Marina Piano Studio brings professionalism and 30 years of experience to a fun learning environment

Music has been central to piano teacher Marina Abrahamyan her entire life. The Brooklyn resident was raised in Yerevan, Armenia, where she learned to play the piano at a young age. Her talents caught the attention of the Komitas State Conservatory, Armenia’s most prestigious music school.

She studied music there, earning her Ph.D. in performing arts. She worked as a pianist while carrying on the tradition of her classical training by working as a professional piano teacher at a Yerevan music school. She put in two decades of training budding pianists of all ages and skill levels– many went on to be just like her studying in top conservatories around the world.

“I’ve been at it since I was four years old. Because I was born into a family of musicians, my mother was my first teacher and I’ve been playing ever since. My family sent me to a special music school because they believed in me.”

Abrahamyan had great relations with her job and pupils but decided it was time for a bigger challenge. She took her dream overseas and emigrated to the USA, settling in Brooklyn. As if that wasn’t a bold enough move, she opened her own piano school for the first time after years of teaching private lessons and working for other schools.

Marina Piano Studio was born in 2019 out of a love of teaching music to younger generations. Abrahamyan has already earned the distinction of a Steinway & Sons-verified piano teacher.

“I always wanted to have my own school where there’d be a totally different environment from other places– more friendly and positive. Well, I did it! We currently work with kids from three years old and up, adults, and children with special needs.”

Why Marina Studio?

In just three years of operation, Marina Studio has helped countless young pianists hone their skills to develop a higher degree of confidence in their abilities.

The studio’s story, however, goes far beyond the past three years. Abrahamyan has over thirty years of successful piano teaching experience and a Ph.D. in performing arts under her belt. Her background provides her with a unique skill set that few New York-based pianists have: she’s well-versed in techniques and methodologies from North American and European schools.

Her lessons aren’t just some temporary hobby– her lessons have instilled confidence and a love for playing music in her students, and hundreds of them have stuck with it and pursued careers in piano.

At Marina Studio, positivity is key. They strive to create an environment that nurtures and shapes students and fosters within them the courage to achieve their personal goals.

For some, that goal is simply to improve their piano skills. For others, it translates to competitions, auditions, and admission into prestigious music schools. Marina Studio is here to prepare students for this too.

Hundreds of her students have placed in festivals and competitions around the world. Others have been accepted to the academies of their dreams, such as the Mark Twain IS 239 for the Gifted and Talented, as well as Brooklyn’s Bay Academy.

“I’ve had lots of kids go on to achieve a big success in music. It brings me a lot of joy to see them reach their goals. A lot of my former students have opened their music studios back in my native Armenia, which is also wonderful.”

Learning at Marina Studio will impart a deeper understanding and passion for music, no matter how far students go in their music education.

Marina Abrahamyan is a pianist and piano teacher with over 30 years of experience and a Ph.D. in performing arts.
