Alternative Rock Band The People’s Thieves Brings Back the X-Factor in Alternative Rock

Alternative rock is very much alive in this generation, elevating the remarkable experience of music fans from the 90s who reveled in the masterpieces of popular bands like Bush, Goo Goo Dolls, and Smashing Pumpkins, to mention a few. The 90s paved the way for a whole plethora of amazing talents that cemented the music genre’s influence among its followers. Today’s generation is getting a taste of the 90s vibe once again with The People’s Thieves, an emerging alternative rock band from Salt Lake City, Utah, with the release of the band’s album titled Tunnels

The band is steadily making a name for itself as it continues to make music that is making waves on streaming platforms. With 20 million streams and 11 million views on YouTube, there is no doubt that it has created a massive following from all walks of life. From the time it released its first album in 2017, the band has been fortunate enough to make it to the top ten alternative albums, proof that it has successfully captured an audience that cannot get enough of its music.

Its single “Now That We’re Alone” became a YouTube sensation from the time it was released 11 months ago, generating more than 2.1 million views. The single “Diamond Walls” from five years ago garnered 407,000 views, while “Twisted” attracted 206,000 views when it was released one year ago. The song “Falling Off” was another crowd favorite when it was released four years ago, generating 142,000 views on YouTube.

If anything, Tunnels is an elevated celebration of the band’s unique collective gifts in songwriting and composition. The album is composed of awe-inspiring tracks which include “Hold My Weight,” “Twisted,” “Now That We’re Alone,” “Us,” “Carl Goes to School,” “Black Water,” “On My Own,” “When the Sun Goes,” “The 5th,” and “Stay.”

The People’s Thieves is made up of three talented men: cousins Jackson and Dallan Turnbull, singing lead vocals and instrumentation, and Brent Richards on drums. Jackson and Dallan wrote their first song together in 2014 and, after seeing their potential together, decided to start a band. In the beginning, the two wrote acoustic songs and singer-songwriter music before they found the niche appropriate for their thrust as artists. Shortly thereafter, Brent joined them after Jackson spotted him and made an instant connection based on a band tattoo.

The band finally released their first album called Voices, which surprisingly made it to number 31 on the iTunes Alternative Chart. Since then, the album has generated more than three million staggering streams on Spotify with more than 500,000 listeners. The band’s successful debut album inspired them to elevate their craft as fans longed for more of its artistry. Finally, Tunnels arrived on August 20, 2021, reaching #7 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and #45 in the Top Overall Albums nationwide.

The People’s Thieves captured their audience with their highly relatable lyrics, which mostly reveal the members’ personal struggles with depression and anxiety. The three hope to inspire their listeners to continue the fight to preserve their mental health by sharing their personal stories in their songs. As more and more music fans are entertained by their brand of alternative rock, The People’s Thieves is expected to become one of the country’s most influential bands in this generation.
