Tim Beck – A Master Of Tattoo Art

From getting a tattoo for celebrations to breakups and makeups, and the passing of loved ones, tattoo artists see themselves as a supporting role in people’s stories, who’ve walked with them through various stages of life. One of such artists carving his own path in the industry is Timothy A. Beck, tattooing since 1997. Having picked up pencil and paper as a six-year-old, his creative gifts were evident from a very young age.

A native of Creve Coeur, Tim was born on January 18, 1979, in Peoria, Illinois, to Norma and James Beck, a Korean War veteran and dedicated Caterpillar worker who instilled in him the value of hard work. But a strong work ethic was not his dad’s only influence. His father’s two tattoos—one an anchor, the other an eagle—signified his days in the Navy and devotion to his country, but to his son, they held a mystical allure.

Recently, the Internet has boosted the popularity of tattoos and driven all kinds of trends, but Tim sees it as a double-edged sword. “I love how much it’s clued people into what tattooing is and opened people’s eyes that it is a valid art form. But at the same time, it made it possibly too popular.

Stepping Foot In The Industry

Tim was always drawn to the art in Mad Magazine, early cartoons, and newspaper comic books as inspiration for his art and illustrations. Music and art flooded his brain. During his high school years, Tim turned his attention to music, playing in several punk and ska bands, but despite some regional success, he knew he couldn’t make ends meet as a musician.

At the age of 17, he got his first tattoo. “I watched the guy do it, [and thought] man, I could do better than that… Which is wrong to be that prideful, but just watching him is what really got me into tattooing.” And with that, his search for another creative outlet—and a lifelong profession—was over.

Mastering The Art Of Tattoo

Tim sought out tattoo artists in the area to help train him, but there were few to be found back then. “[Tattooing] had a stigma attached to it—a biker mentality and a gang mentality. Prisoners had them. There were only a few shops in the area.”

He ordered some equipment out of a tattoo magazine and practiced unprofessionally on a few friends. Although it was not the right way, it got his foot enough in the door to bring some of his work to his future mentor and teacher, Nick McCarty, who took him under his wing and taught him the sacred art of tattooing the right way.

From there, Tim set out to master all the skills necessary to utilize the human body as a canvas. His work flows organically on an individual’s body. For him, it’s all about connecting and designing that makes it work. “You’re learning anatomy, the art and history of tattooing, and also how art works with the anatomy… like how does it stain the dermis, and how does it last?,” he explains. “You need to be taught that for years to really know it.”

Tim’s Firm Belief in Traditionalism

Ascribing to a style known as American traditional, Tim is committed to the old-school, classic look and method of application. “I appreciate the classic style, mainly because there is generally a right and wrong, with little exception. So much art is subjective. The thing that’s beautiful about tattooing is that it’s not really subjective. It has to be something that is understood, it has to be iconic, and it has to be good. That’s why I like it: there’s no in-between.”

Having trained in the age of “new school”—a style distinguished by freestyling, bright colors, unique patterns, and an almost-cartoonish look—Tim’s faith in traditionalism remains firm. Characterized by bold lines, heavy blacks, and solid colors, tattoos in the traditionalist style are timeless. Religious and patriotic figures are common, along with other iconic imagery: daggers, anchors, hearts, and roses—each holding a unique symbolism. “All that old stuff has some sort of meaning,” he explains. “A rose wasn’t tattooed for no reason. The point of a rose was the beauty and shortness of life—how it has thorns, and how it has hardships.”

After about five years under Nick’s mentorship, Tim moved northward to the Chicago outlier of Elgin, where he worked under an artist called Cleen Rock One. He was also his friend and colleague and was known as one of the forefathers of ‘New School Tattooing.’ He returned to central Illinois in 2004, and not too long after moving back, he opened “Freedom Ink Tattoos” in the heart of Peoria, Illinois. In the same year, he married his sweetheart, Charlotte, and later became a father to a beautiful daughter named Lily. Then to follow, his son William and finally, Leo, his youngest boy.

His Achievements

“I almost don’t even view myself as an artist. I realize what I do is art, but at the end of the day, I’m a craftsman. I’m trying to make this buzzing, vibrating machine make a beautiful picture on you. I’m like a dentist.

