Established in 1987, The New York Women’s Foundation has advanced a robust philanthropic strategy rooted in gender, racial, and economic justice, placing us among the largest women-led grantmaking organizations in the world.

Among the first to practice trust-based philanthropy that many have now embraced, the New York Women’s Foundation takes its role in sincerely influencing the future of philanthropy. Challenging the traditional top-down philanthropic approach, they engage on day one and invest in emerging women-led strategies. Early investment sets the stage for community leaders to flourish. Bringing them to the decision-making table builds agency while ensuring funds are for their ideal use. By breaking down barriers and facilitating conversations at the deepest level, The Foundation goes beyond the grant to enable continued support and sustain progress. Since its inception, the New York Women’s Foundation has made grants of over $130,000,000.
