Amrit Kohli’s Bold New Album ‘Crucify Me’ Set to Challenge and Inspire

Amrit Kohli, a queer African American artist is set to release his highly anticipated album, “Crucify Me.” Known for his evocative and thought-provoking music, Kohli’s latest work dives deep into themes of self-discovery, societal critique, and personal empowerment, challenging conventional beliefs and narratives with each track.

The track, “Crucify Me,” is a bold reimagining of Jesus Christ’s perspective. In this song, Jesus questions the motives of those who betrayed him and addresses the myth that he is humanity’s savior. Instead, Kohli’s Jesus asserts, “I don’t need nobody to save me; and I really don’t want to be saving you; all I really want to know is that my reason to live is bigger than you.” This powerful message highlights a central theme in Kohli’s music and personal philosophy: the belief that individuals must save themselves.

In “Angels,” Kohli reclaims the narrative of Jesus from what he views as the distortions of Christianity. Describing himself as an Angel and a Lion, he emphasizes his mission to guide and lead humanity with love. The song critiques the depiction of Jesus’ crucifixion as a symbol of salvation, instead portraying it as a human atrocity.

“Gandhi’s Arms” presents a scathing critique of the “War on Terror,” equating war with terror itself. Through the refrain “war is terror and terror is war,” Kohli highlights the destructive cycle driven by fear. The song serves as a call to recognize and dismantle this cycle, urging listeners to reconsider the true nature of conflict and fear.

Kohli’s exploration of personal themes continues in “Beauty is…,” a song about dispelling myths of beauty and learning to embrace one’s true self. Similarly, “Chasing Rainbows” addresses the pain of unrequited love, inspired by Kohli’s own experiences in college. Both tracks delve into the complexities of human emotions and relationships, providing a heartfelt and relatable narrative.

“Love & Liberty” and “Travelin’ Man” delve into the complexities of relationships and the immigrant experience in America. “Travelin’ Man” is particularly poignant, narrating Kohli’s journey as a refugee from Kenya and his struggle to find freedom in the so-called “land of the free.” The song indicts America for failing to live up to its promises of freedom and equality, reflecting Kohli’s personal experiences of oppression.

In “Untitled,” Kohli reflects on his family and the contradictions of the American Dream. The song is both a tribute to his heritage and a critique of the broken promises made to immigrants. “Another Boy” addresses the harsh realities faced by queer youth disowned by their families, drawing from Kohli’s own painful experiences. Both songs serve as powerful calls for social justice and recognition of marginalized voices.

“Shine-Beauty” encourages listeners to embrace their inner beauty, while “Another Boy” is a heartfelt ode to those abandoned due to their sexual orientation. These tracks underscore Kohli’s commitment to empowering marginalized communities and promoting self-acceptance and resilience.

Amrit Kohli’s “Crucify Me” is more than just an album; it’s a manifesto for change, urging listeners to challenge societal norms and find strength within themselves. As the release date approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a groundbreaking contribution to music and social commentary.
