Meet Molly Day: The Inclusive, Body Neutral, and Self-Esteem Focused Fitness Instructor and Mental Health Advocate

The world of fitness is not always an inclusive and safe space; Molly Day is turning that on its head.

Molly is an AFAA-certified fitness instructor and Mental Health Advocate who firmly believes in inclusivity, body neutrality, and building self-esteem above all else. Molly aims to create a safe environment for every individual, regardless of their fitness level, and to flip the script on how the industry profits off people’s vulnerabilities. In this article, we will dive deeper into Molly Day’s pillars of belief as a coach and how her approach differs from the traditional fitness industry.

Inclusivity is at the core of Molly’s belief system. She believes that fitness is for everyone and understands that everyone’s fitness journey is different. Unfortunately, many fitness spaces alienate people who can’t do specific exercises or don’t fit into the industry’s ideals. However, Molly focuses on bringing back the joy of movement and allowing people to appreciate the feeling of being alive. She creates a safe place for people to enjoy moving their bodies. Moreover, she provides tools to make each class accessible to people, including offering modifications to exercises, reminding them that taking a modification is setting a boundary, and encouraging them to honor their bodies’ internal cues and rest when needed.

Body neutrality is another pillar of Molly’s belief system. She understands that fitness and body positivity are not one-size-fits-all. As someone who has had different body shapes and sizes throughout her career, she knows that all body shapes are acceptable and worthy of love. You must respect your body even when you can’t love it. Molly believes in body neutrality, prioritizing what your body is capable of rather than focusing on loving your looks. Her classes are a safe space where you won’t hear her preach, “love yourself or your body.” Instead, she encourages people to focus on their feelings, not appearance.

Finally, building self-esteem, above all else, is crucial for Molly. She believes in the power of habits and showing up for oneself. Molly’s classes embrace vulnerability and acknowledge all the intrusive thoughts that can come up during a fitness class, such as, “I am not good enough” or “this is too hard/not for me, “Instead, she coaches people to push themselves by genuinely knowing themselves and to give their 100% effort regardless of what percentage they’re feeling on a particular day. Molly’s classes reassure people that every effort is something to be proud of regardless of the result or goal. Her approach to fitness is to be consistent rather than goal-oriented and to teach people that physical fitness starts with emotional wellness.

Molly Day has a wealth of experience. She was a founder trainer for EQX+ (Equinox’s initial digital platform), teaching Cardio Dance, Cardio Sculpt, and HIIT classes. She was one of the first three instructors who carried out the concept through testing, production, and global rollout to members. In addition, the team filmed both on-demand content and live classes during the peak of the pandemic. This endeavor taught Molly so much, but most importantly, the significance of making movement accessible to everyone.

She was one of the six founding trainers and was awarded the “Instructor of the Year 2022” in the first year for being the most popular instructor. To stay up to date on where Molly ends up next, follow her on socials by searching “Move With Molly.”

She is a Certified Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA), Certified Functional Stretch Coach (CFSC), Pre and Post-Natal Certified (Pro-Natal Fitness), and is currently pursuing a Behavior Change Specialist certificate (NASM).

Molly is a fitness instructor who has a unique approach to fitness. Her focus is on creating a safe space for anyone, regardless of their fitness level, to enjoy moving their bodies and building self-esteem. By promoting inclusivity, body neutrality, and building self-esteem, Molly is challenging the traditional approach to fitness and providing a much-needed space in the industry. If you’re someone who has felt excluded from the world of fitness, then Molly Day’s classes might just be what you’re looking for.
