Polina Nioly: “Being an Immigrant Gave Me Determination and Courage”

Polina Nioly, owner of the marketing agency Nioly Media Group, is a master of branding, communication and transformation. When it comes to case studies, her best could arguably be herself. In the span of just a year and a half, Nioly morphed from a young immigrant to a millionaire businesswoman in New York.

Hello, Polina! Your story reads like a fairytale. You came to a foreign country so young and somehow, beat the odds to achieve massive success. How did you do it?

My life is no fairytale. Anyone from my inner circle or anyone who has read my blogs from the very beginning would confirm that. I am the creator of my own life and there is no magic. Instead, I see my life as a structured system of daily steps to achieve my goals.

I was born in a very small town in Russia to a poor family. It was just the three of us: my mother, myself and my younger brother. We constantly moved, lived in between home repairs, and I never had a room to myself while growing up. Because of that, I was always embarrassed to invite my friends over and had no choice but to come up with different excuses. 

After graduating high school, I got a scholarship to a university in St. Petersburg to study Sociology. I finally had my own room, even though it was old and infested with cockroaches and I had to share the kitchen and shower with roommates.

I realized that I needed to take charge of my financial future and I started by getting a part-time job as a waitress. I remember how back then, my only dream was being able to buy a cheap studio apartment. In four years, thanks to a lot of hard work, I managed to purchase an apartment for my mother and brother, and later, a multi-bedroom apartment in New York for myself.

The main turning point for me was an exchange trip to the US, where I was exposed to a completely new way of life for the first time. At that moment, I realized I wanted this kind of life, too! I wanted to be able to go to restaurants, not for a special occasion, but just to casually have lunch. I wanted to be able to freely walk into a store and buy a new iPhone—or anything else—for myself or my loved ones without thinking about the price. These realizations became my main motivation to continue taking action and radically change my life.

You left Russia in 2019, opened your first company, Nioly LLC, in the US in 2020. Two short years later, opened your own agency, Nioly Media Group.  How have you achieved such big, complex goals so quickly?

I don’t believe in “big and complex goals.” To me, all goals are the same in terms of implementation. I just break them down into sub-goals and everyday, I take at least a small step to achieve each one. Along the way, if I happen to lack a certain expertise or skill set, I hire specialists to help me fill in the gaps. This way, I don’t get stuck.

 Today, there are many celebrity musicians among your clients. How did Nioly Media Group win their trust? 

In the beginning of building my business, I would do cold outreach to foreign bloggers. At that time, my own blog was growing like crazy and I had record-breaking numbers, so attracting those clients came relatively easily. At the end of 2021, I was invited to Richard Branson’s island and met the guys from One Republic. I checked out their Instagram account and was shocked to see that they had fewer followers than I did. I thought to myself, “This is a world-famous band, how is this even possible?” Immediately, I realized that there was a gap I could fill. I contacted all of my musician friends and offered to take them on as marketing clients for a trial run. Once my first music client started taking off, people began to notice. At that point, I stopped looking for clients because I was receiving so much inbound business, including world-famous musicians, actors and celebrities.

You have a 10-minute rule. What is it?

My team knows that if I have a cool idea, we start working on it within ten minutes, no later. This is my fail-safe principle. I believe that bold ideas should be executed this way and this way only. Otherwise, they are simply postponed and oftentimes not carried out at all. I don’t like doing this to my ideas.

I have another principle that became very valuable for the company and it is that the words “no” and “impossible” are not part of our vocabulary. While other teams shy away from difficult projects, we love a challenge. My team is fueled by problem solving, breaking down complex issues and taking decisive action. I believe this is why we now have a long list of clients and partners who are willing to wait months to start working with us.

I have the same principles and values ​​for my company as I do for my own life. They were my guiding light when I was still in Russia, dreaming of a better life, and they have continued to serve me while building a successful business in the US. Nowadays, it gives me great satisfaction to share my ideas and help my clients achieve the same results.

 There is a lot of talent hidden in the Middle East, and especially in terms of Arab athletes in the sport, we need to bring more of this talent forward to show younger kids that it is possible to make it to the UFC. “For me now, I have a voice for the voiceless, there aren’t a lot of Palestinian athletes that have a stage or platform where they can carry the flag,” Al Hanini said. “Especially, during these times, I need to carry that flag higher than ever and show the world that we do exist, that we are a country, and there are real people there.” The lack of representation of Arabs has always been a concerning factor. And, with coming together, we need to collectively support Arab in different career paths within media. To continue showing our support.

In fact, according to Al Hanini, carrying the flag to his fights is important because it is a reminder to him of his identity and the cause he supports. Through his action and voice, he aims to use his voice for his people and hopes to “keep shining a light on that, raising their morale, raising their hearts, I’m going to do whatever I can,” he said.

New York Premises Liability Laws: Learn About Actual Notice and Constructive Notice

Actual notice requires that a property owner be aware of a dangerous condition on their property. Constructive notice is when a property owner should have known about the hazardous condition even though they were unaware. 

Landlords play a big part in premises liability cases in New York. This includes inspecting properties for dangerous situations or conditions and taking steps to ensure people’s safety. Actual notice

Constructive notice

In New York, a person injured on someone’s property has a right to recover damages. This includes not just the owner of the property itself but anyone who has control over it. However, there are some situations where you might not be able to recover damages if you were injured on someone else’s property. One of these is called “constructive notice.”

Constructive notice means that even though you were unaware of the dangerous condition that caused your injury, the owner or occupier knew about it and failed to take reasonable steps to prevent it from happening. The law requires them to keep their premises safe for people who visit them.

For example, imagine someone was injured on your property because of a broken step in front of your building. You did not know there was a dangerous condition on your property, but you should have known because there were yellow markings on all other steps in front of the building. Therefore, constructive notice can be shown by showing that the plaintiff did not see any yellow markings on their way to getting injured and therefore did not realize there was anything wrong with this step.

