What would you say is the one of the issues that company’s face hiring new salespeople? 

Andy – The companies would say sourcing good candidates. I say it’s understanding what the job really is and making sure they get the right person since 73% of new hires say the job was misrepresented. 

In your opinion how important is it for a corporation to have CRM software in place to prioritize leads and develop marketing campaigns?

Andy – CRM is important but too often key stakeholders are missing in determining the requirements and purpose of a CRM. Is it marketing campaigns, lead management, deal management, forecasting or something else? If you get the requirements correct, CRM is powerful. Unfortunately, an evaluation from MIT found that 55 to 75 percent of companies fell short of their expected ROI from their CRM systems

Describe your company’s culture. As a sales guru, how did you encourage your team to get involved?

Andy – that’s a great question but I’m not sure it’s a fair question. All my folks have 20 – 25 years of experience and are highly motivated. Think of a law firm where everyone is a senior partner and is responsible for their personal production. Even though we are all hard charges, we have great relationships, lots of collaboration and help each other on deals and accounts.

How would you manage critical recognition for top salespeople, support staff and most improved sales performances?

Andy – Interesting question. The world of positive psychology has known this answer for years but its never made it to the business word. Books like, “Have A New Kid By Friday ” or the TV series by the Dog Whisperer called “Better Human, Better Dog” stress that it’s the parents, dog owner or in this case the sales manager that makes the difference! More emphasis on recognizing and rewarding the positive and what is going right. We also need to do it more frequently. 

What are some examples of how you got to know members of your team well enough to assign priorities to sales leads effectively?

Andy – Let me answer that with what sales managers should be doing. They should know what the personal goals are for each of their salespeople and they link those goals to sales performance. Are they saving for their kid’s education, money to help their parents, a vacation home or something else? Then how much more commission do they need to make to reach those goals? As for lead assignment do you want to assign by rep most likely to close it, or territory/market or something else?

The Jewish High Holy Days are quickly approaching with Rosh Hashanah the first of several important days. It begins at sunset on Sunday, September 25 and ends at nightfall on Tuesday, September 27.

The New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is a time for reflection and renewal for all of humanity, reaffirming every person’s capacity to bring light. The world is full of anxiety and fear, but there is a renewed possibility for each of us to bring in the light. This is a time for all faiths to come together to bring more light into the world.

Who couldn’t use a little hope right now, particularly considering what we’ve been through over the past couple of years? This is a time of personal reflection, being aware of past mistakes, inner renewal, transformation, and setting good intentions for the year to come. it’s a time for creating a better version of yourself and what that would entail.

Here are some tips anyone of any faith can use to embrace our current world situation and find ways to inspire yourself and others:

Understand, appreciate, and actively partake in Rosh Hashanah. The holidays are not meant to be only a celebration but an opportunity for reflection and growth. Rosh Hashanah signifies the creation of humanity and God’s renewal of his belief that each of us can be an ambassador for spreading light and goodness in the world. Rather than wait for a crisis or illness to deeply evaluate the purpose of our lives, we are given a gift, like George Bailey, in It’s a Wonderful Life, to imagine a world without us and a renewed opportunity to reinvest our lives with even greater meaning and impact. 

Grief and loss are a part of life. Whether it is a family member or the head of commonwealth such as Queen Elizabeth II, loss and grief will come. One of the most important ideas in the holiday season is investing in the future and living for eternity. We reflect on our mortality but also take comfort in knowing that when we lead lives of generosity, courage, and kindness, we instill our values across generations and inspire our children and grandchildren to be bearers of hope and light. We mourn the loss this past year of great people, but we can also focus on not lamenting the darkness but increasing the light. Rosh Hashanah challenges us to harness moments of grief to infuse greater goodness in the world.