As a well-rounded tattoo artist, Tim specializes in diverse styles and is the inventor of the “patch tattoo,” also known as an embroidered style that mimics a realistic patch or embroidery in the skin. He has been tattooing for over two decades in some of the world’s most notable conventions. He has received several awards and is frequently featured in the top tattoo magazines in the world.

Along with a full, thorough apprenticeship, he has attended seminars and continued education on sterile fields, cross-contamination, and blood-borne and air-borne pathogens. Tim has been recognized repeatedly as one of the top tattooers in the world.

Tim has also designed the logo for the multi-platinum selling band, Fallout Boy. He also often travels on the tour bus with the band “Blue October” and has tattooed on different tour dates at the venues for their fans.

Episcopal Church Foundation–(1650564576)

Religion plays an integral part in any society. It consists of values, beliefs, norms, and even objects that play a vital role in shaping people’s lives and the community. People consult with their religion and act according to the teachings of their faith. However, it is undeniable that modernization has also influenced many aspects of our personal lives and religion.

Religion has the power and influence to mold a community with a set of rules and directives. In medieval times, there used to be small communities and social groups. Nevertheless, the industrial revolution has transformed how we connect and communicate with the world. Never before in the history of humankind has it been so effortless to connect and be in touch.

The Rt. Rev. Henry Knox Sherrill founded the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) in 1949, focusing on strengthening congregations and working to build and transform the community. Since its formation, ECF has been working in all capacities, from raising funds and managing finances and assets to providing quality resources to the church and the larger faith community.

When ECF was formed, churches throughout the country were becoming more centralized and adapting to a more corporate governance model. Reverend Sherrill understood the importance of modernization yet kept the core beliefs and practices unblemished.

Initially, resources from ECF were used in the construction and development of the Episcopal Church’s infrastructure across the country and in extending the work globally. Under the leadership of Bishop Sherrill, ECF established a revolving loan fund to construct hundreds of Episcopal churches in the United States and globally. ECF also supported many students in doctoral programs through its Fellows program and funded many local outreach ministries.

As time passed, ECF adapted to new methods and strategies to focus on launching other initiatives and creating a network of individuals and congregations to advance the Church and community. In the late 1980s, ECF transferred the responsibility for construction and church building loans to the Episcopal Church Building Fund and focused on new strategic projects, including a program called CREDO, which is now administered and funded by the Church Pension Group (CPG), to focus on clergy health and wholeness.

Not long after that in the mid-90s, ECF conducted educational and training events, and published papers and research to help the organization grow. As the new century emerged, it brought many technological advances. ECF approached its 60th anniversary by implementing many strategies and ideas. Notably, the original Fellows’ grant became the Fellowship Partners Program, and ECF launched its Vital Practices website and took its popular magazine Vestry Papers online. With this move, the original organization became a major online resource center for the Church.

One of the many reasons why ECF has continued to grow and evolve is the result of the wisdom of leaders like Bishop Henry Knox Sherrill and the current president, Donald V. Romanik.

In an interview, Donald Romanik, reflected on when he joined the organization. Even though he was not actively seeking a new job, he still decided to apply. “And what happened,” he says, “is that during that process, when I sat down and put together a resumé, I felt it was the first time in my vocational/professional life that I was participating in a thoughtful, prayerful process of who I was, what was I passionate about and what was God calling me to do.”

He joined ECF in 2005 and immediately began working on creating new strategies for the future For example, the publication Vestry Papers started in print to help train and provide information to faith communities. Its distribution was just like any other print publication at the time. He anticipated that a switch from print to online would attract more readers, and that ECF would be able to reach a lot more people.

“I know nothing about this online stuff,” he told his team, “but is there any way you could come up with making Vestry Papers kind of virtual?”. Thus, Vital Practices, an award-winning online resource, was launched in 2010.

Over the years, in addition to producing numerous publications, products, and services, ECF has also started such programs as Listening Hearts for adults and Journey to Adulthood for children, helped establish a new bishop search process, helped create the College for Bishops, helped found the Alban Institute, and set up the Revolving (church building) Loan Fund.

