culminating his year-long journey to create music that expresses this period of reflection and self-discovery.
S7GMA has already created a buzz by releasing the three prominent singles part of the project as a preview. There are seven singles in all.
Released in May, S7GMA describes the single “Now” as him opening the doors to his new future, starting now. It refers not only to new music and a new sound but also to a new thought process, a new self, and a whole new start.
“I would like to say that I am re-born, but in the song it’s more like I am finally born,” said S7GMA. “Whoever I was in the past – during the bad times and even the good times – I was still being me for somebody else, still satisfying others and never satisfying myself. At least until now.”
While it was the first single released, “Now” is the last song of the project, telling everybody who S7GMA is now and will be going forward.
The single “Sorry” – located in the very middle of the project and released in July – enabled S7GMA to get things off his chest because he says he’s usually not one to talk about what’s bothering him in his life.
He said he had been feeling sad for quite a while after losing both his father and his best friend in the span of just six weeks. But then he came to the realization that “time waits for nobody” – and now the song provides good advice for us all.
“As far as everybody else is concerned, we all need to stop feeling stuck,” he said. “Don’t allow being sad to keep you in place. Time doesn’t care that you’re grieving. Sorry you had to go through what you went through to get to this point right now. But it’s time to move on.”
The single “Welcome” is the introduction and initial feeling of “Mind Of Me.” It’s the third and final single to be released as a preview of the project.
“’Welcome’ introduces people not only to my past but also to my present,” said S7GMA. “And not only to me as an artist, as S7GMA, but also to me as a human being, as the person that actually goes through all these experiences, all these trials and tribulations, and that learns all these lessons.”
S7GMA locked himself in his room for the first three months of this year and worked on music, music and only music during that time. And “Mind Of Me” was the result.
He said he got the idea last year around Christmas time when his brother spoke to him in a manner that S7GMA could only describe as “tough love.”
“He basically said you’re a nobody, at least in the music industry. Nobody is waiting for S7GMA to drop music. Nobody is sitting back wondering when S7GMA is going to drop his next single. But I just kept saying that ‘I’m going through some stuff.’
“I had to come to the realization that nobody cares that I’m sad; nobody cares that I’m going through stuff,” he said. “So I had to change my ways, change my mentality, and change my perspective. Basically rewire myself. And that’s how ‘Mind Of Me’ came about.”
“Mind Of Me” will be released on November 12, which happens to be S7GMA’s birthday.
“It’s a personal project, so I thought it would be good to release it on the personal day of the year for me,” he said.
Once the project is released, S7GMA will be in the final planning stages of a three-city Texas tour that will then become a Latin American tour beginning in the spring of 2025.
