Being excellent in a field is often a result of years of hard work, practice and preparation. These are factors that have played significant roles in the success of the sports media platform YSM Sports Media, which has enjoyed astronomical growth since it began operations four years ago.
Founded by Philadelphia native Jamil Parker, YSM has grown to become the next big thing in the world of sports media and news reporting. The company’s name was suggested by Parker’s sister Jasmine Whaley, which is a homage to his friends growing up. “Young Stud Movement is what we called ourselves, it seems silly now that we are all in our late 30s, but at the time, if you let us tell it, we were on top of the world,” said Parker.
Parker’s introduction into the world of sports journalism came from a year-long internship at Intuboxing.com. He was recruited and mentored by UK Correspondent Paul Humphreys and then CEO John Edmans. His first assignment was to cover Sergey Kovalev vs. Eleider Alvarez on August 4th, 2018, in Atlantic City. Midway through his stint at Intu, Parker decided that he would start to transition into starting his own company. “I’ve always had an Entrepreneurial mindset which was instilled in me by my parents.”
YSM Sports Media published its first content on March 28th, 2019 and became a registered corporation on July 15th, 2020. It rode on Jamil Parker’s experience in the industry as a one-time correspondent for Fighthype.com. The company has had notable talents since its inception, such as Jasmine Whaley, Brandon Walker, Jonathan Cruz and Tory Smith. Trainer Dawud Bey was instrumental in giving YSM Sports Media and Jamil Parker a strong presence in Philadelphia’s boxing scene, and with Jamil’s past experience, YSM Sports Media is one of the top reporters of boxing events.
Operating on the mantra, “We Know Sports,” YSM Sports Media covers a wide range of sporting events and sheds the spotlight on notable sports personalities. The company covers boxing events at all levels ranging from grassroots to championship, and has interviewed notable personalities like Andre Ward, Bob Arum, Eddie Hearn, Jaron Ennis, Max Kellerman, Terence Crawford, Teofimo Lopez, Deontay Wilder, Caleb Plant, Claressa Shields, Greg Hackett, Oregon guard Tyrone Williams, NY Jets Safety Will Parks and Dr. Boyce Watkins.
With a staff strength of professionals in the sports coverage industry, YSM Sports Media has gained recognition, with many people trusting its reports and accounts of events. It has also forged partnerships with brands like NBA Shop, NFL Shop, Paramount+ and American Provenance.
The goal for the next few years is to continue providing unbiased sports coverage and breaking into the international news reporting niche. Having become an independent sports reporting media company, the dream has become bigger at YSM, and Jamil Parker is excited about taking over the whole of Philadelphia and beyond.
