Beauty Education Founder Flavia Leal Awarded Portuguese Brazilian Award 2022 For Her Stellar Community Contributions

Flavia Leal is a true American success story. The beauty mogul emigrated to the US from Brazil 22 years ago and worked hard to create a better — and more beautiful — life for her family. 

Today, she’s a businesswoman who owns several locations of the Flavia Leal Beauty School, has her own cosmetics line, and gives motivational speeches around the world. She was also recently awarded the Portuguese Brazilian Award 2022, an honor bestowed on individuals responsible for outstanding contributions to the Portuguese-speaking population of the US. 

Leal has a true rags-to-riches story — but it’s certainly not a tale of overnight success. When she arrived in the US with her baby daughter in tow and parents that needed her financial support, she had almost nothing to her name. So she began studying to earn a degree while also putting in 80-hour work weeks. 

At the same time, her daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, and Leal had to nurture her through all of her new needs as well. The single mother did all of this while living in substandard housing since it was all that she could afford.  

Journey to Success

Despite her best efforts, life still had more heartache for her and further obstacles she would need to overcome. Her father passed away in 2008, and her mother — who was also Leal’s best friend — followed in 2009. 

Instead of losing herself in grief, as many people would do — she doubled down. Leal saved her pennies and opened her first beauty school in 2010, dedicating her success to her mother and promising that she would use her burgeoning empire to help women in situations just like hers. 

Due to her inspiring outlook, helping nature, and generous business model, Leal quickly built a following of clients that regularly booked her services and aspiring beauticians that signed up to her school. She also developed a strong presence on social media, where fans flocked to hear her advice. 

The success pushed her to open her second location in 2011. Shortly after that, she plowed her significant profits into launching her own cosmetics line. And she’s been considered a great success story ever since. 

Uplifting Others

She offers some words of advice to would-be entrepreneurs that have a terrible day or question their dreams. “Do what you have to do, not what you want to do. When our minds get tired, we don’t want to open the door because of what is on the other side, but we have to do these things to grow,” said Leal.

And what growth did she take on next? Always up for a challenge, Leal began speaking and sharing her skills at beauty conferences around the world. Quickly, her audiences connected with her speeches, which strayed from beauty techniques to motivational advice, self-help techniques, and pure encouragement. She was a hit. 

Today, she has spoken to audiences across North America, Central America, and Europe.

True to her word, she has held the doors open wide at the Flavia Leal Beauty School. She welcomes students that might have been turned away at other schools for having difficult backgrounds, less education, or financial hardships.  

Once they graduate, the new beauty professionals have licenses in manicures and pedicures, artificial nail technology and design, cosmetology and makeup artist services, esthetic treatments, and more.

Graduates praise Leal for not only their new careers but for her motivated mindset that helps them to shift their entire outlook on life. 

When describing her unique style of empowering people, she said, “Everything is possible. It depends on what you want and believe in, despite where you come from or who you are. No one can tell anyone that they are not good enough. So I opened my school to help all students, regardless of where they come from.”

How 9 Things Will Change The Way You Approach Boston Shooting

It’s been a rough year. The Boston Marathon, the shootings in Newtown, and now the Boston Shooting all have us wondering how to stop violence in our society.
But what if there was no way to stop it? What if we have to learn how to live with violence for the foreseeable future?
The one thing we can do about violence, and that is shared by 9 things on this list, is learning how talk about it differently: more honestly and openly.

Here are 9 positive changes that we have to make if we want to stop violence in this world.

  1. We have to stop treating it as a crime and a sin
    At the end of the day, it’s never the right thing to do, whether it’s an elderly person pulling out or a teenager holding up a bank. But we have to stop treating shooting a person as a crime and shooting a human as a sin.
  2. We have to stop acting like curing violence is a cure-all don’t cure cancer, we manage it. We learn how to live with it. Violence is no different. It’s an ugly reality we are going to have to accept. So let’s manage it like we see fit, instead of trying to cure it.
  3. We have to look at what else is going on with the shooters
    Most violent crimes are not committed by people who suddenly flip out one day and decide to shoot a person. Most violent crimes are committed by people who have endured years of abusive behavior, physical or emotional.
  4. We need to look deeper into why we’re so violent as a society
    We try to come up with reasons for why it’s happening, and pretend that if we could get rid of those things, then shootings will stop. But violence is a part of our society. It’s always been a part of our society. The real debate is whether we should pretend it doesn’t exist, or admit that it exists, and try to do something about it.
  5. We have to agree that there is no magic solution
    We’ve already tried the “lock them up” approach, and the “let’s be more understanding” approach. Boston Shooting Neither of them works 100% of the time.
  6. We have to be honest about the people who are committing violent crimes
    Most of them are not psychopaths, criminally insane, or monsters. They’re often our children, our brothers, and our sisters.
  7. We need to put aside our differences and start working together as a community
    One of the reasons violence is so rampant in society is because we refuse to come together and make a change.
  8. We have to start thinking about whether our personal circle is really an upstanding community
    We’ve been kidding ourselves for so long about the people we surround ourselves with. We’ve lost all perspective and we’re acting like every single person in our lives is trustworthy and okay.
  9. We have to admit that violence isn’t always a result of a bad person, Boston Shooting bad act, or bad circumstance
    Sometimes it’s just random, and sometimes it’s the consequences of what society has pushed us into doing.