In summary, it will be essential to know that if you are considering entering someone’s property, you must take reasonable steps to ensure it is reasonably safe. If you are invited onto someone’s property, make sure that the person inviting you is in a position to notify the property owner of any dangerous conditions.

Over the years, generations have witnessed the transformation of style and fashion, with fashion designers incorporating their ideals into collections each season; the results – unique, meaningful, and sometimes, groundbreaking.  Eponymous fashion line Kolja Annussek, rightfully named after its Founder and Designer, channels the visionary’s experience of his life   into his capsule Season 2 Collection.

Raised in Europe, Kolja was enamored with the ins and outs of American culture. From the sporting industry to the hip-hop scene and eventually to fashion, there was a certain je nais se quois about these influences in America that he couldn’t seem to shake from his conscience. Fast forward several years, Kolja found himself in the grit of the finance industry, unfulfilled with its lack of creativity and the mundane lifestyle. He never forgot the influences from days past and the passion that lived inside of him yearning to be celebrated. On a whim, Kolja left his corporate job to pursue an entrepreneurial career for himself, and since then has never looked back.

Kolja Annussek first debuted in the fashion world with an innovative interpretation of modern streetwear. Aiming to create distinctive luxury pieces, he used exotic python leather as a core design accent to his premiere quality tops.  The result was a collection of 6 highly exclusive t-shirt designs. It is not only the quality of materials and unique designs that set the collection apart.  The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and better yet the sheer passion woven into each piece can be seen and felt in each garment alike. According to Kolja, the clothes he produces are not for everyone, they are for those who want to stand out, for those who appreciate the art of his story, and for those who believe in the power within themselves to go after what they are passionate about.

With the sensational success of the first collection, Kolja Annussek has channeled his energy into creating a second collection that continues to reflect his vision. In debuting Season 2, Kolja wants to be clear – this is not just any ordinary streetwear brand; this is couture-level streetwear. The ability to go beyond the average apparel on the market and introduce something special remains a pillar of the brand’s identity. Building on the design principles of his first collection, the latest assortment of garments are a bit edgier and fashion-forward. For the second collection, he was inspired by his old days as a semi-professional football player, what the American spirit means to him and how it had influenced and shaped him as a person. He chose to use elements from the nature of the football game, which can be seen in the block style letters and structured shoulders in key pieces of the collection. Further taking elements from the rugged essence of football and elevating them into a top-tier garment, full leather cargo pants and a cropped leather accented hoodie attract a distinct celebration of how Kolja marries the art of streetwear with an American influence.

And where better to shoot the debut looks for the launch of the second collection than on the streets of NYC? For the next step in building his brand, Kolja traveled with fashion photographer Alessandro Amarante to New York City to shoot an editorial of his new collection with top models Damaris Barkley, Anastasia Kolganova and Allie Fosheim. Evolving from a collection of 6 t-shirts, the second collection makes a statement with entire outfits, including hoodies, pants, t-shirts as well as jackets and custom hardware.

Season 2 and its corresponding imagery represent a vision that has come full circle, which is expected to be dropped this winter at koljaannussek.com.

Anne-Krystel Raises People’s Confidence Through Affordable Luxury Perfume

The right perfume has the power to make an impression and express a person’s personality. But, unfortunately, quality perfumes can be tough to find and are often outside people’s budget range. However, one entrepreneur and perfume enthusiast, Anne-Krystel Goyer, hopes to make high-quality perfumes more accessible and affordable.

Together with a group of certified perfumers in Provence, Anne-Krystel developed her first Extrait de Parfum called AnneKrystel8. Extrait de Parfum essentially does not contain any additional water, like other types of fragrances, so it has better quality and is more long-lasting. According to her, each note in the olfactory pyramid of this perfume for women corresponds to a quality of the ideal woman.

Selling perfume is more than just a business to Anne-Krystel; it is also a form of activism. She wants to deepen people’s knowledge of perfumes to add value for her clients. 

Furthermore, she wants perfume users and potential clients to be aware that there are four different types of perfumes: Extrait de Parfum, also known as “perfume,” Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and Eau de Cologne. Because most people mistakenly believe they are wearing perfume when they are wearing Eau de Parfum and not actual perfume, she calls her creations “Extrait de Parfum” to make it simpler, more distinct, and, most importantly, to avoid confusion.

Anne-Krystel developed the AK47 as a male Extrait de Parfum. After that, she also started selling cosmetics like moisturizers, oils, masks, and serums. As Anne-Krystel expands her network and widens her reach, she wants to offer her products to those who enjoy fragrance and cosmetics. Anne-Krystel stated in an interview, “I want people to understand the differences in perfumery and I want prospective customers to comprehend why I offer high-quality products at the lowest possible cost.”

One of the most distinctive aspects of her brand is the price. While major fashion houses charge approximately $150 for 7 milliliters and $700 for 50 milliliters of Extrait de Parfum, she sells a travel-sized bottle of her perfume for only 19 dollars.

Anne-Krystel studied fashion for a few years, later leading her to the desire to make perfume. With all the dedication she has poured into every bottle of her fragrances, she hopes those who use them experience calm and self-assurance. She knows how intensely scents can positively affect one’s self-esteem, which is why she works hard to create scents that make women and men feel confident. To Anne-Krystel, her perfumes are not just an accessory but a way to empower individuals, and she hopes to be successful in bringing happiness to those who wear them.

The perfume expert makes a point to play a positive role in the community, supporting the David Lynch Foundation to give back to those in need. This charity works to change lives by giving the most vulnerable access to the evidence-based transcendental meditation (TM) technique, a tool for empowerment and healing.
