More Covid Testing is Needed, Not Just Testing Kits!

While many questions remain regarding the spread of Covid-19, there is one undeniable fact. Each individual can do their part to suppress and mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Proven safety practices such as mask-wearing, hand washing, and social distancing prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Of equal—and possibly even greater—importance is everyone’s commitment to ongoing Covid-19 testing. “We’re going to leverage our resources and get it done,” says Graig Robinson, CEO of Diagnostic Service Center. “We can protect ourselves. We know what to do.” 

Testing for Covid-19 has come a long way

Doctors confirmed the first case of Coronavirus in the US in January 2020., but capable and efficient testing lagged far behind. As February of that year came to an end, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) loosened restrictions pertaining to Emergency Use Authorization. This led to a drastic increase in the availability of authorized Covid-19 tests. By May, the private sector handled Covid testing almost exclusively. At summer’s end, Americans performed approximately one million Covid tests a day. 

Two years later, Coronavirus still runs rampant. If there is to be a safe return to normalcy, the need for widespread and regular testing is clear. 

Improved testing is achievable and necessary. Scientists from the National Institute of Health are putting massive effort into programs that ensure the availability of rapid and reliable Covid testing. The $1.5-billion Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics program, for example, aims to scale up the deployment of rapid Covid tests with a goal of making 6 million tests available each day. 

“This is what we’ve been doing for more than 700 days,” comments Robinson. “We’ve developed the tests, increased availability, and decreased delays in results. Now we are empowered to put together solutions that can have a real impact on this pandemic.”

Who should be tested for Coronavirus?

SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted even before symptoms are present. Additionally, the virus remains asymptomatic in some people. These facts make testing critical. Only regular testing can identify individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 – regardless of whether they are symptomatic or not.

“I encourage everyone to take a proactive approach and test at home,” remarks Robinson. “We need to make sure we collect enough specimens to conduct an accurate assessment of the impact of this pandemic. Repeated and reliable testing is the best strategy for a safe return to schools and workplaces.”

People who show symptoms of Covid-19 such as trouble breathing, fever, sore throat, or loss of the sense of smell and taste should be tested immediately. Testing early allows people to isolate themselves and reduce the chances of infecting others. Seeking early treatment is also key to reducing the disease’s severity.  

People who have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with Covid-19 need to be tested as well. The airborne disease is highly contagious. Just because people receive a negative test result doesn’t mean they are completely in the clear. It is possible to become infectious later. Even after negative results, people should continue proven safety practices, including regular handwashing, social distancing, and mask-wearing. 

Even people without Covid-19 symptoms can help make their workplace a safer environment by submitting to testing. According to a UChicago study, over half of all SARS-CoV-2 infections are transmitted by asymptomatic people. Identifying pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals infected with Coronavirus before they spread the illness to their friends, family, and coworkers plays a major role in stopping the pandemic.

Those who receive positive test results should responsibly report the findings and take measures to isolate themselves. In addition, anyone with whom they’ve been in close contact should get tested as soon as possible.

Covid testing is easy and quick

In the early days of Covid-19, the only available tests required swabbing the back of the throat to obtain a sample. This type of test is understandably uncomfortable and invasive for many people.

Newer tests developed by RADx Tech and RADx-ATP (Advanced Technology Platforms) allow people to collect samples from the nasal passages. These tests are far more comfortable and just as reliable. In the near future, people will also be able to test for Covid by providing a saliva sample or mouth swab.

Fast results are the key to mitigating the spread of Covid-19. Delays plagued testing feedback during the early days of the pandemic, but labs have dramatically improved their testing capacities. On average, results take no longer than four days.

Some of today’s most rapid Covid-19 tests are known as point-of-care tests. These tests do not need to be sent away for results. They can be completed right after the specimen is collected. Point-of-care tests enable people to have results and take precautions in minutes.   

“Businesses across the nation have resources,” says Robinson. “We also have information provided to us by health systems and the federal government. So now, we’re empowered to put in place the protective programs and reactive programs we need.” Covid-19 testing has come a long way during the two years of the pandemic. Thanks to herculean efforts from scientists and governments around the world, the tests are more reliable and accessible than ever. With a widespread initiative to utilize this testing, the power to suppress the spread of Coronavirus is within reach.

Neo Pitso’s song “Monopoly” opens with a haunting melody that sets the tone for a snappy tune with easy to recite lyrics. The song is musically adventurous and baits the listener with its melodic lines. Neo has found a clever way to rhyme within pockets of the instrumental thus creating a tonally complex serving of musical brilliance.  

