Nerissa Reaves, aka “Professor Honey”, is a personal finance expert and the founder of Professor Honey’s Credit & Lending. Reaves has a rich work history as a teacher-turned-restaurateur, investor-turned model and most recently, actress-turned-serial entrepreneur.
The Connecticut-born Reaves was taught by her father at a young age the importance of education. She was also exposed to the importance of keeping her credit score high from a young age. Even though she didn’t pick up any of the financial skills at first, her experience with losing everything during her first stint as an entrepreneur took her to the drawing board. This time, she made financial literacy and building a strong credit her starting point. Today, as a successful entrepreneur and financial literacy coach, Reaves is influencing the next generation of entrepreneurs and regular individuals on the importance of a positive credit score.
A big influence in Reaves’ life has also been her mother, who has been at the forefront of her success later on in life. She is a continuous source of inspiration and encouragement, and Reaves attributes a lot of her motivation to her mothers unconditional support.
For Reaves, her techniques and strategies are not a quick fix; as a matter of fact, she believes any positive or negative change is a product of time, and there are no guarantees that the time will be short or long, “If you think about it, bad credit didn’t happen to you last night while you were asleep,” said Reaves. “I hate to say it, but you did this to yourself, whether by ignorance or willful mistakes. So restoring your credit to health will take just as long – if not longer – than it took to get you to its current state.”
