“A bad day for your ego is a great day for your soul”. There is a reason the term ego is almost always used with a negative connotation attached to it. Time and time again, there are stories told throughout history of men blindly crumbling empires, erecting civilizations, and selfishly leading arbitrary wars because of it. While it is not a lesson that can be easily learned, it can surely be easily applied to any part of life, both personally and professionally. Tech mogul Steven Hooley is here to share his strife with the pitfalls of ego.
Steven Hooley is a seasoned tech and business consultant who in only a few short years in the industry, has been able to earn dozens of individual accolades between a dozen other different industries. As a child, Steven was also always considered to be one of the most intelligent of his class, even being sometimes described as a savant in some ways. His constant radical achievements and propensity to go the extra mile in everything he did are what Steven believes led to him having a fiery ego early in life.
Steven believes that while ego can drive a sense of competitiveness which can then drive oneself to become motivated to innovate and push further in the field, Steven is a much bigger proponent that ego is so much more dangerous than what it is worth. A mentor of Steven’s once told him that “If it costs you your peace, it’s too expensive”. Being wrought with ego can not only hold you back on the business end but it will also hold you back emotionally.
Through hard work and drill, Steven overcomes the impersonate dread that his inflated ego brought upon him during his initial years in business. “Find what you’re weak at, and work on it. Which is hard for a lot of people, especially when they have big egos. But you’ve got to do it. It will make a big difference.” Steven urges.
Steven Hooley has completely bypassed his own ego through experience as well as with the help of a cherished mentor. It may be safe to say that Steven holds an understanding of the destructive effects of operating under only pure ego very close to himself and is eager to share these values with others that have come under his wing as a mentor.
