Motivation is hard to come by during hard times, but Kobe Bryant’s Mamba Mentality remains alive today, giving people the much-needed inspiration to move forward and win against life’s adversities. For this reason, business partners Daniel Christopher Lee (DLee), Chris Brunes, and Webb Massey of the CDW Group initiated the Kobe Mural in their Ontario office bearing the famous Kobe line, “A constant quest to be the best version of one’s self.”
“I thought it would be an important reminder to the team and ourselves that despite our accomplishments, we must strive to be continually better,” DLee shared. “Our purpose here is to help people, keeping a ‘people focus.’ We do that, and the results, the money, and the professional growth follow.”
DLee himself is all too familiar with the challenges of dealing with adversity and obstacles to one’s dreams. He spent 18 years in sales and had to rise above being let go by companies. He also endured door-to-door sales. Those times in his career, however, made him resilient and all the more determined to succeed.
Finally, in 2019, DLee took the challenge of carving out his own path and developed Net Metering Systems (NMS), which became a multimillion-dollar company in just three years. Seeing the need to pursue something bigger, he created the CDW Group with his two partners. Interestingly, the latter duplicated the sales of NMS in just three months.
When asked what things attributed to DLee and his companies’ successes, he circled back to three things: personal development, people development, and an unyielding desire to win.
Staying motivated to be able to do more can also be a challenge when one is already successful. “Kobe once said we must use our success and our influence to help others achieve their dreams,” DLee shared. “That’s the daily focus, to help others achieve their dreams. Great things happen to you when you help others.”
