Racing the Dream: Roman’s Journey with RS Academy and Beyond

Diagnosed with seizures at the tender age of three, Roman’s early years were filled with medical challenges that cast uncertainty over his future. Despite enduring a childhood marked by frequent tests and medications, his story took a turn for the better when he was declared seizure-free at the age of nine. This pivotal moment became the starting line for his racing dreams, setting him on a path to the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.

Igniting the Racing Passion

When Roman was three, he saw a MotoGP race and fell in love with motorcycle racing. His parents, who also raced, supported his dream by getting him his first dirt bike. Even though he was diagnosed with epilepsy, Roman didn’t give up. At age ten, he started racing officially and quickly achieved success, winning two state championships and two regional championships. These victories brought him closer to his ultimate goal of racing in MotoGP.

The RS Academy Experience in Barcelona

In December 2023, Roman took a significant step forward by traveling to Barcelona, Spain, to train with the renowned RS Academy. This experience was a crucial part of his journey, offering him the chance to immerse himself in the European style of motorcycle racing. The RS Academy, led by Alvaro, who is not only an accomplished racer but also a skilled coach, provided Roman with a comprehensive training program designed to refine his skills and enhance his performance.

Roman’s arrival in Barcelona was met with excitement. The initial days were spent acclimating to the city and its vibrant culture. He enjoyed the scenic beauty of his oceanfront condo, took part in local tours, and embraced the festive spirit by sailing on Christmas Eve. These experiences not only provided relaxation but also prepared him mentally for the intensive training ahead.

The first day of training was a blend of excitement and unexpected challenges. Roman faced a setback when he discovered that his leather suit, which had become stiff and misfitting due to the cold conditions during the flight, was unusable. Fortunately, the supportive community at RS Academy came to his aid. Alvaro, along with other parents and trainers, quickly found a temporary solution, allowing Roman to continue his training. Despite this hiccup, Roman’s enthusiasm remained undiminished. He took on drills with vigor, achieving impressive results by getting his elbow down on his first day.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Growth

The second day of training presented a new set of challenges as Roman and the team traveled to a track in the mountains. The cold weather, a stark contrast to the warmer temperatures Roman was accustomed to, made the training sessions more demanding. Roman struggled initially with the freezing temperatures, but Alvaro’s quick thinking, including using tire warmers to warm up Roman’s gloves, helped him overcome this obstacle. With his hands warmed up, Roman was able to focus on his training, impressing the team with his progress.

The third day was dedicated to drills, including circle drills, figure eights, and braking techniques. Roman found these drills both challenging and exhilarating. Under Alvaro’s guidance, he mastered new strategies that enhanced his racing skills. The day ended on a high note with Roman and Sergi, another coach, practicing wheelies and enjoying the process of learning and improving.

The final day of training was held at a track down south, closer to the ocean, where the weather was milder and more comfortable. This session was particularly significant as it was sponsored by Tamoil, and Iker Garcia, a professional racer, was present. The competitive atmosphere added an extra layer of excitement to the training. Roman’s performance continued to impress, and Iker Garcia recognized his potential, encouraging him to pursue further training in Spain. Roman’s dedication and skill were rewarded with a certificate of completion and a medal from RS Academy, along with a gift bag from Tamoil.

The Road Ahead: Preparing for the Future

Roman’s training in Barcelona was not just an isolated event but a stepping stone towards his broader ambitions. The experience equipped him with valuable skills and insights that will be crucial for his future endeavors. In the summer of 2024, Roman is set to return to Barcelona for another intensive week-long training camp. This upcoming opportunity will further refine his skills and prepare him for the fiercely competitive environment of the Spanish racing series.

Roman’s ultimate goal is to compete in the Spanish series by 2025 and, eventually, to make his mark in MotoGP. Each training session, race, and championship brings him closer to this dream. His journey reflects a relentless pursuit of excellence and a commitment to achieving his goals despite the challenges he has faced.

Giving Back: The “Ride Aloha” Charity Race

Roman’s journey isn’t just about his own accomplishments. It also shows his desire to help and make a difference. Because of the support he got during his health challenges, Roman created the “Ride Aloha” charity race. This event happens once a year and helps Nationwide Children’s Hospital. It’s also a way to celebrate being strong and hopeful. The race is Roman’s way of saying thank you, and his promise to help other kids overcome their own challenges.

With the “Ride Aloha” race, Roman wants to give young people the support and confidence they need to follow their dreams. He’s very committed to helping others and believes in the power of community support and making a positive difference in people’s lives.
