On July 24th, National Tequila Day, Andy Glass, an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, designated Meximodo as the bar/restaurant featuring the most tequila and mezcals available anywhere in the world. The restaurant earned the title with an official count of 1033 hand-selected bottles available.
Outdoing the Competition
There are well over one million bars in the world today, but only one of them could have the most tequila options in the world. One might assume that such a selection is just thrown together, but that couldn’t be further from the truth; rather than simple accumulation, the list of tequilas and mezcals at Meximodo results from attentive curation efforts designed for the sole benefit of guests. Chef Antonio Carballo, from Puerto Vallarta, brought his team to Mexico to experience tequila’s origins and learn about their source more closely.
How the List Came to Be
The team observed artisans and cultivators touring local cities and villages to taste the fruits of their labor. Rare and authentic tastes gave them new insight into the selection, which might be possible for their list back at the restaurant, just thirty minutes from New York City. Working with Le Malt Group, the parent company of Meximodo, the team undertook intensive research to curate their selection based on Le Malt’s 25 years of established relationships in the business.
Meximodo came to organize a genuine library with more than a thousand bottles available to frequent guests and newcomers alike. The tequilas and mezcals are organized in one list according to tasting notes, brand, region, and a few other factors, enhanced by the team’s impressive individual knowledge of Mexican spirits. As they grew toward this point, the Meximodo team realized that they had something special on their hands.
A Realization of Record Potential
“As we built our tequila and mezcal list for Meximodo,” says the owner of Meximodo’s parent company, Le Malt Hospitality Group, States Saurabh Abrol, “and saw the number of bottles increasing exponentially, we realized that we had the potential for a world record, and we submitted an Official Attempt to verify what we knew in our hearts.”
Based on the size and quality of their list alone, Meximodo submitted their official entry into the running for the Guinness World Records title for the most tequilas and mezcals at a single licensed enterprise upon opening.
Mackenzie Berry of Guinness World Records had this to say about Meximodo: “Our research found several global contenders for this title, but Meximodo proved with absolute certainty that they have the most tequilas and mezcals at a bar-restaurant in the world, and we’re pleased that our official judge confirmed this record and was able to award the certificate on National Tequila Day.”
Meximodo’s Impressive Achievement
The award prompted a 1,000 agaves party and has made Meximodo commit to continuing to offer this list well into the future. To date, their establishment has garnered numerous spirited reviews for the quality of its tequila selection and the excellent taste of its authentic regional Mexican Cuisine. Backed by the Guinness World Records achievement, Meximodo is eager to live up to its well-earned reputation.
