Experiencing both failure and triumph in life is inevitable. One gains strength and prowess when one conquers adversity. This attitude is applicable to everyone in the world, regardless of their culture, race, religion, nation, or age group. Life is never a bed of roses; instead, it’s a rocky road littered with obstacles that we must all overcome. Kimberly Samuel is one such figure; she overcame adversity to become a strong, confident and accomplished young black woman who is an inspiration to her peers.
Kimberly Samuel, born on the island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, is currently serving in the United States Army as a private first class. Only at the age of 20 years, she is also a published author. Kimberly was forced to relocate to the United States when she was just six years old due to her mother’s passing away from breast cancer. She endured the trials of life for a significant amount of time, during which she moved from state to state until finally deciding to make her home in Virginia. She struggled to keep up with her schoolwork and frequently reported feeling far behind her classmates. Because of how her community treated her, she didn’t feel like she was included in the festivities, even though she was expected to enjoy herself as a young girl. She merely had the impression that she was not welcomed.
As she entered her adolescent years, Kimberly began uncovering new facets of her personality and also started gaining an understanding of the distinctions between her needs and her wants at this time. At the age of 18, she ventured out into the adult world and began searching for work to satisfy her requirements. Kimberly had a hard time keeping up with her bills and expenses since she was always changing jobs in an attempt to find financial stability. Kimberly became the strong, self-sufficient, and independent black woman she is now as a result of the challenges she overcame in her past. She says, “You need to be self-reliant and accept that any hardship you meet is only going to be there for a short while. You will get more powerful and capable as you overcome obstacles.”
Kimberly has the potential to be tremendously effective in creating immensely respectable author footprints. Whatever the situation, she always has a master plan. Kimberly thinks that how you choose to react to your failures will define you.
