There are plenty of people who thrive on nostalgia, repeating vintage music and believing that they were born in the wrong generation. Nihal Yohan Andrews, best known for his stage name Neezy, is among the next wave of artists who grew up exposed to bands like Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire, influencing his style to become one of the most versatile artists in the industry today.
Neezy is an R&B and soul singer, songwriter who hails from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. For as long as he can remember, Neezy has always immersed himself in music. At the age of four, he started playing the piano and later took formal lessons. By twelve years old, Neezy had finished and completed level 5 of musicianship from the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London, England.
During high school, Neezy actively pursued his passion, joining the Cedar Cliff High School jazz band under the direction of the renowned Eric Graybill, allowing him to participate in some of the most iconic jazz festivals and opening for jazz moguls like Ahmad Jamal and Rick Hirsch. At the time, Neezy primarily played the bass. Although he loved the instrument, the musician found his niche in the music industry as a singer and songwriter. The artist collaborated with his high school best friend, Alex Lants, to write and produce their debut single, “So Bad.” The song proved to be a wake-up call as it garnered over 150,000 streams on all platforms.
Since then, the rising artist has gotten busy with his career, going on tours and producing one hit after another. While he has been busy with his music career, Neezy also launched a clothing line which can me found on Instagram under the handle @officialteamneezymerch
He recently put out a remake of the band New Edition’s 1988 hit that attracted the attention of ABC News reporter Amy Kehm. She forwarded his video to the station, inviting him to perform live on television for 20 million viewers. The invitation proved to be a game-changer as Neezy’s social media presence skyrocketed, pushing him to the forefront of the R&B scene in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The exposure led to his music career and clothing line reaching new heights.
As an artist, Neezy strives to create a sound that appeals to all age groups. “My music appeals to the teenagers that are going out to have a good night,” he explained, “But my music also appeals to the 62-year-old grandma who is on her evening stroll just trying to enjoy the summer breeze of Boca Raton, Florida.” And while his music has earned praises, Neezy’s magnetic personality helps establish his brand. Whereas other artists forget their roots and early fans, the artist takes time to personally converse with his fans and get to know them on Instagram.
With his career sailing in the direction he always wanted, Neezy is enthusiastic about his future. “I want to be on the road permanently, touring and playing at least 160 dates a year,” the artist revealed. He strives to use his music to change people’s perspectives as Neezy believes that it is an artist’s responsibility to encourage people and help them get through their hardships and trials.