The importance of pausing for reflection by reverse engineering your day, your week, and your life. New Intriguing Book I Did It   – The True Story of Gina Champion Cain The Largest Woman-Led Ponzi Scheme in U.S. History

I Did It is the new captivating book detailing the story of Gina Champion-Cain, the San Diego woman who was behind the largest woman-led Ponzi scheme in US history of over $350 million dollars. Her history is compelling as she was considered an icon in her hometown of San Diego, California. She had what most people thought was an amazing career. She stood out of the crowd with her beauty, charm and charisma. Her ventures included, real estate, retail and restaurants as well as a guest economics commentator for the San Diego Union Tribune. Champion-Cain also served on non- profit and corporate boards.

Her exploits included a multitude of participants such as hedge funds, banks, and small-time crooks, all fueled by greed, stupidity, and a keen desire to look the other way. Even when they were looking in the right direction, all of these people and entities saw nothing. Gina was the Penn and Teller of misdirection, acting with caring behavior to other people (while bilking her investors), creating philanthropic endeavors and single-mindedly pursuing her dream of building an empire, taking it public, and cashing out all the investors. It’s a story that sounds scripted for a feature film!

She even deceived the city of San Diego as they honored her with a Gina Champion-Cain Day. Those in power in San Diego had no clue of her sham.

The sad truth is that all of her riches and celebrity lifestyle was a house of cards funded with money from massive financial fraud. 

The day her life came crumbling down was August 2019 when her seven-year program of selling phony liquor license loans came to an end. The SEC, the US Attorney’s Office, and the FBI filed suit and shut it down. Game over for Gina Champion- Cain.

Gina Champion -Cain plead guilty on March 31, 2021, she admitted that she swindled more than $350 million from investors promising to use their money to make loans to business owners who were attempting to acquire California liquor licenses.  Cain received a lengthy sentence of 15 years.  Her husband of many years has filed in the courts for a divorce.

The authors of this compelling book are Barbara Bry and Neil Senturia.

Neil Senturia is a San Diego entrepreneur and venture capitalist who writes a weekly award-winning business column for the San Diego Union-Tribune (I’m There for You Baby, The Entrepreneur’s Guide to the Galaxy.) He has known Gina Champion-Cain for more than 20 years.   Barbara Bry, is a Harvard MBA and is an entrepreneur who was a business writer for the Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times, and has served on the San Diego City Council

“It was extraordinary that the Ponzi scheme lasted so wrong, Gina was a master at making people happy and feeling special even though there were warning signs along the way.  Gina’s first sentence to Neil was, “I know a Ponzi scheme can never work.”  Gina was a conflicted woman who had the power to charm the world, and at the same time was also clearly aware that the liquor license program was a full-on fraud, “Barbara Bry.

Barbara Bry shared more information in this Q and A.

Q:  Can you share two or three takeaways from the book I Did It- that the reader will learn about Gina? 

 Barbara:  Readers will get the inner workings of the Ponzi scheme including Gina’s life story and her point-of-view on why she started the Ponzi scheme, how sophisticated investors were duped, and finally, how a whistle blower finally stopped the madness.  We all deal with the gap between what we appear to be or how we want to be perceived—and what we really are.  How you deal with that is the challenge.  This book is Gina’s story.

Q:   When was the first time you met Gina Champion- Cain and your reaction after meeting her and were there any red flags?

Barbara:  Neil was a real estate developer in the 1990s and knew Gina from that world.  No flags.  Both Neil and Barbara knew her socially, they ate at her restaurants and saw her at community events.  They knew nothing about the Ponzi scheme until the SEC announced that it shut it down in August 2019.

Q: How did you both get the opportunity to interview her for this book?

Barbara:  Neil writes a weekly business column for the San Diego Union-Tribune.  In February 2020 (6 months after she was charged by the SEC), Gina emailed Neil that she liked one of his columns, and they met for coffee.  Eventually, she agreed to share her story with Neil.  

She receives no compensation from the book.

 Q: What are her days like in Prison?

Barbara: Gina Champion- Cain has taken paralegal classes, she teaches women who want to complete their high school degree, and she also teaches in the culinary arts program.

 Q: Can you share any new ‘ updates’ to the story?

