Tanika Craig-Speaks Teaching the Principles of Resilience to Set the Next Generation on the Path to Success

When one gets knocked down in life, the encouraging response is to get back up and give it another go; however, most find it particularly difficult to get back on their feet, while very few people manage to retry. In a world where most people prefer to go and try something new while others would instead give up completely, Tanika Craig-Speaks is inspiring an entire generation never to stop trying, no matter the cost. She is an example of resilience, having been born in an underserved area of Baltimore, Maryland, to a fifteen-year-old mother and having experienced domestic violence as a child.

Tanika Craig-Speaks is a transformational speaker, resilience coach, and strategy expert. For more than 20 years, she has devoted a great deal of her work to helping individuals manifest the life they desire through actionable strategies. Dr. Resilience, as she is fondly called, Tanika is the Founder of LIFEshift Group, LLC, a program that provides a non-judgmental environment for youth and young adults to be engaged and supported to overcome challenges transitioning into young adulthood while meeting their academic, professional, and personal goals.

Lifeshift Group LLC is the go-to program for anyone having a hard time getting back up after getting knocked down. And through an “every-individual matters” mantra, the program uses a combination of services based on five main points: academic success, financial literacy, healthy relationships, mental health, and spiritual accountability.

Lifeshift Group LLC provides the following services to its growing clientele: onsite and virtual assessments, 24-hour emergency support, social support network (peer-peer accountability), group coaching, 1:1 coaching, parent support Group, academic scholarships, mental health resources, and college preparation.

According to Tanika, her most significant achievement to date has been to help thousands of people find themselves, discover, and find strength resilience in unfortunate circumstances. Tanika’s decision to start Lifeshift as an outreach program was informed by her experiences in life which have seen her overcome some pretty serious situations right from the time she was younger. And thanks to the successful career she has built for herself, Tanika decided to lead other young people with her experience and help them succeed. She described her ingenuity as identifying generational roadblocks, poor mindset, and limiting beliefs, and changing them to the “can do” mindset.

Tanika is a result-oriented coach who has served in executive roles in several institutions, such as Executive Strategist for Johns Hopkins, George Washington, and Walden Universities. Most recently, she served as the Deputy Director of Communication in the Office of the Comptroller at Baltimore City. Tanika earned her MBA degree, specializing in Social Entrepreneurship, from the University of Baltimore. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.

Tanika targets every individual who needs to discover themselves and set them on a path to achieving greatness. Still, extra attention is dedicated to young adults, especially those at the stage of transitioning from high school to college. Tanika observes that this period is usually the most challenging for any young person because this is the stage where the lack of experience and confidence to make the transition successfully comes to play.

“Parenting adolescents is complex. And it can be particularly challenging for parents of children at risk for making bad decisions,” she added.

In five years, Tanika hopes that Lifeshift would have experienced a tremendous shift to expand to six Centers across the US and ready-to-go mobile coaching services. In addition, she said, “My proven Resilience curriculum will be taught as a learning module in middle and high schools.”