    We’ve been kidding ourselves for so long about the people we surround ourselves with. We’ve lost all perspective and we’re acting like every single person in our lives is trustworthy and okay.
    It’s gotten to the point where we don’t even care if people cheat on their spouses anymore because it’s so “normal” for people to be dishonest. We’re so fed up with violence, we’ll get behind anything as an excuse
    But we have to remember that this is real life and it happens in our lives every single day.
    There are plenty of people who are violent and dishonest people out there, which is why we need to act like they’re not okay with our own morals. My idea of a perfect world would be if everyone was honest with each other and did what they wanted without hurting another person or coming between two people who love each other.

Brandon Medford Sales Academy and the All-Digital Car Buying Platform, “Generation Drive,” are set to Launch on October 4th.

When talking about purchasing cars, people might imagine being inside a block-shaped building with parked cars inside, a well-dressed salesman holding a bunch of papers and the smell of a newly opened car scent. But, in Brandon Medford’s vision, this will all be digital.

On Friday, August 12th, at a VIP Event at the 40/40 Club, Brandon Medford announced the opening of the Brandon Medford Sales Academy and his all-digital car buying platform ‘Generation Drive”. Both will be launched at an event called “CulturePreneur,” which will take place at the Brooklyn Chop House in Times Square. The event will have some of the most notable names in today’s culture, such as; Eric Thomas, DJ Envy and Earn Your Leisure, amongst others. 

The event at the 40/40 Club was a commemoration of Brandon’s expansion and his continuous drive to pursue breaking barriers and creating new prospects. The attendees included media, socialites, public figures, influencers, music executives and entrepreneurs. When asked about the Sales Academy’s goal, Brandon said it’s “To inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders.”

Born and raised in New York City, Brandon Medford is not new to Entrepreneurial opportunities and Philanthropy. He earned his Finance degree from Baruch College. He became a Finance Director for Honda before founding PTG 365 (Prices Too Good 365 Days A Year) with some of his friends. One of the country’s most prominent auto brokering companies, their approach to the auto brokering industry is very much digital. They receive a message/order through their social media accounts and finalize the deal there. After that process, they deliver any make and model directly to the client’s door, removing the middleman method and delivering cars directly to the buyer. Due to the unorthodox approach to selling cars, they made clientele from all walks of life and sold 3,000 cars in 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak. His portfolio of clients includes; Kanye West, 50 Cent, T.I, Lil Durk, Mulatto, Rich the Kid & Gucci Mane, to name a few.

Despite the fast progress of the company, PTG 365, at its core, still gives back to the community. For example, they made it possible for low-income families and everyone to buy a car regardless of socio-economic status or credit standing. During an interview with the Social Proof Podcast, Brandon explained how helping clients with low credit standing get a new car by providing them with a systematic payment plan builds more clientele. The company also had its TV Show called Driven, exclusive to Snapchat’s Snap Originals. 

Also a co-founder of a company called Dealer Innovations, Brandon is one of the leading figures in the new wave of creative entrepreneurship and a motivational speaker. He believes that his calling is to teach young people to find themselves. “Be the best you can be no matter what field you’re in,” Medford said in his mini autobiography. He continues to inspire his fellow Entrepreneurs, and his ventures are a pillar for those who want to start working in the auto brokering industry.

Optimising Talent Acquisition: A New Conundrum for Business Recruitment

Despite the fear of a recession in the USA, growing inflation across the globe, and a cost-of-living crisis pummelling the British public, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. And this comes in the form of an increasing employment rate. The US has seen employment rocketing upward and unemployment decrease, reducing fears of an economic crisis. And The Office for National Statistics in the UK calculates that the employment rate has increased by 0.4%. This is lower than before the covid pandemic, but a step in the right direction. Whilst steady employment provides a happier situation all around, it does pose a whole new problem for business: talent acquisition.  

A growing workforce is a rallying positive after the past few years, but does this mean that businesses are employing the right people in suitable positions? The short answer is no. A well-tuned CV or a fabulous interviewee can fool the best of us, especially when there is a whole host of resources available. So how can employers optimise talent recruitment and minimise the wrong individuals accessing inappropriate positions?   

