From using his musical talents in church, the artist is now ready to conquer a bigger stage, beginning with his new single entitled “Tonight” featuring LA artist Kalan.FrFr, which is the lead single from upcoming album God’s Timing. JAYCENTH is an upcoming artist from Cerritos, California. He was born in a family that took on an active role in their local church. After deciding to pursue a full-time career as an artist, he chose to be known by Jayo Cortez. The artist went on to explain that the name Jayo Cortez represented his younger self. But as he developed his sound and had a deeper understanding of his character and personality, he changed his moniker to JAYCENTH.
“My former artist name was Jayo Cortez but I recently changed my name,” the artist said. “Jayo Cortez represented the younger me. I was still developing my sound and finding myself at that stage. JAYCENTH represents the best version of me. I’m more mature, more confident, and my sound is more refined.”
JAYCENTH started rapping at the early age of five. But it wasn’t until he stopped playing basketball in his senior year that he began to take music seriously. Because of his upbringing, the artist showcases the impact the church has on him through his songs. In a lot of his masterpieces, audiences can hear him talking about God and how blessed his life has been as a Christian. Additionally, JAYCENTH also creates versatile sounds, from R&B to hip-hop, stating that he is second to none when it comes to rapping.
“JAYCENTH represents the best version of me. I’m more mature, more confident, and my sound is more refined,” said the artist. “After doing some research, I came across the twelve precious stones in the Bible, and one of the stones’ names was ‘jacinth,’ which is a reddish-orange gem. My favorite color is red, and I look at myself as a hidden gem, so I felt like this name better represents who I am today. It feels perfect for me,” he explained further.
“For me, music is everything. It’s comforting, it’s therapeutic, it makes me feel good,” said Jaycenth. In the same way music has impacted his life, the artist also aims to spread the joy he found in his art by creating songs that match every mood. “That’s what’s so great about it. There’s music out there for everybody to enjoy. I find joy in knowing that listeners enjoy the music I provide,” the artist added.
JAYCENTH is inspired by some of the biggest names in the music industry. Kendrick, Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay-Z, Pharrell, Stevie Wonder, and Nipsey, to name a few. Listening to such iconic artists makes him want to create a lasting legacy. He aims to produce an album like Thriller that has stood the test of time. The artist also envisions building his company, Label G.I.A.N.T.S. Records to provide opportunities for other aspiring artists.
