Harlem Standard Whiskey Tasting: A Night of Elegance and Philanthropy

A night of unparalleled elegance and philanthropy unfolded under the starry canopy of the urban sky. Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr., the third-generation cigar maker of the famed Dominican Republic cigar house Arturo Fuente, played host to a remarkable event – the “Hustler Club Cigar and Harlem Standard Whiskey Tasting.” This event, held in Bryant Park last week, was not just an evening of opulence but also a gesture of goodwill, with proceeds benefiting the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation’s mission to build schools in the Dominican Republic.

With tickets priced at $1,500, the dinner was an exclusive affair, attracting a select group of individuals who shared a passion for fine cigars, premium whiskey, and philanthropy. Every dollar spent on a ticket contributed to the noble cause of providing educational opportunities for the less fortunate in the Dominican Republic.

As the city’s elite gathered to support a noble cause, the night offered much more than just charity; it provided an opportunity to experience the harmony of premium cigars and superlative whiskey, all in the magnificent backdrop of New York City. The afterparty, hosted at Althea’s  Rooftop on the Hudson River, was nothing short of magical. Here, guests were treated to a captivating demonstration of hand-rolled cigars, a craft perfected over generations. These meticulously crafted cigars were then thoughtfully paired with five distinct varieties of Brian Di Marco’s award-winning Harlem Standard Whiskey.

Among the distinguished guests who graced the occasion were notable figures such as “The Soprano’s” Artie Pasquale, “Power” actor Joseph Sikora, and “Scarface” cast member Angel Salazar. Their presence added an extra layer of glamor to an already splendid evening, further emphasizing the importance of the cause they were all supporting.

While Harlem Standard may be a familiar name to those in the know, its essence extends far beyond the label. It is the first super-premium, proprietary blended whisky and bourbon born in Harlem, yet crafted in the heart of Kentucky. What sets Harlem Standard apart is its profound connection to the cultural renaissance that unfolded uptown during Prohibition. This whiskey carries with it the spirit of an era where bourbon and music blended to create an audacious journey that transcended decades and cultures.

Harlem Standard takes pride in its blend of old and new techniques, skillfully combining the highest quality ingredients with iron-free and calcium-rich limestone water from Kentucky. This meticulous process results in a complex yet harmonious flavor profile that is both unique and memorable. Notably, a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold contributes to the Jazz Foundation of America’s COVID-19 Musicians’ Emergency Fund, underlining Harlem Standard’s commitment to the arts.

90-PROOF STRAIGHT AMERICAN WHISKEY: Harlem Standard’s Straight American Whiskey is a blend of light whiskey and rye bourbon, aged for a minimum of three years and bottled at 90-proof. With notes of honey, maple, and citrus, it delivers a slow and sweet burn, making it perfect to enjoy neat, on the rocks, or as a key ingredient in classic cocktails.

93-PROOF BOURBON STRAIGHT WHISKEY: This high-rye blend is crafted at Indiana’s historic MGP distillery, aged for at least four years, and charred in American white oak barrels. The result is a smooth and mellow whiskey with hints of spice, roasted nuts, and a delightful vanilla bean finish. It’s a whiskey that demands to be savored neat and sipped slowly.

111-PROOF BOURBON STRAIGHT WHISKEY: Harlem Standard’s premium blend, the 4-Grain Bourbon Straight Whiskey, is a potent 111-proof offering. Crafted with proprietary yeast and glacier water, this whiskey boasts a mash bill of corn, wheat, rye, and barley malt. Aged for three years in new charred American white oak barrels, it tantalizes the palate with hints of maple, brown sugar, and Allspice, culminating in a long and smooth finish. This bourbon shines best when enjoyed neat or customized to your preferred fashion.