Barbara:  It looks like the investors will get over 90% of their money back from Chicago Title which held the “escrows” for the phony liquor licenses.  So far, Chicago Title has paid out over $135 million.  There are also claw backs from the promoters and investors who profited.  It is called “MIMO,” money in, money out.  It is unbelievable, and maybe never in history, for the investors in a Ponzi scheme to get that much money back.  The final accounting is almost done, but the bottom is that the total loss was $183 million, and it appears that about $179 million is coming back to the investors.

When contaminants end up in water supplies and bodies of water, it not only harms the environment. It can also lead to people developing numerous severe health problems.

Cases of Water Contamination in the U.S.

Although control and treatment methods are widely used throughout the United States to help prevent water contamination and state and federal regulations are in place to ensure water quality is high, water contamination is still an ongoing problem.

For example, notable cases of water contamination not only include historical incidents like the case of the Woburn, Massachusetts water contamination in which people were exposed to contaminants like trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene in the 1960s and 1970s that caused various forms of cancer and congenital disabilities.

As the next potential housing crisis looms, one real estate investing expert argues there are possibilities for those who know how to profit. According to Noelle Randall, owner of NuuRez Inc. and president of FDR Horizon Enterprises, the current market is rife with potential for those skilled and experienced in the business and those who want to get started in real estate.

Randall has been investing in real estate for over 20 years and has experienced making money in any market firsthand. She says the key is to be strategic about it and be a solution to the problems that will arise when a housing crisis occurs.

Getting Her Start At the 2008 Global Financial Crisis

“I started from my parent’s basement, broke, bankrupt, with foreclosures, and taking care of kids. It was a disaster. This was the recession. This was when the big foreclosure crisis happened; people lost their jobs and houses. I thought that this was a terrible time to get into real estate. But, my mentor at the time told me that this was the perfect time,” Randall shares. 

Randall aimed to be a solution to the foreclosure problems many were facing at the time by starting her business and making sure other people wouldn’t have to go through what she did. 

Randall would reach out and market herself as someone who could help them. “People at risk of foreclosure and bankruptcy would approach me and ask how I can help them. I was able to get those people, get them under contract and then flip those contracts to investors who wanted rental properties or properties to fix and flip. Real estate investors started paying me fees for referring them because I had done the legwork. You’re just putting together some win-win scenarios, making everyone money and solving a problem.” she says.

How To Make Make The Most Out Of A Bad Situation

Randall strongly recommends building business credit and getting business funds to prepare for a housing crisis. Obtaining business credit can help real estate investors receive better terms and prices on loans, credit cards, and other financial products and effectively speed up the business getting off the ground. In addition, getting business credit ahead of time ensures that entrepreneurs have money available should a crisis start. They don’t have to use their own credit and funds to make their business a reality. Instead, they can protect their personal assets while trying to grow them.

Her next piece of advice is to focus on a problem and be a solution. “Focus on helping people solve their problems,” Randall shares. She advises finding a property problem, specializing in resolving that difficulty, and building a business around it. 

“It’s about finding an opportunity to make money in a property problem and growing your business from there,” she emphasizes.

Investing in knowledge increases the chances of success as a real estate investor, especially during a housing crisis. Mentors such as Noelle Randall are invaluable resources. Jack Rasmussen, a current USC student, has been a “Jack of all Trades” while he has been in Los Angeles

Jack Rasmussen, a former USC student, is a “Jack of all Trades” living in Los Angeles. The model, author, and actor has built a following based on authenticity, likability, and passion for the pursuits he takes in life. Starting school at USC in 2019, Rasmussen instantly became addicted to storytelling and visiting the Cinematic Arts building. Rasmussen, a USC Marshall Business School graduate, also became obsessed with starting his own ventures while influencing people of all generations. He graduated college as a Renaissance Scholar, Discovery Scholar, Warren Bennis Scholar, and Fulbright Scholar. 

