Nariman Jumayev: A Decade of Excellence in Gas Production

A Decade of Leadership in Gas Production

With over a decade at China National Petroleum Corporation International (CNPC), Nariman Jumayev has solidified his reputation as an expert in gas production operations. His technical expertise, leadership, and dedication to innovation have significantly influenced the efficiency and safety of Turkmenistan’s natural gas infrastructure. In this exclusive conversation with New York Weekly, Nariman shares his professional journey, milestones, and future aspirations in the energy sector.

NYW: Nariman, you’ve built an impressive career at CNPC over the past decade. Can you walk us through your key responsibilities in gas production operations?

Nariman Jumayev: Thank you. My role at CNPC International Turkmenistan was multifaceted and spanned critical areas of operations. I began as a compressor station operator at the Gas Compression Station (DCS), where I managed natural gas transportation parameters using advanced systems like SCADA.

My responsibilities included regulating gas flow rates, pressures, and temperatures while ensuring the stability of five Gas Pumping Units (GPAs). This involved routine maintenance, identifying and fixing leaks, and managing engine replacements to avoid downtime. Later, at the Gas Separation Plant (GSP-Bereketli), my focus expanded to optimizing well performance, conducting technical repairs, and ensuring the integrity of equipment across the facility.

NYW: You mentioned significant maintenance projects. Can you elaborate on some of the major initiatives you’ve led?

Nariman Jumayev: Certainly. Over the years, I’ve spearheaded several large-scale maintenance and upgrade projects. For instance:

– Under the supervision of SOLAR representatives, I successfully oversaw the replacement of compressor engines on major units, including GPA No. 3 and GPA No. 5.

– I conducted intermediate shaft repairs and filter-separator replacements to maintain gas quality and system reliability.

– I led preventive maintenance initiatives, such as cleaning, lubrication, and servicing of gas cooling systems and auxiliary installations.

In emergency scenarios, I took proactive measures to identify and resolve gas and oil leaks, minimizing risks and preventing production disruptions. These experiences sharpened my problem-solving abilities and leadership skills.

NYW: Your contributions have earned you prestigious awards, such as the “Certificate of Honor” and “Best Employee Award.” What do these achievements signify to you?

Nariman Jumayev: These awards represent pivotal moments in my career. The Certificate of Honor, which I received in 2021, recognized my dedication during extreme winter conditions. Despite the challenges, my team and I ensured production targets were met without compromising safety.

The Best Employee Award was especially meaningful because it acknowledged my efforts to optimize production processes, enhance equipment performance, and uphold operational excellence. While these awards are personal milestones, they’re also a testament to the collective effort and collaboration of my team.

NYW: How has your work influenced Turkmenistan’s energy sector?

Nariman Jumayev: My contributions have focused on improving the efficiency, safety, and reliability of gas production operations in Turkmenistan. By implementing proactive maintenance measures and swiftly addressing equipment issues, we minimized system downtime and maximized output.

Additionally, I’ve prioritized training team members and promoting technical safety standards. This has fostered a culture of accountability and performance at CNPC. My experience with SCADA systems and advanced gas infrastructure also enabled me to bring innovation into daily operations.

NYW: Beyond technical expertise, how do you stay committed to professional growth in such a demanding industry?

Nariman Jumayev: Continuous learning is critical in the energy sector. In 2017, I completed a 16-hour training program in entrepreneurship, which enhanced my leadership and strategic planning skills. I’ve also worked on improving my English proficiency to prepare for international collaborations.

I actively participate in safety drills and technical workshops to stay abreast of industry best practices. Learning from both local and international experts has been instrumental in refining my technical and leadership capabilities.

NYW: Looking ahead, what is your vision for contributing to the global energy sector?

Nariman Jumayev: My decade of experience has prepared me to contribute to global energy projects that emphasize efficiency, safety, and sustainability. I’m particularly interested in roles that focus on operations management, safety consulting, or equipment optimization.

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, and I see opportunities to address challenges such as system downtime, emissions control, and workforce training. My goal is to collaborate with global leaders and share my expertise to drive meaningful advancements in the field.

NYW: Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring professionals in gas production and industrial operations?

Nariman Jumayev: Master the fundamentals, pay close attention to detail, and never stop learning. This industry demands precision, teamwork, and a commitment to safety. Be proactive, take ownership of challenges, and seize opportunities for growth—both technically and professionally.
