Anastasiia Pogrebnaia: How to Deal with Eyebrow Asymmetry and Is It Necessary to Do So

By: Anna Lewis

90% of all women suffer from eyebrow asymmetry. After all, women strive for perfection and try to consider every detail of their appearance for this goal. One of these details is the eyebrows. Eyebrows frame the face. They give character to the facial expressions and emotions and show individuality. But what do you do if the eyebrows are asymmetrical and look completely different? The solution to this problem was shared by eyebrow expert Anastasiia Pogrebnaia.

Eyebrow asymmetry is an often phenomenon that women try to deal with. But what can be considered eyebrow asymmetry, and what cannot? What are the ways to correct eyebrow asymmetry, and is it necessary to correct it?

Types of asymmetry

To correct asymmetry, it is necessary to understand its origin. This can be divided into four points:

  1. Genetic asymmetry. This type includes eyebrows of different widths and densities.
  2. Facial bone structure. With this type of asymmetry, one eyebrow may be more arched while the other is straight, or one eyebrow may be longer than the other.
  3. Mimicry. In this case, there may be almost no asymmetry if a person’s eyes are closed and all muscles are relaxed. But as soon as the eyes open, one eyebrow rises higher.
  4. External factors. In this case, it is simply plucking the eyebrows with tweezers by oneself or by an unprofessional master.

Each of these types of asymmetry can exist independently or concurrently. However, it’s important to note that this is a common occurrence. The only exception is the last point, “External factors.” Additionally, it’s rare for anyone to have perfectly symmetrical eyebrows.

Anastasiіa Pogrebnaia also shared about her segment “eyebrow analysis” for women on YouTube. Many women wrote to her asking Anastasia to analyze their eyebrows and advise them on how to correct their asymmetry.

Asymmetry correction

All the types of asymmetry listed above are present in every person. However, they can be corrected if necessary.

  • If the eyebrows are of different widths, then through correction, you can remove excess hair on the wider eyebrow to align them. It is not necessary to make the eyebrows the same width. Sometimes, by removing one row, the eyebrows will already look more harmonious.
  • If one eyebrow is thicker than the other, then the “thinning out” technique is ideal here. This is when the hairs are removed from inside the eyebrow. The main thing is to do this carefully so as not to create gaps in the eyebrows.
  • If one eyebrow is higher than the other or if one eyebrow is more arched, there is no need to try to make them identical. In this case, eyebrows grow according to the shape of the skull, and if you align them, the whole face will appear more asymmetric. Just do a neat eyebrow correction.
  • In the case of mimic asymmetry, it is important to correct it with relaxed facial muscles and closed eyes. In this case, only another person can do this, and it is better if it is a professional brow artist.
  • If your eyebrows have been over-plucked in the past and they have become thin and of different shapes, then in this case, put the tweezers aside for 6-12 months. Give the hairs time to grow back. And only after that, shape them.

Is it necessary to correct asymmetry?

Anastasia Pogrebnaia shares of her experience as a brow expert: “I have done over 5000 pairs of eyebrows. And I can confidently say that 90% of women asked me to make their eyebrows even. By the way, in 2021, I created my own line for eyebrow architecture, which can be fixed on the forehead to study eyebrow asymmetry in more detail. I even received a patent for it. Then my students and I used this line, and every time we were convinced that absolutely all eyebrows have different lengths and/or widths. Thus, most women also saw this and were able to accept not quite similar eyebrows for themselves. Including women who wrote to me on YouTube.”

Eyebrow symmetry is not the ideal of beauty. Natural asymmetry of the eyebrows and the face, in general, gives a person uniqueness and a special charm. It is important to find a balance between improving and maintaining your individuality. Keep this in mind when correcting strong asymmetry. And remember, sometimes small imperfections make us more attractive and interesting.
