They say that the most important things are those that transcend the physical and connect with a person’s soul. This is something that the intuitive young man Alexander Yearns knows very well. After all, the gifted individual has devoted himself to pursuing one of life’s most potent intangibles: music.
The New Jersey-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist first developed his passion for the art at a young age. He was only seven years old when he discovered Elvis Presley’s The King Of Rock’ N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters CD box set sitting in his uncle’s basement. Curious about what he found, he proceeded to listen to the five-disc compilation and all of its 140 tracks.
The life-changing experience left the boy in awe and served as a catalyst that steered his direction towards a life of music. After a few months, he finally requested a drum kit, his first instrument. This ultimately kickstarted his career as the dedicated individual consistently practiced and honed his skills. He later learned how to play the guitar, which significantly helped with his songwriting process. At 13, he joined his brother and a few other guys in a band inspired by New Jersey’s rock ‘n roll scene.
In 2017, he began pursuing a career as a solo artist by playing some of his early demos at open mic nights. Less than a year later, he was booked in several venues throughout the Tri-state area.
This incredible commitment to the craft is what makes Alexander Yearns such a strong artist. Paired with his profound understanding of the art, he has captivated audiences and wowed listeners. But, aside from that, what fans love most about him is his relatable music which takes inspiration from his real-life experiences and genuine emotions.
He has since debuted songs such as the hit single “You Realize,” which was dropped in 2020. The singer-songwriter has also written and produced a couple of albums at Strange Weather Recording Studio in Brooklyn, New York. This includes his first EP, To Each of Us, released in October 2018. The five-track album features a psychedelic folk-rock sound while the artist’s intoxicating voice hovers over an experimental and, at times dominating, moody soundscape.
His second album is a full-length LP that is a far cry from its predecessor. Aptly named Phoenix, it represents the musician’s journey during a new chapter in his life. As such, it is a quieter collection, with each song a bit rawer and stripped back, allowing Alexander Yearns’ fervent words to go undisguised.
His entire discography is currently available for streaming on all digital platforms, including Spotify, with the exception of My Void, a collection of his recorded instrumentals over the years, which is exclusively released on Bandcamp.
With such remarkable musical prowess and artistry, Alexander Yearns is poised to break through to the mainstream music scene. As he continues his journey, fans and music enthusiasts should keep an eye out for the gifted young man’s upcoming projects. At the moment, he is already preparing to record his next body of work which he intends to release sometime soon.
