Today’s generation is getting a taste of the 90s vibe once again with The People’s Thieves, an emerging alternative rock band from Salt Lake City, Utah, with the release of the band’s album titled Tunnels.

If anything, Tunnels is an elevated celebration of the band’s unique collective gifts in songwriting and composition. The album is composed of awe-inspiring tracks which include “Hold My Weight,” “Twisted,” “Now That We’re Alone,” “Us,” “Carl Goes to School,” “Black Water,” “On My Own,” “When the Sun Goes,” “The 5th,” and “Stay.”
The People’s Thieves is made up of three talented men: cousins Jackson and Dallan Turnbull, singing lead vocals and instrumentation, and Brent Richards on drums. Jackson and Dallan wrote their first song together in 2014 and, after seeing their potential together, decided to start a band. In the beginning, the two wrote acoustic songs and singer-songwriter music before they found the niche appropriate for their thrust as artists. Shortly thereafter, Brent joined them after Jackson spotted him and made an instant connection based on a band tattoo.
The band finally released their first album called Voices, which surprisingly made it to number 31 on the iTunes Alternative Chart. Since then, the album has generated more than three million staggering streams on Spotify with more than 500,000 listeners. The band’s successful debut album inspired them to elevate their craft as fans longed for more of its artistry. Finally, Tunnels arrived on August 20, 2021, reaching #7 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and #45 in the Top Overall Albums nationwide.
The People’s Thieves captured their audience with their highly relatable lyrics, which mostly reveal the members’ personal struggles with depression and anxiety. The three hope to inspire their listeners to continue the fight to preserve their mental health by sharing their personal stories in their songs.
