As the springtime winds down and summer is right around the corner, everyone is in search of a new artist to add to their Summer playlists and bring some much-needed energy to the next few months. As states reopen and people begin grouping up into social gatherings this summer seems to be a special one. In our search for new hot artists coming out of California, we stumbled across an extremely talented young songwriter from the Bay Area. He goes by the name, Kaarmaa. Kaarmaa has displayed an incredible aptitude for success in the music industry with his single, “Stay”.
Kaarmaa released his first single, “Influence” back on Soundcloud a year ago, followed up by his debut project titled “Inst!nct”. The project was made to help people deal with uncertain times and provide hope to those in need. Kaarmaa has now decided to branch out into the world of mainstream streaming services. Seeing quick success on Spotify, his new single has already amassed a ton of engagement, and he doesn’t plan on stopping here. Having been writing music for over 6 years, Kaarmaa has recently begun taking his art very seriously, and will be dropping more music for his fans very soon.
The Bay Area has a very diverse arsenal of artists despite being globally well known for its Hip-Hop and rap scene. Kaarmaa reflects this diversity with his versatility. Even having only released one track onto the main streaming platforms, in the four minutes and ten-second record, he brings so many textures and tempos to the table. Displaying his ability to rap and sing, he also shows that he has a good ear for mixing and what needs to be done to his voice, specifically to bring out the best version of himself. It is rare for artists who have only been releasing music one year to understand the nuances of the art.
It is not only Hip-Hop and rap that is popular in the Bay Area, although I’m sure many would argue this is the most known genre that the public sees come out of the area. It is wonderful to see a melding of multiple sounds and genres and Kaarmaa does this extremely well. He shows character by bringing elements from different sounds and merging them into one cohesive vibe. In the modern era of music, this has been happening a lot, and I think it blurs the lines of the old-school way that genres typically worked. Anything that helps break people out of the boxes that are made by critics and outside influencers is good for art in general.
If you are looking for a new artist to add to your Spotify playlists for the Summer, I suggest you go give “Stay” by Kaarmaa a listen. Currently sitting at over 6,000 monthly listeners, the young artist from the Bay Area is making his first step into the commercial music industry; timing is always one of the greatest factors in life. Listen to him on Spotify and follow him on social media to keep up with all things Kaarmaa.
