God is on the side of the oppressed and abused (Psalm 56). The scriptures clearly express God’s desire for a dramatic transformation of society for those who are burdened, marginalised, or unjustly treated (Luke 4:18-21; Proverbs 14:31; Matthew 9:13; Mark 3:4-5).

In the midst of darkness, a flicker of hope can seem like a distant dream, especially when ensnared in the web of narcissistic abuse. This form of emotional exploitation dismantles one’s sense of self, leaving behind a trail of doubt, fear, and confusion. My story is not unique, but it is mine – a tale woven with threads of manipulation and resilience, despair and liberation.

Narcissistic abuse is an insidious beast. It camouflages itself in grand gestures of affection and promises of eternal companionship, only to morph into a cycle of devaluation and discard that leaves its victims gasping for air amidst the ruins of their shattered self-esteem. The perpetrator, cloaked in charm and empathy in public view, becomes an entirely different entity behind closed doors – one capable of profound psychological violence.

My descent into this abyss began innocuously enough. I met him during a time when my life seemed to be an embodiment of dreams realized. His arrival was unremarkable; yet, within days he became my world – professing love, envisaging a future together. This rapid escalation is hallmark ‘love bombing,’ a strategy employed by abusers to ensnare their victims in a web too complex to easily escape.

The early days were intoxicating. I felt seen, understood on levels profound and previously unexplored. Our shared vulnerabilities drew me closer to him; his troubled past evoked my sympathy, nurturing instincts I didn’t know possessed such intensity. But as our relationship progressed from courtship to cohabitation and eventually marriage, the facade began to crumble.

The transformation was gradual yet relentless. The once attentive partner turned distant; affection gave way to indifference or outright contempt. My attempts at communication spiraled into arguments that twisted my words beyond recognition until I found myself apologizing for grievances unknown.

This cycle repeated endlessly – idealization followed by devaluation and discard before being reeled back in with promises of change that never materialized. Each iteration left deeper scars on my psyche until I no longer recognized the person staring back at me from the mirror.

Amidst this turmoil stood unwavering faith; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,” Luke 4:18-19 reads, “because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor…to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” These words became both anchor and compass as I navigated through the stormiest waters.

I sacrificed everything – my happiness, peace, even physical safety – on the altar of this toxic relationship under the misguided belief that love could conquer all; that somehow my affection could redeem him from his demons.

But narcissistic abuse isn’t rooted in lack but excess – an excessive need for control born out of deep-seated insecurity masked by grandiosity. No amount of love or sacrifice can fill this void because it is endless by design.

Acknowledging this truth was my first step towards emancipation; recognizing patterns within our interactions illuminated paths previously obscured by manipulation and gaslighting tactics designed to erode trust in one’s perceptions.

Extraction from such entanglements is neither swift nor painless; it demands strength you’re convinced you’ve lost and faith seemingly beyond reach. Yet it’s precisely here – at this nexus between despair and determination – where transformation begins.

Supported by a steadfast belief echoed through Isaiah 53:5 – “By His stripes we are healed” – I embarked on this arduous journey towards recovery propelled by divine assurance that redemption lay ahead despite current afflictions.

Recovery demanded confronting truths long buried beneath layers of denial; it involved untangling knots so intricately tied they seemed part of my very essence—relearning self-love after years conditioned into self-loathing necessitated patience kindness directed inwardly first before extending outwardly again without fear exploitation or betrayal lingering shadows past experiences cast across present moments eager for renewal unburdened past traumas’ weighty legacy.

Today stands testament resilience human spirit’s capacity overcome even darkest adversities emerge not merely intact but invigorated renewed purpose clarity vision once clouded doubts fears now dispelled light newfound understanding compassion not just others similarly afflicted but oneself having traversed fiery pits emerged side stronger wiser compassionate beings capable offering sanctuary solace others journeying along similar paths seeking refuge understanding acceptance.

