Travis Hearn’s story begins in the humble state of Arizona. Being born out of his mother’s relationship when she was 16, Travis grew up raised almost exclusively by his mother.
Growing up playing and excelling at all sports he could get his hands on, Travis quickly became known as a fun-loving kid who enjoyed nothing more than to show his prowess in sports as a regular all-star of the teams he played for. As his mother got more into religion, Travis took notice at a younger age, but never questioned it, or even had religion pushed on him in any way.
After the completion of his high school basketball season as a senior at the age of 17, Travis’ coach announced to him that he did very well in the selections for the state college team and so invited him to celebrate his accomplishments. When leaving his celebratory activities, Travis happened to be driving under the influence and then pulled over and arrested very shortly after. “I was 30 minutes still from where I lived and it happened to be a police officer who knew me. He did the right thing, he did all the sobriety tests, I obviously was clearly intoxicated. He arrested me, put me in the back of a police car.” Travis describes it.
Travis knew what he had done was irrevocably immoral and was not proud at all of his own life so far and the past decisions he had made. Upon being picked up from jail by his mother in the middle of the night in a different city, Travis had time to understand that if he doesn’t live his life for some other purpose, he will continue to be in similar situations for the rest of his life while it slowly but slowly destroys him and those that care about him.
Travis’s solution to living a meaningless, selfish life was to completely give his life to God and Christianity. Ever since making that decision. Travis Hearn has stayed entirely away from drugs and sources of destructive, short-lived gratification, and has since gone on to lead his own large church in Scottsdale, Arizona, and become team chaplain for several high-caliber sports teams such as the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, and possibly most importantly, garnered leagues of respect from communities across the country as a pertinent mentor and role model for aspiring youths who are looking for a backbone to support them in their journey’s through life as they live it.
