“Shameful Prowess,” a new novel by debut author Charlee Rae Valentine, is an autobiographical work of fiction that follows a master manipulator on her quest for power and status by seducing wealthy men. Valentine, writing under a pseudonym to protect her identity, creates a rich, character-driven story that examines what people are willing to do to get ahead, and the repercussions they consequently face.

At the surface, this steamy story presents itself as a romp through late-night encounters, punctuated with comedic moments and the schadenfreude of getting one over on the rich and powerful. However, the novel quickly proves to be a more substantive exploration of seduction, relationships, and scarcity-driven behavior.
