For several days at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, a feast of culture and creativity has stirred up waves of enthusiasm in this international metropolis. The second Hong Kong International Cultural and Creative Expo (Art Hong Kong EXPO), held from May 16 to 19, vividly showcased the prosperity of Asia’s international city and the fusion of world cultures. This Expo included the “Third Belt and Road National Cultural and Art Exchange Expo” and the “Sixth Hong Kong International Art and Collectibles Expo.”
The Hong Kong Cultural Expo presented a diverse array of cultural and artistic forms, ranging from traditional Chinese paintings, bronzes, ceramics, and other traditional crafts such as antiques, gold and silverware, and jade, to modern art, photography, embroidery, and installation art. These exhibits displayed the brilliance and diversity of art. Visitors could appreciate the exquisite skills of traditional crafts and experience the avant-garde and innovation of contemporary art.
In addition to a rich variety of exhibits, the Expo also hosted many captivating activities, such as lectures and auctions, providing participants with more opportunities to deeply understand and engage in cultural creativity.
The Expo received strong support and assistance from multiple organizations, including the Hong Kong International Cultural and Creative Expo Organizing Committee, the Greater China Africa Chamber of Commerce, Art Valley, Double Delight DD, and Yunfeng Gallery. The Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Maritime Silk Road Association, and various consulates in Hong Kong also supported the event, providing robust backing and assurance for its success. Among the supporters were the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Maritime Silk Road Association, the Honorary Consulate of the United Republic of Tanzania in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Consulate General of Qatar in Hong Kong, the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Hong Kong, the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Senegal in Hong Kong, and the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and cooperation.
This year’s Expo invited a group of excellent artists to participate, including works by Peiyao (Heather) Tang titled “When a Circle Starts to Dream,” Yuan Zhuang’s “Huntington Dreams,” Xiaosu Jing’s “COVID 19 CT Images,” Yixu Liu’s “Women for Sale 2022,” and Wenxin Fu’s “Wenxin Fu.” In Wenxin Fu’s screendance “In Between,” two dancers cradle the ice within their bodies and engage with one another. This work integrates the philosophical symbolism of “water” in Chinese culture to delve into the interconnectedness, anguish, and conciliation inherent in human emotions. These overseas Chinese artists showcased a variety of styles and techniques, adding color and excitement to the entire Expo.
In the auction segment, Yuan Zhuang’s work “Huntington Dream” was sold for HKD 35,000, and Xiaosu Jing’s “COVID 19 CT Images” was successfully auctioned for HKD 11,000, demonstrating their unique artistic styles and market value.
As the cultural and creative industries continue to develop and expand, the Hong Kong Cultural Expo has become an important platform connecting cultures from around the world. Through such events, not only is the exchange and cooperation of cultural arts promoted, but new vitality and momentum are also injected into the cultural industry of Hong Kong and surrounding regions. On this vibrant platform of cultural exchange, artists and creators from around the world can communicate and explore the future development directions of cultural creativity, contributing their strengths to the flourishing development of the cultural industry. With the successful hosting of the Expo, the Hong Kong cultural community is full of expectations for the future of the art field.