We spoke to a consultant from the Early Careers Company, an innovative recruitment agency that works hands-on with talent and clients. They provided insight into this predicament, “Early Careers has seen an increase in job openings but a lack of high-quality talent to fill them. Either good talent is being poached or not being attracted to the job, leading to even higher attrition rates and open vacancies – the financial strain from this can be felt by all companies.” 

They continued “One way to combat this is to open your hiring pool. Companies often artificially restrict themselves and only hire for relevant experience, screening out good candidates before they even reach an interview. If you can assess your employees to fully understand the characteristics that make them successful, you can open up this pool. Looking for these ‘predictors of success’ can include psychometric testing and internal interviews, combing hundreds of data points to narrow down what makes your people great. Incorporating these into your assessment process and screening for these features instead of experience widens the talent pool and removes biases. Through a clear value proposition that is true to the reality of the company, you can make sure that you attract the people that fulfill these characteristics.” 

“Overall, analysing what the predictors of success within your business might be, and producing a clear and true to reality narrative can help to optimise talent acquisition within the current market.” 

We can understand then that characteristics amenable to a company’s culture are far more vital than specific qualifications. Businesses need to look past ‘impressive’ degrees, and instead discover an individual’s unique set of skills. 

But this is not the only method by which businesses can maximise fruitful talent acquisition and additionally optimise the performance of the talent they already possess. There is no other business that knows this better than Noon Dalton, which specialise in digital outsourcing. We spoke to one of their experts who advised us of the following “With the exceptionally low unemployment rate, teams are spending too much time (around 80%) on low-level, repetitive, flat activities. This eats away at the time that should be spent on profit-earning, core functions. Noon Dalton recommends clients evaluate job activities/functions vs job descriptions.” 

“Doing this will create a road map of how to align with an outsourcing partner that can take over functions that would otherwise distract the client’s local team from said tasks, thus making the company more profitable. It also allows the HR team to focus on hiring the highest value employees for the local presence, rather than searching for positions with higher turnover.” 

“This, in turn, allows HR to get jobs done without losing the staff a few months later to a better entry-level position. The plan we collaborate with our clients on is to delegate the repetitive tasks to virtual teams and use the core team to elevate the business by focusing on creativity, sales, marketing, profit growth, new initiatives, and innovation, resulting in core hires being a much better fit and decreases the chances of successful poaching. 

They concluded by explaining that “Another great advantage to outsourcing non-core functions is that the right outsourcing partner does the hiring and training for you, so businesses can focus all their efforts on finding those “right fit” core players. And, due to the saving in costs for virtual teams, they can offer a more competitive salary, too.” 

Investment into your brand can also help to attract talent. We spoke to Samuel Leach, CEO of Samuel & Co Trading who understands the importance of advertising one’s own business. Leach explained that “money is not the only factor that potential candidates look for, it is more about a work-life balance and offering your employees more than they can get somewhere else.” And this work-life balance is certainly a key component at Samuel & Co, with headquarters equipped with a gym, cinema, and relaxation room. Leach continued “it’s not completely about what the employer can offer though, it’s important to vet talent through an all-encompassing interview process, which will help to separate serious candidates, from the ones who are only attracted to the lifestyle.” 

In a competitive market that is steadily growing whilst unemployment dwindles, talent can be hard to spot within the mass of applications. And then retaining the talent may cause additional issues. Changing the company mindset toward recruitment and hiring on a more individualistic basis may be the way forward. Outsourcing the more menial tasks to an out-of-office team could also free up time for Human Resources to undergo the arduous task of sifting through the employment pool, whilst allowing current employees to perform to higher levels. “True talent and commitment can be difficult to find, therefore the optimisation of the recruitment process is more important than ever” said a spokesperson from Viral.Press. And even more crucial is that once that talent is acquired nurturing these individuals is the key to success.

WALKING IN HIS FATHERS SHOES, LEADS TO “THE DEAD PLACE”

Idris Veliu, is a well-known up and coming Hollywood actor who recently landed the starring role in a major horror film titled “The Dead Place”. Veliu at the young age of 17, has already garnered the interest of many casting directors and Hollywood producers. He has worked with Awkwafina and 50 Cent in several projects and signed a deal to be the worldwide face of Particle, a men’s skin care line. This past year he caught the attention of Oscar winning Producer Steven Spielberg’s people, who asked him to audition for a role in his next film “The Fabelmans”. Veliu was asked to audition for the role that Spielberg based on himself in the film. The competition for the role was tough and Spielberg was only granting auditions to ten actors for the role. Though Veliu ultimately lost the role to actor Gabrielle LaBelle (iZombie, Predator). He also drew the attention of Oscar nominated Actor Liam Neeson (Taken) and his casting team for his new film “Retribution”. Veliu found himself again in a room auditioning for a role with other well-known names in the industry, though this time he made it further down the casting process than when he auditioned for “The Fabelmans”. However, he ultimately lost this role too, when they cast actor  Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water) in the role.