AV King Hamilton’s GoodSource Artist Collective Sets the Stage for a Revolution

On a clear October afternoon, AlanVondetrick King Hamilton bounces–no, floats–about his quaint Lake Elsinore, California home with a sort of lucent confidence and reposeful fluidity that surely comes from his certainty in his purpose from God. A beat of his own production can be heard looping soothingly in the background, the sound of his signature trumpet humming between the walls. A nostalgic warmth accompanies the living space in the form of vintage furniture pieces and aged dark wood cabinets–no doubt the home’s original wood, left untouched. Noticeably, there is not much else to be found in the unconventionally minimalistic abode, but conventionality does not know much of a home in AV King Hamilton’s world. 

Within the past 5 years, the 25-year-old musician founded GoodSource Artist Collective and has been on a clear mission ever since. “It’s the kingdom, it’s the tribe, it’s the ministry,” says AV King, “a team of artists creating for the creator, creating for love, creating for the biggest purpose.”

Now washing away fruit and vegetable residue from the components of his freshly-used juicer, AV King proudly notes the three main departments of GoodSource Art.: “music, media, and athletics.” In addition to an impressive array of vocalists, producers, and live instrumentalists, the GoodSource Art. family extends out into the realms of basketball and skateboarding. A conscious dynamic of love pervades the regularly occurring hoop and skate sessions which are organized within “the tribe” (as AV often refers to the collective). Its media department consists of content creators: photographers, videographers, and editors–a crucial team for up-and-coming artists and athletes rising in the era of social media. GoodSource Art. is set for its second release in a series of short skateboarding-films, with its first full-length skate film coming soon.

So then, what is the common denominator among these talents from different backgrounds and walks of life? They’re “like-minded, [they] want to build, [and their] hearts are in the right place, says AV. Despite having gathered quite the expansive and versatile team, it’s clear that none of AV King’s focus has diverted–nor has his vision diminished–along the way.

It was during the 4th grade that young AV King Hamilton was met with the reality that he was a musician. “When I picked up that trumpet and I realized how much I loved it . . . and how natural it came, it was never any question . . . I just never put it down,” he reminisces. Though AV’s very first dream was to play for the NBA (fueled by his very same passion for basketball that burns strongly today), he reveals that his dream today is… well, he’s living it. “Imagine someone’s like, ‘My dream is to have a tree,’ [then] it sprouts and they’ve got a little tree. I’m already living my dream; now the tree’s gonna keep on growing.” His joy is palpable as he continues, “There’s gonna be more branches, more birds, [and more] bees on the tree.” 

GoodSource Art.’s presence expands far beyond Lake Elsinore, gracing luxurious scenes in Malibu, Santa Monica, and Wine Country. The tribe has even made its mark out in Northern California locales such as San Francisco, where the collective’s saxophonist, Chris Panameno, had accompanied AV King to perform at a private venue alongside an ensemble of some of the world’s most accomplished musicians and producers, 1500 or Nothin’ (the ensemble has written, produced, and provided instrumentals to the likes of Adele, Silk Sonic, Snoop Dog, and Justin Bieber). The GoodSource Art. live band dazzles audiences with spirit-driven shows and nights of music, reaching new and familiar ears alike. In one of their most recent endeavors, Goodsource Art. found itself at Red Bull Records, Los Angeles, where the music and media departments worked in tandem with one of their very own, Jay Millian, on his upcoming record. Millian dropped his single “Baby” back in May, which NBA 2K23 had featured as part of its ‘Season 7’ soundtrack (that very same videogame soundtrack features AV King’s trumpet on “Mike Jackson Effect” by Jordan Lyles). It is apparent through his smooth-flowing lyrics that glide through his self-produced tracks that talent is in no short supply for the rising artist originating from Long Beach, California. 

Back home in Lake Elsinore, AV King Hamilton plants his roots in the uplifting of his community. Through GoodSource Art., he organizes local art shows (both musical and visual) in partnership with local businesses, and free basketball training sessions for the youth and other striving athletes. In conjunction with Goodsource Art.’s basketball department, the community also sees its fair share of 5 vs. 5 matches and takeovers of local gyms–and soon, parks. Although, today, GoodSource Art. has also branched out into the basketball scenes of Venice Beach (which has become quite the enthralling tourist attraction) and Santa Monica.

