Julie Lokun,CEO of The Mediacasters, an omni-media public relations company is changing the look of media relations in corporate America. Lokun and her partner, Jessica Dalby, are tackling underserved niches in corporate communications, like mental health, diversity and inclusion, artificial intelligence, and automations to build a 3-dimensional approach to brand power, reach and recognition.

“Audiences are getting extremely exhausted of scrolling through social media and online and seeing a polished and perfected brand,” Lokun states, “Audiences, which convert to potential clients and customers want to be reflected in the media they consume-this is why we are making a marked shift to create powerful alliances that support mental, physical and cultural diversity”.

For example, The Mediacasters Publishing arm is partnering with Detective Chris Anderson, the star of the hit television series Reasonable Doubt and mental health advocate and top ranking podcast host Kevin Donaldson on a collaborative book called, Man You Are Crazy. This book depicts the shame of mental health challenges first responders face after experiencing traumatic conflicts and injury.

This approach to destigmitization and the subsequent promotions and events following are a catalyst for a larger media campaign. Mental health PR is a specific area of public relations that focuses on raising awareness and understanding of mental health issues, as well as reducing the stigma associated with mental illness. Some specific tactics used in mental health PR include:

  1. Developing and promoting mental health awareness campaigns through traditional and social media.
  2. Partnering with mental health organizations, advocacy groups, and influencers to amplify messages and reach wider audiences.
  3. Creating and distributing educational materials, such as fact sheets, brochures, and infographics, to help people understand mental health conditions and available resources.
  4. Using storytelling to humanize mental health issues and personalize the experience of living with a mental illness.
  5. Advocating for policy changes that promote mental health and access to mental health services.
  6. Using data and research to support messaging and provide evidence-based information about mental health.
  7. Creating a safe space to discuss mental health in the workplace and promoting mental health wellness in the workplace.
  8. Using digital and social media platforms to provide information, support, and resources to individuals and families affected by mental health issues.

“As a proud Latina woman, who has been proactive in her mental health, I see a visceral need to elevate the voices and stories of our corporate clients,”Dalby states,” The Mediacasters is strategically aligning with influential names and periodicals to attach media coverage to those in need-this is the future of public relations as we see it”.

The Mediacasters continue to assist underserved entrepreneurs and are paving the way for up and coming talent. To learn more about Julie, Jessica and The Mediacasters check out:
