Sharing a similar pain influenced the decision of husband-wife duo Chris and Arielle Ricci to establish Nellamoon. They both lost their mothers to cancer and jointly decided to create something to pay tribute to how the women lived their lives with kindness, love and grace. This birthed Nellamoon, which has grown to become one the largest and most in-demand small business candle companies in the United States. Although the company operates from Nashville, Chris and Arielle have New York roots and have drawn countless inspirations and influences from their New York experiences.
With Chris’s birthplace being Long Island, and Arielle’s former workplace being Ralph Lauren in New York, the couple does not shy away from the possibilities of establishing their business presence in New York.
In their words, “New York is a place we love dearly! It’s incredibly vibrant and inspirational. The diverse culture in New York is something that inspired us early on in our lives. We love how it’s a melting pot of people from all around the world, and every time we visit, we leave feeling rejuvenated and inspired. The energy of New York is contagious, and energy is something we try to infuse into our candles every single day!”
Nellamoon prides itself on creating candles that are more than the average candle. The candles are formulated using natural soy wax and feature a scent throw that customers have lauded and given rave reviews about. The candles also make for excellent home décor. Chris and Arielle set out to create a company committed to doing some good in the world and to produce a clean, all-natural candle.
“We are a lifestyle candle company using business to help the world, which is something very special and unique to us. My husband and I both lost our mothers to cancer, and they lived a life of service to others, so we promised to honor them by using this business to help others shine and live their best lives,” Arielle tells us exclusively.
The couple’s plan for Nellamoon is to open more retail stores and franchise the business to have stores all over the United States. The brand is also working on a co-branded candle for a popular sports brand in New York, which is still under wraps for now. It also launched two new scents recently called Blue Lagoon and Tulum. Nellamoon draws a great deal of brand inspiration from New York, and its new plans and product lines reflect that much.
Chris and Arielle’s plan is to create more products for the brand and expand the brand’s impact worldwide. With the brand’s recent retail store opening in Nolensville, TN and the upcoming opening in Florida, Nellamoon has shown that it is ready for a takeover. Even though the company operated as an e-commerce company for the first five years, the opening of its brick and mortar stores shows a commitment to building the brand into an established brand with a presence all over the country.