The ECF team continues to produce new transformative tools and resources. One of them is ECF360, a new low-cost self-service subscription site for fundraising for the community.

The Latinx community is one of the fastest-growing populations in the Episcopal Church. In response, ECF has curated a number of high-quality Spanish language resources. In 2021 it released the Spanish Finance Resource Guide (GRF), that serves as a handbook for Latinx congregations to better understand and manage financial resources.

The Episcopal Church Foundation has published numerous books such as the Finance Resource Guide in English and Spanish, Vestry Resource Guide, Funding Future Ministry, Writing Your Will, Planned Giving, and Planning for the End of Life.

Donald launched another book in February 2022 called Money Legacies. The book discusses the subject of money, which is still considered somewhat of a taboo in church circles.

Looking back at the last 73 years, the Episcopal Church Foundation now moves forward towards an innovative and creative future.

Papa Will – One of The Best Children’s Books Author

Most people would agree that children’s books are an important part of a child’s education. They help instill a love of reading and provide valuable life lessons. But many people don’t realize that children’s book authors play a vital role in shaping young minds. They carefully select each word and illustration to create a story that educates, entertains and inspires young readers. In doing so, they play an essential role in helping children develop a love of learning.

While some may see such authors as simply storytellers, they are much more than that. Papa Will, the author of Pancake Piggy, is an educator, mentor, and friend to children. He helps shape the future by instilling a love of learning in young minds, truly making a difference in their live.

Papa Will’s Distinct Writing Style

Papa Will excels in capturing the attention of young readers. This can be challenging because they usually have shorter attention spans than adults. However, he is adept at crafting stories that are both entertaining and age-appropriate.

Furthermore, he has the ability to elicit emotions in young readers. After all, imagination is part of the attraction of reading for children; they want to be transported to another world where they can laugh, cry, and have a wide range of experiences. Papa Will has a strong and quick connection with his audience. He understands what children want and need from his stories, allowing him to write in a way that is meaningful to them.

Here are some of the top features of Papa Will’s style

Simple, Easy To Follow, And Interesting Plot

A compelling plot is particularly crucial in children’s literature. Adults are better suited to reading novels or books that develop in longer, complicated plots.

Most children, however, do not have the same patience for this sort of text. Things have to happen, and they have to be exciting and unexpected events! Things that will make them laugh, gasp, and respond in some way to the words on the page.

Papa Will understands that there is no perfect narrative for children, but he writes in such a fascinating tone that youngsters cannot stop themselves from turning the pages.

A Distinct Difference Between “Good” and “Bad

Papa Will sees the value of showing concepts and teachings to children because it helps them apply what they learn in books to their real world.

The boundary between acceptable and unacceptable attitudes isn’t as obvious or distinct in children’s lives as it is in their literature. life as it is in children’s fiction, but in order for youngsters to learn about these sophisticated concepts and divides, they must begin with something simpler. Having a distinct “good person” and “bad person” is a wonderful approach to inspire children to think about their values and positive traits and encourage them to highlight everything about them that is good.

Beautiful And High-Quality Illustrations

A good story book must have captivating images. Children can become bored if there are only words on the page, and they may become so preoccupied that they abandon the book entirely. Papa Will ensures that his books have eye-catching and fascinating graphics to keep young readers’ attention and interest in the story. Illustrations also inspire children to become visual readers, and eventually, they will be able to generate their own illustrations using their imaginations, encouraging them to become lifelong readers.

About Papa Will

Papa Will, is a retired pastor and former corporate executive. He and his wife have been married for over 60 years and live in Tennessee. They enjoy spending time with their four children and spouses, as well as their 11 grandchildren, ranging in age from pre-teen to adult, three of whom are married. He lives his life to the fullest! Having had the opportunity to read numerous books to children throughout the years, he has always been delighted by their curiosity, which prompted him to start penning stories about how different behaviors affect circumstances.  This author expresses his thoughts on the principles of caring, generosity, and constructive relationships in Pancake Piggy, encouraging youngsters to consider what it means to be pleasant and responsible to others.

Papa Will seeks to teach essential life lessons with thought-provoking ideas to young readers through his work.  His passion drives his work, and he emphasizes the significance of instilling positive attitudes in youngsters through the use of engaging and relevant characters. He emphasizes the importance of kindness, sharing, and caring in this narrative.