“Why the f*** you take a hiatus, when you know that you got haters” he asks sarcastically in the opening lines of the song. When his discography is studied we can see that Neo took a break for a year which explains his opening lines. Furthermore, it appears that he is talking to himself and encouraging himself to do better, work through the pain in order to anger the haters.  

“It takes money, (money), takes money to make money” he raps with such confidence that it can be misconstrued as cockiness. These are arguably the most memorable lyrics of the entire song.  

The visuals for Monopoly are quite stunning. Kudos to Neo and his videographer Raf Flores. They have successfully told a story using symbolic imagery and a series of close ups to capture the essence of the song and make it more personable. The video starts with an unhappy character who seems to be dreaming about acquiring worldly possessions. As his ambition grows he slowly acquires things that give him temporary happiness, like jewellery. There’s also an interesting scene where he is seen telling his companions how to succeed in the game of life. The choice to have his team lined up in a triangular formation feeds into the Illuminati narrative, a clever use of symbolism on the part of the director.  

The story in the video is finally complete when the protagonist has a woman by his side catering to his needs and, a well behaved American Staffordshire Terrier. Despite all this the video ends with him hardly cracking a smile. He seems to have gained the whole world and lost his soul in the process. So while we can agree that it takes money to make money, the question is at what cost? 

Neo seems to have found his sound since his last hit record titled “Money First”, the mea culpa for failing to deliver a promised project to his fans that year. Harmonising the chorus is a nice touch that adds vocal depth to the composition. By choosing to sing his lyrics melodically rather than recite them, as is customary in traditional hip hop, Neo taps into a new environment where the possibilities are endless. Although his voice can’t be compared to some of the greatest singers in his genre, he holds a note well enough to accomplish his mission on each song he creates. The formula works in his favour. 

Neo has promised his fans 3 EPs this year which remains to be seen. He has also promised to release 6 music videos and do 50 shows. This is incredibly ambitious even for someone like Neo who’s a self-driven high achiever. He may have to set some self imposed deadlines, book some marathon studio sessions, increase his collaborations to widen his reach and most importantly consistently put music out.

Leo Garret, better known by his stage name “Leeoh Litt,”  is a rap artist currently dominating hip-hop with his upbeat sound and lyrics. Although Leeoh Litt is now climbing his way to the industry’s peak as an iconic rapper, his rise to success was a path filled with thorns and tribulation. He had a relatively uneventful childhood that led him on a path of violence, and so at the young age of fifteen, he was arrested and tried and incarcerated for about fifteen years. Faced with the harsh reality of his ordeal in prison, he had time to self-reflect. However, instead of wallowing in self-pity, he found solace in music and used singing and songwriting to escape his life.

With nothing but time in prison, he honed his skills as an artist and a songwriter. As a result, once he finished his prison term, he hit the ground running, his superior vocals and determination ear-making him an artist to watch out for. He launched into the music scene to narrate his story through captivating lyrics and tunes, and he smashed the airwaves with his global hit single “Grudge” with over 100,000 streams across streaming platforms. 

For Leeoh Litt, his brand of music is inspired by real-life events, and he wants his raps to reflect his own experiences. “I am not a “Conscious Rapper,” he said. “I choose not to use any profanity or what could be perceived as racist/prejudice derogatory terms in my lyrics. The reason is that I want my music to bring people together from all walks of life based on good vibes only. I don’t want to divide people. My genuine love for humanity drives my stance in that choice. Although most mature, my music is “people-friendly.”

As an artist whose song reflects his unfortunate upbringing, Leeoh sings for the youth and people who feel like they need a little guidance. “I’m far from perfect, but I’ve been through things that people who need guidance may be going through, and I feel like my music will help them get through those stages of growing pains, be it my words of experience or embraced as confirmation,” he explains. In addition, his music helps these people find the motivation to become better each day, even while having a fun moment. 

Besides being a rap artist, Leeoh is also a budding entrepreneur, the owner of Globe View Distribution and the president of Wild 4 Sho Live Entertainment, an independent record label. Furthermore, he is currently partnered up with Services by Tan and LimeLight Management to provide professionals with a wide range of services. 

In an interview, the artist and entrepreneur shared the motivation behind his success. He said, “Other than my family and people who need me, what deeply motivates me to build my brand is the burning desire to succeed so that the people who have been where I have been can see that they too can rise above all opposition after losing tremendously. I owe it to the generations to come to pave another way. I want the light from my brand to be a guide.” 

In the coming years, he wants to own his record label to continue giving back to the community and guiding the youth through his music. But, all things considered, Leeoh Litt is on his way to becoming an astounding superstar and a household name!