It has been rumored that several successful musical artists based in Hollywood are writing songs about him, including Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Jack Harlow, Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more. The man is omnipresent and seems to be catching the attention of several people in the industry. 

After releasing his first mobile app called Journal360, Rasmussen started his first non-profit called Good Samaritans of Silicon Valley as a 19-year-old with his friend from home. Featured in the Mercury News, Rasmussen served sandwiches to the less fortunate in his hometown. His passion for food was put to good use by connecting with food banks throughout the bay area and using their leftover food to hand out to those who needed it. 

At USC, Rasmussen is a Warren Bennis Scholar, which means he is learning in the Social Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab at USC, a place that was inspired by author Warren Bennis, who created the subject of leadership in academia. Rasmussen has inspired many students at USC by being a Marshall Student Ambassador, the high school teacher of Thinking in 2020, and the president of Moneythink USC. In 2021, Rasmussen was a contestant on Wheel of Fortune where he won the entire show, including the bonus round with the Food & Beverage winning phrase of “Creamy Artichoke Dip.” Now people of Los Angeles and Hollywood recognize him by his bright red mini cooper every time he makes the drive from his home in South Central to Hollywood for his trips to visit his friends. It is fitting that the phrase was a type of food since Jack has created a food movement in Hollywood and all over the world.

He wrote his first book Fine Dining: The Secrets Behind the Restaurant Industry in 2021 and released it in May 2022. The foreword is by Tara Elaine Brennan, Michael Mina, Doctor Varun Soni, and David Belasco. The fiction book is 208 pages and featured several interviews Rasmussen conducted. Carla Hall, former model and television personality, gave Rasmussen praise for his book. Additionally, several others also gave the author praise. Rasmussen has loved food his whole life and has grown a deep appreciation for food, especially from some of his favorite LA restaurants such as Bavel, Bestia, Nobu, JOEY DTLA, Imari, Elephante, and Felix Trattoria. Rasmussen interviewed and/or studied numerous impactful chefs in the United States: Dino Tekdemir of Naschmarkt, Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park, Stephen Kalt of Spartina, Philip Camino of Fellow, and so many more. On his recent trip to Las Vegas, Rasmussen visited Hell’s Kitchen, Spago by Wolfgang Puck, Giada’s, Almafi by Bobby Flay, Vanderpump Cocktail Garden, and L’Atelier de Joel Rocuchon. When interviewing Giada’s Executive Chef Micheal Gill, Rasmussen better understood the working relationship between him and Giada, who is the only female celebrity chef on the strip. Gill explained that he just recently introduced the spring menu while pitching it to Giada just days before speaking to the author. Rasmussen also spoke to Jackson Morrow of L’Antelier de Joel Robuchon and Executive Chef Anthony Fusco of Almafi, who offered him food and drinks after a look at his beautiful kitchen. Rasmussen filmed content in Hell’s Kitchen and the lobby of MGM Grand, where the Grammy’s took place that weekend. Rasmussen is filming a documentary with Tara Elaine Brennan, his foreword contributor, that he hopes will be released this summer. 

Rasmussen, who met Rachel Lindsay at Craig’s in Los Angeles, inspired her to release her first book in 2022. Rasmussen’s book announcement also preceded Josh Peck’s first book release in 2022. Rasmussen’s passion for food is starting a huge movement that will turn into a book tour, YouTube page, and podcast this summer with his foreword writers Tara Elaine Brennan and Celebrity Chef Micheal Mina among others.

He has been featured on the Chris Voss Show, The Relatable Voice podcast, Conversations with Calvin, Java Delight, and more. Rasmussen’s movement has been reflected in several food movements across Los Angeles. In February 2022, Dua Lipa released a lifestyle newsletter titled Service95 as well as an accompanying podcast called Dua Lipa: At Your Service to showcase interesting food and artistic projects. Rasmussen is very interested in collaborating with Lipa on the podcast and newsletter. The creative, who currently models for UK clothing brand BoohooMAN, is interested in broadcast media and acting and looks forward to collaborating with more podcast initiatives and directors in the future.