What’s The Lesson Inside Pancake Piggy?

Pancake Piggy is a short storybook that teaches children how to treat others.

This book is ideal for children who sometimes avoid sharing with their friends and, as a result, unwittingly hurt their feelings by being impolite or selfish. Pancake Piggy is filled with eye-catching pictures that both parents and children will enjoy.

It’s an excellent book for parents, grandparents, and educators who want to have basic conversations with their children about the key principles of caring, compassion, and empathy that will assist them throughout their lives.

The Essence of Children’s Books

Children’s books are a unique genre, often combining simple stories with beautiful illustrations. In many ways, they are the perfect way to introduce young children to the joys of reading. However, what sets children’s books apart from other genres is their ability to capture the essence of childhood emotions and experiences.

Papa Will takes young readers on a journey through a world full of possibilities. His book Pancake Piggy teaches young readers about the importance of sharing. It instills in children the importance of being kind, generous, and appreciative of friendships while teaching them the fundamental values of life.

JULIUS PAUL MONTGOMERY – PROVIDING MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TO AT-RISK YOUTH

It is a common saying that children are the future of society. Children, youth, and students play a significant role in developing their community. However, results can differ if the children walk on a troubled path. These at-risk young adults can succumb to drug addiction, crime, or self-destruction. The mentality of young adults is in the developing stage. If they are in bad surroundings, they learn negative things, which brings self-destruction, and the entire community is affected. Similarly, when the youth get the right mentorship and sit among educated individuals, they tend to embrace positivity, improve their lifestyle, stabilize families, and positively affect society. The at-risk youth need true educational leaders and mentors who can provide them constructive exposure and guide them to walk on the right path. One prominent example comes from Julius Paul Montgomery, a community hero and mentor who has served 21 years in the U.S. Army.

Mentors can belong to any profession. Primarily, they are teachers, advisors, and leaders who guide about careers, opportunities, jobs, graduate schools, and life choices. Above all, mentors are role models and true motivators who have a firm belief in their mentees. They see the potential in youth and enable them to reach where they want to go. Many students and young adults are deprived of mentorship. They have no idea which career path to choose and what steps they should take to hit the heights of success.

Studies show that the brain continues to grow, mature, and develop during childhood and adolescence. At this stage of brain development, children are more likely to misinterpret society cues and be involved in fights and risky behaviors. Youths of every society are vulnerable to going in the wrong direction, so they need mentors to differentiate between wrong and right. Mentors cannot expedite their brain development process or force a child to make healthy decisions. But they can share their experience, views, advice, and knowledge. Plus, they can leave a positive influence on their minds. Mentors can help young people prevent negative behaviors, stay on the right track, and achieve success by sharing new exposures with them.

Various studies show that 59% of mentored youth achieve better grades. Mentored teenagers are less likely to begin alcohol, and there is a rare chance that they will skip school. Youth with proper mentorship are more likely to go to college, show better attitudes towards education, and improve emotional development and self-esteem.

Julius Montgomery was born on July 19, 1941, in Clermont, Florida. He is a retired Operations Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Currently, he is working to provide exposure and a better educational platform for the at-risk youth in society. He understands that education is the only solution to change the fate of youth and society. Through his non-profit organization, Hero’s Club, Montgomery provides quality education exposure to the youth. The retired U.S. Army Sergeant founded Hero’s Club on June 19, 2019, intending to mentor at-risk youth and help them face challenges and become successful citizens.

Julius achieved his High School GED in 1960. Later he went to Columbus College to earn his A.A. degree. In 1986, he achieved his Master’s degree from the University of S.C.

Montgomery started his journey in the U.S. Army in 1959. After serving 21 years in the Army, he retired in 1980. Throughout his tenure in the Army, he gave his services in numerous positions. Julius was deployed in Vietnam as an Operations Sergeant in a tank company. Montgomery’s responsivity required him to provide direction for combat operations. He coordinated with engineers, infantry, helicopters, and other combat factors involved in the operation. Montgomery’s tank company was then honored as Vietnam’s number one tank. Plus, the company achieved all the milestones beyond its call of duty, which enabled the company to receive a President Unit Citation.

