In 2022, Sofiia May began a journey that was not wanderlust but survival and new beginnings. Leaving behind her hometown of Sumy, Ukraine, amid a turbulent time, Sofiia found herself in the United States, navigating a new life far from everything she once knew. What started as a search for connection and belonging has transformed into a thriving women’s community, offering hope and support to Ukrainian immigrant women across the U.S.

“I always dreamed of traveling and experiencing different parts of the world,” Sofiia shares. “But my biggest test began when I left Ukraine, not for adventure but for a new life.” Like many displaced Ukrainian women, Sofiia faced the challenges of loneliness, depression, and the overwhelming desire to reconnect with those who understood her experience. This deep need for community inspired Sofiia to create a space where women like her could find solace, strength, and friendship.

Building a Lifeline: The Creation of a Women’s Community

Sofiia’s women’s community is designed for Ukrainian women who, like her, found themselves in the U.S. after leaving everything behind. It’s a space for healing, support, and new beginnings. Through various events such as photo parties, workshops, and networking sessions, the community offers new friendships and a renewed sense of strength and purpose.

“Our community has become a place where women find not just new friends but the support they need to feel strong again,” Sofiia says. The mission behind the community is simple: to provide a space for women to connect, share their experiences, and rebuild their lives together. The most celebrated events are the girls’ tours, where members embark on group travels that foster genuine connections and create lifelong memories.

“These tours are the heart of our community. We travel together, create new memories, and find true friends,” Sofiia explains. “Each trip is designed to give the girls incredible experiences and emotions, and they return home feeling recharged and ready to take on life.”

Friendship and Strength: Real Stories of Transformation

The true success of Sofiia’s community lies in the people who participate. The connections formed at each event are powerful, sometimes even life-changing. Sofiia recalls one woman’s story in particular: “She had been seeing a therapist for over a year because of immigrant depression, but none of the methods helped her. It wasn’t until after one of our tours that she felt the depression finally lifted. She found new friends, new meaning, and, most importantly, herself.”

Stories like this one serve as a constant reminder of why Sofiia started this community. “It wasn’t just for me,” she reflects, “but for all the women facing the same challenges. Every new tour and meeting reminds me of my mission: to unite and uplift Ukrainian women navigating their way in this new reality.”

The community has increased, and Sofiia is constantly moved by the messages of appreciation she receives from members. “Girls tell me that our meetings helped them feel alive again, brought them out of depression, and made them realize they’re not alone in their experiences,” she says.

Facing Challenges and Looking Ahead

Organizing tours and events is no small feat, and Sofiia has faced her share of challenges. From unexpected storms to canceled flights, each trip presents its hurdles. But Sofiia takes it all in stride, always finding solutions and ensuring every participant has an unforgettable experience.

“I love to give care and make every trip special,” Sofiia says. “I think through everything down to the smallest detail. Whether it’s reminders of what to pack or choosing the best accommodations—luxury villas or 5-star hotels—my goal is always to provide the best experience possible.”

But it’s not just about logistics. Sofiia adds her personal touch to each tour, with adventures that range from jeep or convertible rides to curated retreats with experts. And, of course, every trip comes with opportunities to capture these moments through stunning social media-worthy photos with professional photographers. “I put all my strength and heart into every tour,” she says. “I create each one as if I were planning it for myself and my family. That’s my ‘chip’—making every detail count.”

 The Future of the Community

Looking forward, Sofiia has big plans for her community. She aims to expand, bringing in more women and creating even more bright, unforgettable moments. Her goal is to reach as many Ukrainian women as possible, offering them the chance to find their place in the world and reminding them that they are not alone.

“My mission is to unite even more Ukrainian women and help them find their place in this big world,” Sofiia says. “Together, we can show that even in the face of adversity, there is strength in community and connection.”

Sofiia May’s journey from Sumy to the United States may have begun with uncertainty, but today, she has built a thriving network that brings hope and friendship to women who need it most. Through her dedication and passion, Sofiia is helping others rebuild their lives and creating a lasting legacy of resilience, unity, and empowerment.
