The ability to speak publicly and engage in constructive dialogue has always been considered a valuable skill and a key to opening doors in our lives. People who possess the art of oratory have always been and will continue to be in demand by society. They stand out among others and easily find employment. Moreover, good orators often become successful leaders, businessmen, politicians, journalists, teachers, television and radio presenters, where knowledge of rhetoric plays a significant role. Our guest, theater actress, acting coach, and speech technique instructor Patimat Kibedova, knows firsthand how to master the art of oratory.

Patimat, why did you choose the profession of an actress?

I was raised by my mother. She is a very creative, versatile, and well-read person. My mother has her own photo studio in Bukhara. She also paints pictures, which she successfully sells in Uzbekistan and Russia. All of this influenced my career choice.

Where did you study acting?

After graduating from the Jewish school in Bukhara, at the age of 14, I entered the College of Variety and Circus Arts in Tashkent. While studying there, I also took acting classes at the Ilkhom Theater. In 2016, I got accepted into the Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS) on the acting faculty, where the competition is about 500 people per spot. While studying at the institute, I participated in various competitions of stage movement and recitation. I traveled to other countries to exchange experiences with students from Theater Institutes in Ukraine, Belarus, and India. In Riga, I participated in the “Stanislavsky.Lv” festival. I was a scholarship recipient of the Union of Theatrical Artists of Russia award.

Let me tell you about my professional activities.

During my final years at the Institute, I started teaching acting skills and public speaking techniques. After graduating from GITIS, I worked at one of the most prestigious theaters in Moscow, the Taganka Theater. It was on this legendary stage that I made my debut in the play “The Cherry Orchard” by A.P. Chekhov, playing the lead role of Anya.

I am currently living in New York. What do you do for a living? What kind of work are you involved in?

Here I have a large circle of acquaintances in the film and theater industry, and I continue to improve in my profession. I was invited as a jury member to the Follow Your Heart film festival.

My experience in acting and speech techniques has allowed me to start working on my own startup in the field of public speaking, which I plan to launch in the United States very soon.

What would you recommend to our readers who want to learn the art of public speaking?

I would recommend them to pay attention to several key principles of rhetoric from the famous public speaking expert Dale Carnegie, who said:

  1. Begin every speech with a strong desire to achieve your goal.
  2. Always prepare for your presentations.
  3. Display confidence, even if you don’t feel confident.
  4. Practice as often as possible.

Additionally, I invite everyone who strives to become more confident and successful in their lives to join my online school, SpeakWellPro, which will soon commence its operations.
