Benji Baby Marks the Music Scene with Something That No One Has Done Before

A graduation rites ceremony can be many things. It’s filled with emotional partings and celebrations of accomplishment. But one thing it has never been in the past is a music video set. Now, that experience has been baptized as new and rising artist Benji Baby becomes the first recorded artist to create a music video at his college graduation.

Creating the music video for his hit track “Its Up,” part of the artist’s album Overtime, involved bringing a crew to his own graduation ceremony. The music video was created and edited by videographer Number 3 and features actual scenes from Benji Baby’s closing rites at his now alma mater. The video first hit the internet on June 25, 2021.

The challenge of doing something that had never been done before was daunting. On top of that, the music video shoot happened amid all the commotion in education systems. School reopening and events have been a hot matter, with COVID-19 contaminations still happening across the nation. Yet despite those obstacles, the team behind the shoot pushed through, and the video came to life.

Benji Baby is a rap artist born in New Jersey but raised in Columbus, Ohio. His fame skyrocketed after the release of his album Overtime. Benji shares that the record is an ode to his years in school and all the experiences that have come along with it. “I have been in school my whole life while maintaining a music career along with working day-to-day,” explains Benji Baby. “With all the work I have put in, I was faced with a lot of adversity along the way to the point. I had times where I wanted to stop making music and put the mic down, but I continued to grow and work overtime to see it through.”

Finding his place in the world wasn’t always a walk in the park. It took a tremendous amount of time and effort on his part to discover and hone his talent. But now, he’s not holding back as he relentlessly pursues a music career, which has been nothing but promising. Benji shares how the realization of having only this one life has pushed him to go beyond any challenge that presents itself to the hip-hop sensation.

As a Ghanian by origin who has spent time in two different cultures, his versatility is notable. He loves getting into hip-hop and R&B while also crossing over to Afro-style music from time to time. The artist shares that he is currently working on a pure Afro-beat album to pay homage to his roots. All in all, Benji Baby has shown that nothing could stop him from pursuing any creative endeavor, even if it means developing a full music video in one afternoon during a busy school event.

Benji’s graduation happened on December 12, 2020, the same day he released his album. After six months, he would release the video on YouTube, and the views would come flying in. To date, the music video now has over 29,000 views and is still counting.

Artist Benji Baby shares that he still has some other tricks up his sleeve as he promises more content in 2022 and beyond. Check Benji out on Spotify, Apple Music, and Instagram to keep track of his music and content.