Veliu is new to the industry, but in his first year in the business, he has gone up against actors that have been in the business for almost 10 years. This is something that is unheard of in Hollywood. Usually, actors need to work their way up and possess a lot of credits to get into rooms for these types of a-list auditions. We note that for him to be seriously considered for a role by these influential casting directors and producers is on another level. Just getting into the room to audition for these Hollywood Icons is tough and then on top of that going up against these well-known actors is a lot of pressure on top of that.

Even though he is early on in his career, Veliu has gone up against actors that have had more credits than him, worked in the industry longer than him and been in larger projects than him.  The auditions he has been asked to do put him in casting rooms many times with actors who are well-known and recognizable faces in Hollywood. This to any actor especially to a 17 yrs old actor like Veliu is a very intimidating experience. Actors who lose roles to these actors would be hard on themselves, but Veliu takes it in stride. Every actor always has a process on how they prepare to audition for a role, he prefers to approach his auditions as if he knows he is not getting the role. That way he feels it removes the pressure most would put on themselves in the audition process. Doing this  allows him to be creative with his auditions and push himself as an actor. This process lead him this past year to land his first  recurring role on the British sitcom “Happy Hours”, which currently films in London. Veliu plays the role of Piper on the series, where he and his mates routinely try to get into a pub in London, even though they are underage. The series is being produced by award winning producer Steve Murphy and Darren Kent (Game of Thrones).  

While filming “Happy Hours” he then landed the starring role of Isaac in the upcoming feature horror film, “The Dead Place”. The cast includes well-known A-list horror actors David Howard Thornton (Terrifier, Nightwing: Escalation), Nick Theurer (The Bay), Kathrine Lexi Dali (Transcendence, News of the World) and Suziey Block (High Desert), who will play Veliu’s mom in the film. Steven King once referred to Block as his horror obsession. The Dead Place is about a High School Senior Isaac (Veliu) who is a tough kid, but spirits of the dead he sees on a daily basis cause him to act strange. This ultimately draws him taunting at school by his classmates. Veliu said he was drawn to the role of Isaac, because it was similar to situations he was going through in his daily life at school. He also wants to bring attention to bullying in general for others similar to him that go through it daily at school.

Veliu has done all of this while still attending High School and applying to college. Most actors his age would crumble under this amount of immense pressure, but hard work was instilled in him at an early age. Veliu is the son of immigrants from Albania, he is proud of his heritage especially of his father who fought and struggled for him to have a better life in the United States than he had back in Albania. His father was originally an illegal immigrant once deported, he fought to come back to the US as he knew it would be a better life for his children here. Veliu’s dad illegally crossed into the US via the Rio Grande using a Coyote, much like those stories we hear about everyday on our news channels. Once here he tried to make a life for his family, they lived in low income rental apartments up until his forced deportation back to Albania. After his deportation, he fought to get back here legally, which was eventually granted by the US immigration services and he then earned his US citizenship. When Veliu’s father was deported, his mother who was pregnant with him at the time, had to make a huge sacrifice. Even though she herself was a US citizen, she decided 5 weeks after Idris was born to fly back to Albania, so she could be with her husband. She knew taking her son on a plane just after his birth was risky, but she wanted to be with her husband, the love of her life. She did this unknowing, whether her husband would ever be granted the right to come back to the US and whether she would ever see her family and country ever again. Eventually, his father was granted citizenship and they returned. His parents started a successful contracting business, which has grown over the years and provided employment for a number of US workers.

Veliu is very proud of his family’s history and struggles as everything was not always glamorous or easy for him. English is not his first language, but he has mastered it and become a regular American teenager. Veliu has said: “People see the glamor in what I do but they don’t see the many hours and days it takes to produce something they see for just a few minutes.” He gets his work ethic from his father, who’s original dream, believe it or not, was to be an actor and entertainer like his son. However, for Veliu’s father it would not be the case, he now gets to live out his dream through his son. We can see that Veliu gets his strength and determination from his father. Veliu has said: “Acting is my passion, something inside me drives me to do this, which I think was the same passion handed down to me from my father.” Though his dad never pushed him into acting, he feels a sense of responsibility to his dad to live out that dream his father could never have.

The two of them are very close, inseparable, Veliu is always helping his dad on the work sites when not on set. Their closeness was demonstrated recently, when his father put his work on hold and was there to see his son walk the red carpet at Vogue fashion week in Miami. His father was the one who coached him and drove him to each of his events during Vogue fashion week. Idris’s mom said: “My husband is a proud man, I have hardly ever seen him cry or even tear up, though recently, I saw him tear up when his son walked at Vogue in Miami.” The family is what we hear everyday sold to us as the American dream, Idris and his family are proof that the dream still exists.
