Jurell Sison combines his passion for his faith with his marketing experience in a unique approach to marketing. His fusion of marketing experience and theological insight sets him apart from the competition and helps businesses engage more meaningfully with their audiences. Yes, he creates marketing campaigns, but he is also a full-time Catholic teacher and Campus Minister. By merging theological insights with sales tactics, Jurell fosters an environment where commerce and ministry coexist, enhancing brand loyalty and consumer trust. His unique methods challenge conventional marketing practices and pave the way for a new method where values-driven marketing leads to sustainable business growth and societal impact.
Taking Faith and Creativity to the Next Level:
Jurell’s journey began with loving care from his Filipino American family, where his grandmother, Lola, instilled in him the Catholic faith and a passion for drawing and painting. This early influence sparked his creative talent and prepared him for the future. His drawing, painting, and, later, videography honed his artistic skills and connected his spirituality to his creative expression.
When Jurell facilitated retreats and worship nights, he discovered he had a knack for storytelling through videography. Their entrepreneurial spirit led him to the wedding videography industry, where he quickly established himself by creating emotionally compelling videos. His early successes in capturing life’s most significant moments demonstrated his ability to blend visual storytelling with emotional depth, appealing to a wide range of high-profile clients.
An Encounter of Pivotal Importance:
Jurell’s career turned around in 2016 when he met Cleveland portrait photographer James Douglas. Jurell reached out with a humble offer to clean floors in exchange for mentorship. As a gesture of humility, Jurell offered to organize files, clean floors, and even clean the toilets. In the email, Jurell wrote, “I could work for free. It would be worthwhile for me to spend time with you in the studio and to watch and learn.” He expressed that his most significant setback was “not having a community of creatives to look up to” as he sought ways to push his creativity.
Jurell opened up a universe of opportunities by taking risks and being persistent. James’ teaching helped Jurell refine his skills and technique, eventually paving the way for his career in marketing. His bold move was motivated by the realization that creativity is fostered by community and mentorship. Jurell refined his skills under James’s guidance and also had the opportunity to work with several high-profile personalities, including Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Kelce, Jake Paul, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and numerous schools, churches, and nonprofits.
Innovative Marketing Philosophy:
Jurell’s marketing philosophy is deeply rooted in solving real-world problems and pains, not by selling but by sharing the ways lives have been impacted, remedied, or healed. He leverages his understanding of human desire, psychology and spirituality to craft campaigns that resonate more deeply with consumers. With achievements like his TEDx Talk, “Want To Be Happy? Big Mistake (Joy, On the Other Hand ),” which received over 100,000 views, his work is characterized by an empathetic approach. Jurell continues to inspire individuals and businesses to discover their purpose and contribute positively to society. His new book, “Theology of Marketing: Cultivating Healing in a Suffering World,” will further establish his thought leadership at the intersection of marketing and spirituality.
From Belief Systems to Brand Loyalty:
Jurell’s goal is to inspire people and businesses to become the best versions of themselves and use this self-awareness to create positive change in the world. According to him, solving people’s problems is the only thing that can capture people’s attention and make your organization relevant. He continues, “If your organization isn’t succeeding, you have to ask, ‘Are we even listening to our people?'”
