No matter where you are or what your 4th of July might look like, there are always ways to incorporate new activities into your holiday. Summertime allows people to have more availability in their schedule, so why not take up a new craft and get ready to celebrate? Whether you have kids or want to add something special and homemade to your party, crafting offers many ways to celebrate your independence.
We all know the traditional way of celebrating the holiday: grilling hot dogs, swimming, going to a festival and watching fireworks, but what if you want to spice things up this year? Research shows that traditions provide stability, a sense of belonging, and bond families together. Crafting can help you create new traditions while still making memories with family and friends.
Crafting is a great way to get everyone involved. The 4th of July is typically celebrated outside because it’s summer, so one great idea is to make a red, white and blue picnic blanket. You can use this for so many different things, like watching fireworks at night, a place to sit at the lake or beach and eating at a cookout with your family. It might seem small, but little things can bring people together. Even if you have never quilted, this could be fun to learn with the people closest to you. You could even start a tradition of crafting a quilt each 4th of July with your kids and have the tradition passed down through generations.
Not only does this craft show your patriotism, you get to spend quality time with your family and create unbreakable bonds while doing so. Activities like this hold a lot of meaning for people, so why not give it a try? You have all the resources you need to get started right at your fingertips.
“Gen Z can tap into whatever creative side they want. Social media has become such a huge part of our lives that they have the upper hand when starting something new. Whether that’s quilting, crocheting or knitting, they can get started immediately because they have all the resources they need to learn right at their fingertips,” says Corey Pearson, VP of Customer Success at Linda’s.
If quilting is not your thing, fashion is. Instead of purchasing and spending hundreds of dollars on a new patriotic outfit, try making your own. Sewing and upcycling clothes is another great activity that gets you into the spirit and allows your personal touch to shine. You can use many designs and materials to create the perfect outfit; you must let inspiration strike at the right time. This could be a great craft with your friends, especially if you are all spending the holiday together. You can have matching or themed shirts and accessories to elevate your day. Being crafty is different for everyone, but these are just a few ways to live out Independence Day truly.
Holidays are meant to give you time to celebrate with the people you love. No matter what you end up doing, you have the chance to make each one special and create lifelong memories. Maybe this year, crafting with your loved ones will bring joy and laughter and spark a new tradition that will be passed down through generations. There is no better time to start than the present.
