Cinematographer Andre Szankowski Telling Stories through Moving and Still Images

Making memories and creating stories are two things that make the world what it is, and these will be impossible without people who document the world and its beautiful elements. Cinematographer André Szankowski is known for his stunning images, brilliant visual storytelling and bringing directors’ visions to life, and he wants to spread his tentacles to every part of the world, showcasing his abilities and talent.

André Szankowski is a professional cinematographer putting his name on the map with his outstanding personal projects, commissioned projects and featured projects. As a person committed to the art world, he sees every new project as a challenge, whether it’s a movie, series, music video or commercial. His intense preparation, research, hard work, consultations and open-mindedness set him apart in the business. He also brings a high level of authenticity, originality and honesty to the table, as he believes those are the best qualities every artist needs to deliver.

The impressive catalog that André Szankowski has made him stand out in the cinematography world, and he has been recognized by some of the biggest platforms in the film industry. He has worked with global streaming giant Netflix on their first two productions in Portugal and was nominated for an Oscar for cinematography prediction with Raul Ruiz’s Mysteries of Lisbon. He also belongs to AFC, French Society of Cinematographers, which is by invitation only and represents some of the world’s best cinematographers. In addition, he is a member of AIP, The Portuguese Society of Cinematographers.

The São Paulo, Brazil-born director of photography has worked on over 300 advertising projects since 1998 with directors like Algusto Fraga, João Nuno Pinto, Diamantino Ferreira, Miguel Gaudencio and many others. He also has many feature films,  TV films, TV series, and short films to his name. Some brands he has worked with include Toyota, Mercedes, Nike, Super Bock, Vodafone, MTV, Galp, Nestle, Ikea, etc. 

André Szankowski has cited his precise focus on the art and the craft as the reason for his success and growth over the years. “My job is to understand the director’s vision on how to tell the story, and I work with those alongside artistic choices and technical innovations. A lot goes into telling stories, but I make sure to deliver the best using my natural intuition and abilities behind the camera,” he explained. He consults with more experienced cinematographers to gain insights on how best to approach complex projects and produce the best pictures regardless of the challenges faced.

Without allowing anything to get in his way, while André Szankowski has built quite a name for himself in the Portuguese film industry, his goal is to achieve global recognition. In the next few years, he hopes to be a regular cinematographer working with big-name film giants like Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Apple TV and many more. “There are so many possibilities that I’m open to as a creative person. I see myself making Hollywood feature films and working with global film studios. I am confident in my talent, and I strive to get better every day to tell amazing stories to entertain, inspire, educate and give hope to the world.
