For example, if the hips lack internal rotation and the thoracic spine does not have enough rotation, the lumbar spine, which is meant to remain stable, may compensate by taking over the movement. This could potentially lead to injury, as the lumbar spine is primarily designed for flexion and extension, not rotation. Overcompensating in this way may strain the spine and lead to facet or disc injuries.