 Five years ago, as far as AV King Hamilton was concerned, the vision was clear: “A team of creators that love God; helping each other, motivating each other, growing together, making the dreams happen.” Curious it is, then, what could possibly be the driving force that fuels such resolute vision and inspired momentum from GoodSource Artist Collective and its founder. Perhaps the answer lies in what has joyfully become one of AV’s most used catchphrases: “The Holy Spirit does it.”

“As I look back, it was The Holy Spirit,” AV King states in retrospect. “To think about something like this is wild, but it just felt right and I knew what the mission was.” So, what will GoodSource Artist Collective look like in five years?

uhoo! Takes an Innovative Approach to Empowering New Yorkers with Their Own Location Data

The team behind the new consumer app, uhoo!, is taking a new approach to a problem every New Yorker knows intimately: how to find the right place to go in an overwhelming sea of optionality. The app utilizes background location matching to capture the places a user visits automatically, as opposed to asking the user to manually maintain lists in Google Maps, a notes app, or other manual recommendation apps.

After capturing a visit to a location, uhoo! prompts the user with one simple question delivered via push notification: hit or miss. The idea being to remove as much friction as possible, but still capture the necessary sentiment data in a ‘digital life log’.

Today, most people are simply consumers of ratings and reviews, but uhoo! makes it drop dead simple for users to give their opinion. The combination of visit-frequency plus sentiment data fuels a recommendation platform where places are promoted based on their popularity within a user’s network.

But that’s just the start for uhoo! The next big feature release, expected this month, brings AI to the forefront, enabling users to ask unstructured questions in a chat-gpt format to query their network data for recommendations.

Examples of questions you’ll be able to ask uhoo! :

  • Find a sushi spot my friends like in the West Village
  • Find a sushi spot that John has been to in the West Village
  • Find a sushi spot trending on TikTok, that my friends like, and is good for a date

 

Ultimately, uhoo! will leverage data from the internet (tiktok, infatuation etc), overlay a user’s friends’ real-world interactions, influenced by their frequency of patronage and their take on hit or miss to find the single match for whatever you’re looking for.

uhoo! Unveiled

uhoo! cuts to the chase. When signing up, you’re asked to turn on background location tracking right out the gates. By doing so, they enable all users to experience the utility of the product within the first day.

As you move throughout the city, the app sends push notifications to let you know they’ve captured your visit to a location and to prompt you to rate it: hit or miss. If you have friends that have visited that location and rated it, they’ll let you know that too. Once you rate a location, you get to see what your friends rated it. You also receive a notification when a friend rates a place you’ve been to, so you can compare your ratings. With minimal effort and this fun social pull, you build a searchable collection of your spots around the world.

The core way to interact with friends in the app is by sending them “uhoos” or little nudges to try out new places. In the future, the founders say they’re going to build out ways for users to discover places collaboratively, to reduce friction behind the age-old question asked in the group chat:  “Where should we go?”

This is start-up number two for founder-duo David Wallach and Josh Richardson. When asked why go at it again, Josh said “We are obsessed with building products that should exist today, but don’t, and will feel obvious when they do. Turning a fun idea that our friends love into a scalable and investable business on the back of unique technology is the really exciting part.”

In regards to inspiration, he added “We were initially inspired by Zenly, a real-time location app that transformed background location tracking from a scary, hidden thing to a super useful tool for consumers,” and notes “bringing location-matching tech together with AI allows us to create a bunch of value for the consumer by enabling them to draw utility from their own data.”

The Bigger Picture

Potentially surprisingly, the team behind uhoo! isn’t looking to replace Google Maps or Yelp. “In the medium term, Google Maps will always be the suggested place to go for directions and breadth of business proximity data” says Josh “We don’t want to compete with them on that, we want to carve out a distinct use case around search. Our differentiator will be our data. We want to be the first place a user goes when they want to better understand where they’ve been and where their network is going.”

AI search is quickly becoming a saturated market and the tools themselves seem to lose differentiation every week. However, the data that feeds these AI platforms can be a powerful differentiator. And that’s the end goal for uhoo! To build a new AI search engine that uses proprietary, user-greenlighted data to empower the users themselves.

Sooner rather than later, you’ll be able to ask uhoo! some really cool prompts like:

  • Create a list of all the dancy bars I liked in Medellin and send it to John
