Artist Marcellas Clay on His Journey to the Music Industry and Goals of Becoming the King of Rock and R&B

In every genre of music, icons often rise to take on the moniker of being the best. Michael Jackson is undoubtedly recognized as the king of pop, known for his high energy and excellent lyricism. Madonna shared similar success as she took the world by storm with her hits, style trends, and pushing the boundaries of pop, earning the ‘queen of pop’ moniker. For artist Marcellas Clay, reaching their level is the ultimate goal as he aims to establish himself in the music industry as the new era’s king of rock and R&B.

Marcellas Don’Tae Clay hails from Lake Providence, Louisiana. He would later move to Fort Worth, Texas. Clay has four brothers and two sisters. When he was eight years old, Clay grew an interest in music and taught himself to sing and dance. Even at an early age, he exhibited prodigious talent when he learned to play the piano by ear. Throughout the years, Clay would delve into other instruments, mastering the guitar and the drums.

Although music is his first and greatest love, Clay also went into acting, playing lead roles on the stage and walking runways as a model. Adaptable in all his endeavors, Clay still found himself eager to establish himself in a music career. In 2007, he took part in the national singing competition series American Idol. Clay made it to the second round in the 2008 season before he was eliminated. However, the opportunity gave him the confidence and drive to pursue his passion. That same year, Marcellas Clay recorded his first CD titled My Broken Heart, an album of six tracks that he wrote and produced. My Broken Heart would sell for nearly 800 copies and actively motivate him to pursue a career in the music industry. Clay would sign with Itisso Media Group and produce more music, earning more recognition as an artist.

Clay is influenced by classical, country, jazz, R&B, and gospel music. He incorporates his inspiration to create songs that carry an R&B and soul vibe. Clay has collaborated with other artists, giving him more attention. People have sought him out to sing for duets, weddings, and live shows.

Over the years, the aspiring musician & songwriter has released a handful of albums. He is set to release his fourth studio album titled Marcellas, which will include his hit singles, New Love, My Prayer, and I Can’t Breathe.
