Rocco’s Jewelry Industry Success Was Largely Due to the CEO’s Mindset

When starting a business for the first time, it’s normal to feel confused and disheartened. While you’re busy trying to raise money for product development and distribution, you’ll watch as other business owners achieve their dreams and goals. But once you put yourself in the right mental state, you’ll start making progress. The founder of Rocco’s Jewelry, Rocco DiBenedetto, was once in this position.

Rocco’s determination played a significant role in his success as a sole proprietor. It was a little unnerving for him at first when customers weren’t exactly lining up outside his office. No one was there to direct his actions for him. That meant he had to rely on his internal drives, self-control, and persistence. 

To be successful, Rocco had to stay on track and keep coming up with new ways to attract customers. The process taught him the importance of a good budget and being patient with setbacks, his staff, and potential customers. 

Traditionally, jewelry stores have been passed down through families. Rocco was an outlier because he wasn’t raised in a family of jewelers. However, he luckily stumbled into the industry, fell in love with it, and courageously established a business. Everything he knows about the jewelry business, he learned on his own.

The goal of establishing Rocco’s Jewelry is to leave a legacy for future generations. Rocco was eager to put in some time at the office, but only if what he was doing truly excited him. Simply put, he wanted to be remembered for his efforts because “if I’m going to bust my ass, it’s going to be for something that I can hopefully be remembered for.” 

While working in a pawn shop selling jewelry, he discovered selling jewelry was his true calling. His regular jewelry buyers were mostly friends or relatives who usually bought something for a special occasion. The positive responses from these buyers gave Rocco a sense of accomplishment. Having the opportunity to sell someone something that would become an indispensable part of their lives was something he didn’t want to stop doing.

Rocco’s first, unguided steps into business were hard, but he kept going even though the odds were against him. He became a better businessman due to everything he went through, the good and the ugly. However, the robbery in August was the hardest thing he’s had to deal with since opening Rocco’s Jewelry. 

It was devastating for Rocco as he suffered from the loss of irreplaceable goods and the departure of workers who were frightened by what happened. In light of this unfortunate event, Rocco has tightened security at his store and among his employees.

In the jewelry industry, Rocco’s Jewelry separates itself from the competition by giving special attention to each and every one of its clients. The business is an example of transparency and honesty in an industry full of shady jewelers. Rocco and his team work tirelessly to negotiate for a fair price without compromising the quality of their jewelry. 

Rocco warns that businesses in his sector are known for preying on customers’ lack of knowledge. He said, “not many people have my dedication to assisting each client in finding the most beneficial action for their unique financial and life circumstances. If a consumer makes a purchase that they later come to regret, they are not likely to come back.”

Rocco is working hard at improving the business’s online store to expand its customer base beyond the United States. Furthermore, he is currently working on several high-profile design projects and collaborations with celebrities.
