A master of the mind and a performer with an almost otherworldly ability to predict thoughts, Jackson Ridd has elevated the art of mentalism to new heights. While magicians are quite popular today on social media, few actually showcase their skills in front of a live audience. With a commanding stage presence, a deep understanding of human behavior, and a flair for the dramatic, Ridd takes his one-man show to lounges and theaters across the United States.
Born with an innate curiosity about how people think and behave, Ridd’s early fascination with psychology and magic grew into a passion for mentalism. This performance art blends suggestion, misdirection, and psychological insight. “I never got that cliche magic kit when I was a kid. I was introduced to the world of magic with psychological tricks like pendulums, divination rituals, and other ways of connecting with my subconscious. My dad used to play a game where we’d try to guess each other’s thoughts. No trick, just pure mental connection. My unique upbringing influences my work and the tricks I perform. I want my audience to feel how I felt- this world is made of magic, where anything is possible.” Unlike traditional magicians who focus on sleight of hand, Ridd’s acts center on the mind, making his feats feel entertaining and more personal.
While Jackson Ridd never claims to possess supernatural powers, his performances often leave audiences questioning reality. His ability to seemingly predict random thoughts and guess whose items belong makes his shows blend entertainment and psychological intrigue. Ridd often emphasizes the scientific nature behind his tricks, focusing on the power of suggestion, observation, and the subconscious mind. One of Ridd’s signature routines involves audience participation, asking volunteers to think of a word, number, or memory. He reveals exactly what they were thinking with subtle hints, leaving spectators in disbelief. These acts of “mind reading” rely on a combination of reading microexpressions, vocal tones, and behavioral cues that most people are unaware of displaying.
“My goal is to make everything I do feel as real and authentic as possible. There isn’t a single thing I do where I am not telling the truth. I might not tell you everything, but I certainly won’t lie to you. My goal is to transform the real world into a more magical one. I want my audience to question reality. If I do my job right, you won’t be questioning how I did the trick, and you’ll be seeing the world through a new perspective.” For Ridd, mentalism is not just about entertainment- it’s about fostering curiosity and encouraging people to think more deeply about the power of their own minds. During one of his TED talks, Ridd spoke about the idea behind gift wrapping. “When wrapping a gift, we also give the person the element of surprise, which is a gift in itself.” Jackson emphasizes the importance of awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, and biases. He believes that understanding how the mind works can help people become more mindful in their daily lives, whether making decisions, interacting with others, or reflecting on their beliefs.
Today, Jackson Ridd continues to evolve as a performer, constantly pushing the boundaries of mentalism, experimenting with new techniques and expanding his repertoire to include digital platforms and interactive performances. His ability to adapt and innovate in an ever-changing entertainment landscape gives him an advantage as a performer. Those who already follow Jackson’s projects can expect to see him on Season 11 of “Masters of Illusion” on the CW channel.