After Vietnam, Julius was deployed in the DMZ of North and South Korea, where he served as an Army Operations Sergeant and a Senior Noncommissioned Officer. He also served as an Operation Sergeant for a top-secret nuclear program that was directly linked to Washington. Montgomery also served as an Army Recruiter and later became Recruitment Supervisor. While working in the recruitment department, Julius built strong connections with community groups, schools, and students. The job developed his interest in being an educational leader and mentor for doing something special for the community.

For his meritorious services in the Army, he received various recognitions and awards, including Vietnam Service Medal, Army Accommodation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and President Unit Citation.

Paul founded Hero’s Club intending to provide mentorship to underserviced communities. The organization provides quality educational exposure to at-risk young adults studying in grades 6 to 8. He works with other volunteers and mentors to provide exposure to the community students.

Travelling was not the point of interest in his life until one day he made a trip to “Des Moines, Iowa to Adventureland or Kansas City, Missouri to worlds of fun.” As an 11 years old boy, Adam was quite fascinated by the stories and myths surrounding countries like Germany, Japan, and Thailand. After joining the airforce in 1998, Adam was exposed to the world of travel, leading him to develop the urge to explore the culture, history, and many countries he had only heard the stories about.

Patrick Sullens aka The Emperial Hulk on Turning Adversities to Inspiration

Sometimes seeing past troubles is harder than the troubles themselves. When one is constantly bombarded by challenges, one can hardly imagine the possibilities of a brighter future. But Patrick Sullens never lost hope.

Patrick Sullens has faced a great deal of challenges throughout his life, but he turned his adversities into stories of inspiration and is now uplifting lives across the globe. His story began in 2008 when he was hit by an 18-wheeler truck, leaving him with three major spinal fusions. The major injuries took him five hours to recover. A year later, he was hit again, this time by a drunk driver who flipped the car four times, causing multiple fractures in his neck and bruising his brain stem.

Following his second vehicular accident, Patrick Sullens experienced 16 outbreaks of shingles between 2014 to 2020. He hid his shingles outbreaks from others because he was ashamed of his condition and felt ugly, useless, and powerless against his condition. In 2018, he broke his ankle ligaments after showing an eight-year-old how to make a jump shot at a recreation center. In 2020, he received a brain stem rejuvenation treatment to finally stop his recurring shingles. The following year, he received an ankle reconstruction ligament surgery.

“During these challenges, I’ve found another avenue to remain healthy and strong. That is deadlifting and powerlifting,” he shared. “Hulking up at the gym is a therapy I wish I could describe to so many other people. A healthy way to excerpt stress while gaining healthy habits. Those who know my story and saw me pushing through the challenges understand my quote, ‘inspiration defines perseverance.'”

Throughout his difficult circumstances, Patrick Sullens always sought ways to leave an impact on his community. For nine years now, he served from Northeast Atlanta to Dawsonville, Georgia, as the Co-General Manager of RaceTrac. “Serving others and bringing smiles on faces daily is the platform I desire to wake up every morning to pursue. It’s also allowed me to network among several stores across the counties to network with some amazing people to support our communities,” he said.

Showing great perseverance and grit through his challenges, Patrick Sullens received multiple awards and recognitions. In 2018, he received the five-year Award from RaceTrac. He also became the Inductee Marquis Who’s Who of America in 2020 and was featured on the cover of the magazine in 2021. In the same year, he was named as one of the Top 100 Influential People, where he gained his title as The Emperial Hulk, and placed 15th in Mr. Health & Fitness Competition for Muscle & Fitness Magazine in powerlifting in the heavyweight division, even with a bad ankle. This year, he placed seventh in the same category while still healing from his ankle ligament surgery.

Despite the medical challenges, Patrick Sullens proved that anyone could lead healthier lives, and sometimes the therapy itself is the first step to leading such a lifestyle. His circumstances have never stopped him from chasing his goals. While on the path to healing, he also broadened his network by helping and serving his community and other communities, bringing locals together. Without a doubt, Patrick Sullens will continue to build on the inspiring legacy he has started, and his influence will continue to grow more communities worldwide.
